I've got a North Face jacket and it's the best jacket I've ever bought!

Berghaus are class as well, but I expect you to pay a pretty penny more for it! :ayatollah:

They are ok , depends what you want to do with it. They are a bit too common now ( dare I say chavy?) Berghaus is a good brand also ( a bit to common as well) . I do a lot of hill walking and hiking and prefer Arcteryx jackets . They do cost a lot more but the quality and build are far superior . It's no coincidence that they are the preferred brand for North Pole explorers and mountain climbing and alpine skiers .
Again it depends on what you want from it ? Fashion , waterproof, windproof . If you want warmth don't forget down jackets are ideal but crap in the rain !
A bit of research may be required first. Up and under in canton Cardiff are authorised stockists of arcteryx and are all outdoor pursuits enthusiasts and not just shop assistants .
Good luck

Mine comes with a fleece as well, so that when it's too warm, I just separate it from the outer goretex jacket, which is a simple task! :ayatollah:

To be fair most jackets have the fleece attached I never use it prefere it seperate .The berghaus I have has never let me down been in some mad weather and in mad places never let me down .

Range starts at around £70 in the right places all makes mentioned here are good never tested the other makes though

Ha ha , sorry ;) it's just Everyman and his dog has north face now ( my own opinion of course) and I've found a lot of old biddies wearing Berghaus ! But everybody's tastes are different :)
As I said I prefer arcteryx . Excellent build, no frills and a lifetime guarantee :)
They are a Canadian company with a customer service second to none.
Agree about super dry though ;) ha ha

I used to be an expedition leader in the Army and used a lot of Berghaus kit over the years, but found them expensive!

I only use my North Face jacket for going to away games in the main and find it superb value for money!

If my expedition days weren't so far behind me, I'd consider your recommendation!

Just checked the prices of some of those Arcteryx jackets and I can see why you get a lifetime guarantee!  :ayatollah:

Re: the north face - cotswold

Sun Jan 06, 2013 2:44 am

Ha , fair point. The prices of the arcteryx will fall in the top end of the scale ( way above north face and Berghaus ) so you'd really need to use them a lot to get your money's worth.
Good luck whatever you decide to have. So long as your warm and dry you'll enjoy watching the bluebirds protected from the elements ;)

I've got a north face polartec fleece. Wear it In work to keep me warm. It's great!

I also have a hoody. More of a casual/fashion think though.

Both north face and berghaus are top jackets , bought a north face around 7 years ago. Paid about 160 but from practical sense it was the best jacket I ever bought . Had a snow lining and very warm so used to wear it up the beacons in winter and to the footy. Also had a few lighter weight berghaus and found them very good value for money . From a Casual scene perspective personally rate the outdoor gear . So jackets like those mentioned or Patagonia if you have a bit more cash look the business with a decent set of trainers . Also think you tend to get better value for money with the outdoor gear .

The old berghaus rg1 insulated parkas were the dogs bollocks, kept you warm and dry yet you didn't cook when the weather warmed up because they were breathable, four big pockets on the front and two zip side pockets, one of the best coats I ever owned, sadly they changed the design and stopped selling them I believe. A big shout for Peter Storm jackets too, they are quality and were popular with football lads back in the eighties and are still going strong today.
