Hmmm, although I feel that diving is no doubt becoming a 'skill' within football, it is difficult to argue that it isn't cheating.

With reference to the OED, to 'cheat', one must 'act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage'; notably in a competitive environment or examination.

Note the use of 'dishonestly'. There is little doubt that diving is an act of dishonesty, as the player is, in essence, lying to the officials in order to 'gain an advantage'. They have not been fouled, yet act as if they have been in order to gain this aforementioned advantage.

Thus, I do agree that a successful dive is a 'skill' in itself and, as a fan, I would not complain if my team won a game through these means. However, is it cheating? Yes, by very definition.

This guy is a pure 100% pleb. Diving is the worst thing in football. It needs to be sorted with a straight red. If you want to dive go to the swimming pool.

Diving, shirt pulling, the way players talk to refs and the scrums at corners are all making the game go backwards fast.
