Am i the only one who thinks Malky did the right thing?

Sun Jan 06, 2013 12:32 pm

He gave the Development squad a chance yesturday and they we're 5 minutes from succeeding.Yes its disapointing to lose any game but you only have to look at last year as to why malky didn't want to risk playing the first team.Last year within our cup run we seen a drastic drop in form which looked to have lost us the chance of automatic promotion.I for one in may if we're celebrating promotion won't be thinking back to the 5th of january and I'm sure 100% of fans won't be either. There is so much at stake to reach the premiership this year with the money going up which is so important to the clubs finances to finally try and get rid of this debt thats been hanging over us for nearly 10 years! lets be realistic people are saying that ahhh i hate modern football etc but i'm almost certain that 20/30 years ago if they had the size squads that clubs in this day and age do now that they would have done exactly the same.

Good! :ayatollah: People forget that the pitch would have been very heavy yesturday! we have had a lot of injurys within our squad,I even seen some people say Mutch and Smith should have played ! Mutch only just coming back from a long lay off and Tommy smith not even back yet why risk them getting injured on that pitch! We've had some good cup runs over the past few years lets not be greedy and let someone else have their day because I'm sure we'll have ours in May :ayatollah:

Nope - I 100% agree. We also now only have 3 more games in January which should help refresh the players.

Nope -mickey mouse cup that could've distracted from our overall goal.

The proof is in the pudding, we've never strenghtened in January and its cost us dear, we've heard (again) all the right noises about spending and improving in January, and only lately some views from MM sort of playing its importence down.

Leicester were quick off the mark, where were we in trying to sign what is probably the Championships best striker?

Let's see what happens but i'm not holding my breath - again!

To me Leicester signing wood so quick Smacks of panic buy because theyre not doing as well as they would have hoped!Yes he has done well at Millwall but time will tell if he's a success at leciester. We tryed to get players in last january and we we're unlucky.Malkys signings have got us into this position the size of the squad last year cost us and us having to play so many games in the cup! I'm conifdent we'll get players in and just because of one bad cup defeat (which wasn't even our first team) everyone seems to panic!

The sooner we were out the better. Those pitches are terrible and it only takes one wrong turn or knock and you got a player out for the season. Look at Maynard, on a lovely pitch, slight knock and hes out for the season. Our side does not have the depth many think it does. We have used McNaughton and Nugent this season in the league and used them yesterday also.

Glad we can now concentrate our efforts on the league, but to call the FA Cup a Mickey Mouse competition is wrong.

Malky was right, however I still think he thought we'd win. It's the players that should be concerned for their futures.

reading lost at home to stevenage last year
southampton lost at home to millwall last year
norwich lost at home to leyton orient the year before
qpr lost in the 3rd round the year before
also lost to port vale at home in the league cup in the 1st round

09/10 newcastle were out of both cups before the end of january

08/09 wolves lost to rotherham in the league cup first round and were out of the fa cup before the end of january

08/09 birmingham were knocked out in the 3rd round of both cups

this clearly shows that the teams looking to win the championship have otehr priorities

Cardiffs best run of form last season was when we were on a long carling cup run. City suffered no major injury probs during this period.

However, after getting beat by liverpool in the final citys form plummeted.

City could only muster 13 points out of a possible 39 after wembley when no cup football was being played. This was easily our worst period of bad form throughout the season.

Personally I want to win every game, and I would have preferred a few more regular players in the team who are returning from injury like Mutch, Tommy Smith, and I would have put Gestede in, to mix with the youngsters. I agree that players like whitts, bellamy, noone, Hudson, Turner, Taylor and Marshall should have been rested.

I don't agree with all this "let's concentrate on promotion" nonsense, and "the FA Cup is a distraction", I would have liked a cup run to give our fringe players more game time.
