http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballna ... z2H3WSXeWZLast season when we met Huddersfield at home in the second round of the Carling Cup, I remember commenting to my friend Annis Abraham at half-time that the last thing we needed was for the game to go to extra-time.
My thinking was we didn’t have a squad big enough to cope with the extra minutes and if we won the game to be playing another competitive fixture.
Annis disagreed with me at the time and reminded me of my comments when we stood and cheered the Bluebirds out at Wembley in the final against Liverpool.
I don’t doubt the buzz every Bluebird experienced when we led against Liverpool at half-time and the ecstasy when big Ben Turner equalised deep into extra-time will always be in the memory.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballna ... z2H3WD4hDYI know a debate has raged in the South Wales Echo, with Bluebird great Nathan Blake saying Malky needs to pick his best team and how he believes a cup run can actually boost City’s promotion dream.

I never want us to lose but I wouldn't be dissappointed if we lose today. This season's all about promotion.

Well I do Carl, from a kid at the age of 7 Ive loved it and it saddens me how its been degraded year after year
I'm still a big romantic

Its funny how us Cardiff City fans still go on and on and on about the 1927 Cup Final and have raised £100,000 for a Fred Keenor statue. We dont go on and on about the old First Division days.
I say we can compete in League and Cup and do the our best in both.

Love us to win tomorrow for the development and fringe player.

One thing that gets to me about the F.A. Cup is when the pundits rattle on about how the big teams have "bigger priorities" or, "the cup isn't what it used to be", bollocks... Aside from your final with Portsmouth, the last time anyone outside of the "big" clubs won it would be Everton in 1995
Other than that it's Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and more recently Man City who have won it over the past 20 years.
Sat Jan 05, 2013 12:28 am
Give it a miss this year but once we are in the premier then we should go for it.
Sat Jan 05, 2013 12:35 am
Totally agree Annis. I love waking up on FA Cup day knowing that we can get to the next round
I hate how it's so devalued now. Although tomorrow I would use a weakened side, buy I'd still include some experienced players to make sure we go through and make at least the 5th round. There is more quality in this year's team that will allow us to shake things up a bit .
I'll be disappointed if we lose tomorrow
Sat Jan 05, 2013 12:35 am
Allways want Cardiff to win, I can understand why Malky is going to pick a so called 2nd team but at the end of the day lets hope they win

Well said

Don't get me wrong I love the FA Cup, I just think it could be a big distraction this year if we do go on a run... I think we should focus on the league and let our reserve players play the cup games.
Sat Jan 05, 2013 12:37 am
The fa cup is a great competition and i honestly think we have a team to go far in this comp this year without taking to many risks and wearing our top playersout to much i would have gone for a team like -
-------------------lewis------------------
connolly------nugent-----turner----john
mason------mcphail-----mutch----kimbo
--------velinkonja--------smith-----------
That team given a decent draw would do well in this competition this year and would keep a few important squad members who are close to the first team sharp . I think malkey has missed an opportunity here with the squad hes chosen but we got to back his decisions theres a reason why he is manager and we aint .

I see nothing wrong with getting the youth involved.. its still taking it serious as the youngsters want to win and prove a point.
I will be dissapointed if we lose as it be great to see the youth players build from a winning experience.
Its going to be a big day for some of them and its not like we go into cup games to lose.

From a fan's point of view FA cup is full of great trips & memories.
I still remember Gloucester away, Enfield away, Peterborough etc...in the cup. They all stand out, above the league games.
That Leeds home game is still one of the most memorable for build up, atmos, etc....

Need city to win

got an accumulator on it
Sat Jan 05, 2013 3:50 am
This FA cup game came at the right time! A good chance for players like Etien Velikonja to show everyone what he can do!
I love Malky but find it strange how Malky had signed this guy for a million or two but not played him yet... What!? Hope he does well tmr
Sat Jan 05, 2013 4:14 am
i wouldn't be too disappointed if we lost today, but at the end of the day our reserve/development squad should be good enough to beat a team at conference level, personally i see it like this, the more fa cup games we get, the more fringe players get game time! come on city!!!
Sat Jan 05, 2013 8:47 am
great opportunity for players like, Mason, McPhail, Mutch, Kim Bo, Gestede, Veli, Ralls, Nugent, Kadeem, Lewis to get some much needed 90 minutes in. Bulid fitness, sharpness and gain match experience in the best cup competition in the world!
Hope we win, and can't understand for the life of me any fan that would actually want us knocked out of the cup!!
The squad is there to be utlilised.....
Sat Jan 05, 2013 8:49 am
I think we could win it this year......I wonder how many would travel to Wembley if we reached the final, or would we hear the same attitude of I'm not really bothered about the FA cup this year.
It's the best cup competition in the whole world imho.
Sat Jan 05, 2013 8:56 am
The way I see it is that it's important for our fringe
players.
Perfect chance for them to shine and lets be honest, a lof of the players that
will feature tomorrow are top players

Annis, lets focus on promotion first and then next season we can focus on the treble. One step at a time mate.

So you'd prefer not to give fringe players and youth a fair chance to have a crack at staking a first team shirt, the FA Cup run (if we can get one going) can only benefit them, as long as Malky continues to give the FA cup to these players.... ?

Stinking attitude from anyone wanting us to get knocked out. Yes, I'm all for resting the majority of the first teamers but with the squad we've assembled our 2nd choice 11 should be good enough to put more than a decent run together unless they come up against a decent Prem side. In my opinion putting a decent run together has way way more benefits than getting knocked out in the 3rd round. Plus the exitment of being in that draw on a Sunday praying for a big game is a gret feeling.

as much as i love the FA cup, and despite the fact i feel we have a good chance to get to wembley again by playing a full team (due to many of the big clubs not taking it very seriously anymore) i would sacrifice another cup run to keep our team fit and push us on to the one thing we all want the most. premier league! however, i do think it would be nice to have a cup run so we can keep playing the likes of nugent, ralls and velikonja just to keep them match fit and get them the experience needed to push into the first team for a permanent place.
im going for 3-1 city velikonja with 2 and mcphail with 1

Don't care what the result is, as long as some of the fringe players impress malky

That's that then for the FAC this season. I don't like losing anything - who does? But this season is all about one thing. Good luck Macc - hope you get the run you want.

Sorry lads I agree the Premiership should be your goal, after all you have been to Wembley and next season it will be different.
