T-Mobile: robbing cunts!!!

Sun Jan 06, 2013 4:24 pm

Just contacted them to let them know that I will be using my phone aboard for a few days. They wanted me to pay a so-called deposit of £250 yet they won't give it back to me directly or onto a future bill until up to 6 months time!!!!!

Call me a cynic but mobile phone companies were told not so long ago that they had to drop their charges for calls when aboard yet they seem toget around this by asking for crazy so-called deposits!!!

I wish I could keep my phone at home but its a business phone and I will be working whilst away so they got me by the balls!!!

What they said is that they wanted to protect myself just encase I build up a huge bill. My response is 'I can understand that so could you then transfer the money which you will be holding against the first bill upon my return'. Then she said 'Oh no we cant do that because the policy says that we can hold it on your account until 6 months after your return'.

Well I know plenty of people who have business phones as well as abroad phones. All you do is tell the people you do business with that you are going abroad. You then give them your abroad phone number to contact you. If the cost is of that importance to you then you wouldn't mind investing time into carrying all of this out.

Order a PAYG sim card off a company in the country you are going to they are normally free and speak english top it up ,then divert all calls to that number . (ie - movistar in spain which is there vodaphone)
Or turn your data roaming off before you get there and save on internet usage which normally costs a fortune you should be fine ..

Re: T-Mobile: robbing cunts!!!

Sun Jan 06, 2013 5:04 pm

Switch off your data roaming , use text messaging and keep calls to minimum that's the only thing you can do otherwise they'll rob you blind I'm afraid

That £250 deposit will be because of your credit rating. They wanted me to pay it when I
first went out to Saudi, i told them to f**k right off. But 6 months later they said my rating
had improved and I got the roaming for free

The manager than mentioned this. Its funny they can mention a so-called credit rating but the company has been running for 7 months and even through all bills have been paid they were saying that those bill payments wouldn't have gone through the credit system yet so they wouldn't be recorded even through I was happy to present the supporting paperwork.

I've paid for it now because aI felt that they've put me in a position where I couldn't see any other way. They even put more pressure on me that had to pay for it now because it takes a period of hours for it to be set-up.

Do you have an iPhone? If so, download an app called 'sip gate'. Free to sign up and you can choise a uk landline number. While abroad and in a wifi area people can call your landline sip gate number (local rate call charge) and if you want to make calls from abroad you can load your number with a small amount (ie. £5-£10) and make calls from abroad at UK local rate landline charges!

Bargain!

Can't you buy a PAYG sim, and before you swap sims ,set up the contract number to call forwarding to the PAYG number or on your voice mail, change the message people hear with the PAYG number, fudge paying 250 and what ever charges you'll get from using the phone abroad

I had a nightmare with T Mobile last year when trying to upgrade. I had upgraded to a new handset on their full monty plan that includes unlimited data. Apparently when they upgraded my plan they hadn't included any data usage so even replying to one email was charged. In a matter of days, unknowingly I had racked up a £300 bill. They kept cutting my phone off every night because of the amount I owed. Two weeks of phoning every morning to get my phone reconnected and they were still reluctant to take the usage of the bill.

Horrendous customer support and services.

You obviously don't run a business then? You can loose thousands changing your contact number.

Of course you can but it also entirely depends on the industry you are in. If you have a few clients you routinely work for then its easier to let them know of your new number and keep them in the loop. If you prepare properly for your trip abroad then its very easy - loads even use divert to avoid the ridiculous charges by phone companies.

My mate's father uses divert and gets all his calls sent through to Skype when he's abroad and uses that as a landline as he has a house over in Spain.

There's loads of ways to avoid the stupid charges that companies impose and if you leave it to the last minute then you only have yourself to blame for loss of business for being unorganised.

Yes you are correct but the guy who started this thread cannot change his number down to the business he is in. That is why he has started this thread. I know all about using diverts with running businesses as I use myself but I also know that changing your number can loose you thousands, then again "entirely depends on the industry you are in".
