Every now and then the cups throw up a surprise result, that's why we love the cup competitions isn't it? Like when you beat Leeds? Or we knocked West Ham out?
For those who can remember, how good was it to draw a decent team in the cup when we were both languishing in the lower leagues? It was something to look forward to, the chance that we might just pull off that shock result, the chance that we might be the ones on Match of the Day that night...
And yet I'm posting this before I head off to the Liberty to watch us play Arsenal, 10 years ago, the place would be buzzing about a match like this, instead, it's comments like "we'll probably rest players for the Chelsea match!"... What?
Sorry, off on a tangent there, but just remember, that result at Shrewsbury didn't do much harm in the long run, it just meant that Rodgers had a better idea of which players he could rely on. For me, I can look back on beating West Ham, or drawing with Liverpool at the Vetch, you lot can look back at the times like the Leeds match and others, remember those days? Because that's exactly how Macclesfield probably feel right now.
