owning part of a football club

Sun Jan 06, 2013 12:35 am

me and a few mates all been talking about saving aside around £200 a month each if we can. and after about 2/3 years time, using it to buy into a some non league team. always loved to own part of a club.

anyone know of any teams without any big clubs in their area (so if they do well, crowds will go up) arguably cardiff are the best because its got all south wales to choose from execpt cewnty and scum.

Have you thought about the long run? Alot of these teams are losing money. You would have to be putting in a lot of money if you want anything out of it otherwise your throwing a few grand down the toilet. Would be a great idea though

the good thing about it is, if we put in e.g £1k. we wouldnt have to put in anymore if we didnt want to. we'd just be on the board. the owner would still be the owner.

Yeah thats true but you would need to convince someone on the board to sell their shares

What was the club who did that with everyone buying a share then picking transfer targets and making decisions by vote?
Don't think it lasted long? Played in yellow maybe?

What I would say is if you are thinking of investing in a football club keep well away from a club which has a strong Supporters Trust FFS!!! The Merthyr project give Annis,Daya and myself bloody nightmare with their demands

No because they wanted to take our money and also spend our money yet not give us anything in return. Just a bunch of individuals who want to own a football club yet using other peoples money whether through donation or some out of community funding to run it. Mark my words keep well away especially if you are contacting clubs already and not even looked into this issue because I would guess that if one of them comes back to you who is trust run then you would be completely throwing your money down the pan and getting f**k all for it.

just had an email back from colwyn bay fc. offered me shares a £1 share. so i have enquired how much shares i'd have to buy to get 1% at minimum. because if you own 1% you become part of the board of directors i believe.

I wouldn't want to be the one to disclose the figures without their consent but I think Wrexham are now a trust owned club so that is what I was trying to discribe to you because you get nothing back whatsoever.

£1 per share!!!!! f*cking hell I'm sure someone stated on here that City are around 64p per share!!!!

if youre genuine about it how about looking at a more local club that you can get more involved in and more of a return (not necessarily financially but emotionally) and try and get them up towards the WPL like a strong developing welsh league side?

@angryman - your response tells me it was serious money, if thats the case, whereever your working any chance of a job mate. and when was city's shares at 60 odd p

@jooshey - i like the idea mate, but tbh my local is either afan lido or port talbot and i dont really care about their results or anything, have no emotionall connection.

Try Monmouth Town...

or Barry if you have a degree in psychology to deal with the owner.

I bought £1000 worth of shares in Cardiff City a few years back. Since the re-brand I don't want anything more to do with the Club so you can buy them off me if you like. I got in touch with Alan Whiteley and tried to shift them through him but nothing came of it. Drop me a line if you're interested.

I was under the impression that when you're a director of a club, if the club goes tits up financially, then it's the directors who have the ownus to bail the club out? Know a guy here who's pumped thousands into the Cobblers for little or no reward.
My advice would be to steer well clear unless u are a very rich man.
