Last seasons cup run etc.

Does anybody really believe it had an effect on the league or was it just the case that ultimately we weren't good enough?

The team that beat Blackburn & drew with Liverpool was the same team that dropped points to shite throughout the season. I for one can't buy that the cup run was a distraction etc. Not adding to the squad at the trun of the year again was the main reason we faltered in my book and hopefully we've learned from that.

Losing today is obviously a disappointment. A cup run is always nice and the extra revenue comes in handy along with the odd glamour tie. Today's team proved that they aren't quite upto it yet. To slate some of these boys on the back of 1 showing is bang out of order though. One game doesn't make a career and for many of us it was probably the first time we had seen any of them play. Some of them looked rusty and others a bit off the pace. You cannot judge them on the back of one game though.

Players are often bled into the first team one or two at a time, these boys have had little more than a handful of games together and half this forum wants them freed or shot by Monday. Maybe Etien & Harris will prove not to be worth the fees shelled out but maybe if they are blended in properly they will but like I say, they cannot be judged on one performance.

There will be no cup run now, so lets get over it and get back to normal vs Ipswich?

Of the three clubs promoted last year, the Champions Reading went out in the third round to Srevenage, West Ham also went out in round 3 and Southampton in round 4

Here's a few more. Over the last 5 years only 3 of the 15 clubs that went up got to the 5th round. Only one were able to do both when WBA made the semi final and were champions. 12 clubs out by the 4th round.

2011-12 Reading (Champions) & West Ham (Play-Off) were out in the 3rd round, Southampton (2nd) went out in the 4th round.
2010-11 Norwich (Champions) & QPR (2nd) were out in the 3rd round, Swansea (Play-Off) went out in the 4th round.
2009-10 Blackpool (Play-Off) were out in the 3rd round, Newcastle (Champions) were out in the 4th round and WBA (2nd) were out in the 5th round.
2008-09 Birmingham (2nd) were out in the 3rd round, Wolves (Champions) were out in the 4th round and Burnley (Play-Off) were out in the 5th round.
2007-08 Stoke (2nd) & Hull (Play-Off) were out in the 3rd round and WBA (1st) were out in the Semi-Final.
