" even cardiff are putting out a second team in the fa cup..the old lady is turning into a glorified its a knock-out"

fair point i guess, for those who love the FA cup, a second string side is a poor site.

The FA CUP has died, the sooner everyone accepts that the better. The FA value 4th in the prem a greater achievement hence no champions league spot for cup.

So the competition has a real prize to entice prem clubs to value it more

Its not the FA's decision - UEFA control the Champions League places.

They only control how many places the FA have, not how they are distibuted.

why should you get a champions league spot for finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the league?

Lets go back to the old days.

Only champions play in the champions league. - call it the European Cup.
Cup Winners Cup for Cup winners in each country
UEFA Cup for teams winning League Cup and finishing 2nd and 3rd in th erespetive leagues.

All knockouts, home and away game.

Far more interesting and representative of teams levels.

Abso-fucking-bastard-lutely

The Champions league itself is a joke, Look at Liverpool... they won it a few years
ago after finishing 4th in the Premiership the season before. So THAT Competition
is devalued. Just by having them 'mini-leagues' its devalued a classic old Tournament

The old Cup-Winners Cup was a prestigious trophy to win, gone forever.

Then the UEFA Cup for the teams finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th... another good tournament.

Its all about money money money now.

There were times when the very thought of missing the FA Cup final would never even
enter into my head. Nowadays i couldnt give a f**k

the champions league is a far better competition now than in the 80's when liverpool were walking it

by giving 2nd 3rd and 4th in the league a place in the champions league, you are rewarding the best teams in the country a place in the elite competition, if not, then teams like Portsmouth and Millwall would have been playing champions league football in the last ten years

its elitest, but the right thing to do.

Doesnt stop the FA cup being the best cup competition in the world, watched the world over and the envy of many leagues whos cup competitions dont get the same sort of buzz.

Take off the romance glasses pal, the cup died years ago. Nowhere near what it was

The FA Cup died when they started playing league games on the same day as the final. It's a shame that a competition that once meant so much to us as a club is now at the back of our minds. Honestly I think this year we have the excusr that promotion is vital to the future of our club, I can certainly see Tan cutting his losses and leaving if we don't go up, but most years I want us to take it seriously. Hopefully next season, promoted or not, we'll have a real go at it.

So because you dont value it anymore everyone should accept its died

Nonsense, anyone watching the West Ham v Man U game on Saturday night I assume would disagree.

Great cup tie, and if Man U had bigger fish to fry and the cup was dead then they could have fooled me.

Its not about the fans valuing it, the clubs dont and neither do the football authorities.

The FA have devalued the FA cup due to the "success" and financial inequality of the FA premier league. Getting there or staying in is so important clubs will do anything to achieve FA premier league status.

We are looking back through rose tinted glasses when it nearly meant more than Div 1 winners. When the FA decided to form a breakaway division of the nations elite clubs to maximise revenue at the expense of the minnows, they started the ball rolling of devaluing the FA cup.

We are doing the only sensible thing, any other club in our position will do the same.

I am an old romantic dreamer, when Macessfield drew us in the FA Cup the fans thought it would be great, they would be playing a team clear at the top of the championship, they would be able to see Bellamy, Marshall et all, play football against their team, but no, they played and I say not even a 2nd string team, and I agree with Danny Baker, the romance of the cup is gone, and somehow needs reinventing, I am gutted that we lost, but glad that they beat us, with the help of the ref

Man U?!?!

I dont think so. Played their reserve full backs and thats about it. Brought RVP off the bench. Players and management going beserk at the end. Didnt look like they thought the cup was of no value.

Swansea  Those giants with huge cup tradition . They only rested a couple anyway and their main man played nearly 40 mins.

Man City, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton tonight all got their strongest teams out, most against lower league oppisition.

Thats the top 6 all going for cup glory.

Cup is dead? My arse.
