Does anyone still attend Wales games anymore?

I followed them since 2005 but no longer go to games due to the captain being born from England and everything so I am boycotting until the decision is reversed.

Does anyone feel the same way?

I try to avoid the fact if you have relatives born in Wales it allows you to play for Wales.. Im not a massive fan but I always managed to look past that.

But an english born footballer leading out Wales the place I was born is just disgraceful for me.

I wish players would choose the country their born. Even if they can't make the team they should still choose the country of birth instead of an easy opition.

I find it hard to be as enthusiastic with an English captain.

Going to Scotland tho

I went to the last game.

Dont like this bit about if your grand mother etc etc. I'm not too sure about the 6 year residency thing.

Definately not happy about Ashley Williams, he should not be representing Wales.

fair weather Wales fan, me.

I can take it or leave it - and if they don't play home games in Cardiff, I leave it.

Only been to a handful of away games (Germany, Italy, Belgium) and they are excellent trips - if you have ever gone away and seen Wales win, you've done well.

Saying that, these days if you have seen them win at home, you are doing well!

You should read his Premier League Diary from last season and see how much playing for Wales means to him.

If only the majority of Welsh born players were half as passionate.

Irrelevant what he thinks. He shouldn't be playing for Wales.

Considering I'm 16 and parents never go to Football I always wanted to do a Wales trip away and been planning on one for the near future.

I tend to read programmes and just skip the players information because it really annoys me reading the births.

NJ73 I understand where your coming from but at the end of the day players like Giggs were born in Wales and played for Wales it does piss me off how he weren't always keen on getting involved but Ashley Williams and all the rest take the easy opition because they know they wouldn't stand a chance getting into the England squad.

I admire Turner for sticking to his loyaltys and if he makes it or not at the end of the day he was loyal to his country.

I was going to book tickets for Scotland and was buzzing for the game but Williams walking the team out just killed the whole enjoyment of going to watch my country. Didn't even have the nerve to even watch it on the telly.

He's perfectly entitled to play for Wales.

It doesn't bother me to be honest, but I don't follow Wales that much anyway.

Re: Wales

Not going to the games because Williams is captain is just so puerile

Re: Wales

Sat Jan 05, 2013 12:27 am

I go to the odd game. I was going to look past the Williams ordeal for the Scotland game, then I decided the FAW can f**k right off. Some of the worst backroom appointments ever with Coleman and Hartson, shit football being played and on top of that, an Englishmen leading out our country.
Now I'll just be a Wales plastic until it's all sorted, might go to the Croatia game but that's it.

No shit Sherlock. Doesn't make it right though.

Coleman being manager is more of a turnoff for methan any English born captain.

Just wondering if you felt the same way when Vinnie Jones was captain then given the amount of passion he showed..?

No not really. It would go for any other play born in another country leading out Wales.

I feel quite strongly about this and most people can see my point of view.. some agree but continue to back the country but for me its a step to far.

Personally I think it should just go to the parents and not the grandparents but while the grandparent rule is in place and anyone qualifying under that rule is prepared to give 100% for Wales and turn up every game, they have my full backing.

Re: Wales

If I was professional footballer and I was class.. and had the chance to play for Germany I would turn them down and play for Wales if I had the chance. Considering my grandmother was born in Germany.

Re: Wales

Sat Jan 05, 2013 1:18 am

I was born in London as my Parents (Welsh) were living there at the time. I moved to Wales at 5 years old and have lived here ever since, even learning the language when nobody in my family can speak it.

Out of interest, would it be a disgrace if I captained Wales?

You've put me on the spot to be honest :ayatollah:

Why? I'm Welsh

If your Mummy was on holiday in Greece and gave birth to you, then you wouldn't be Greek for god's sake

I would argue that Birthplace is one of the least relevant factors in determing national identity. Your family and where you've lived for most of your life are both far more important.

Scrap the Grandparent rule though :ayatollah:

I didn't want to change my mind on what I've said in this thread but your story behind being born in England ent exactly your fault. I guess the parent rule would be accepted by me. :ayatollah:

I wasn't born when he was..

Looking it Ohhgas view I guess the parents rule would be ideal but scrap the grandparent thing.

Re: Wales

Can't be arsed to answer all posts but my opinion is:

1. You should be allowed to play for the country you were born in.

2. You should be allowed to play for the country your mother and father were born in.

3. Where a parent has no right to reside in the country of their birth then you should have the right to play in any parents rightful resdidency.

Technically you are born under the British flag and not in the actual country

Re: Wales

The main reasons I've stopped watching Wales are ....

Ashley Williams should not be captain is because he should not be playing - not good enough in my opinion, howler after howler ..... whether its in White or Red ......

Coleman also isnt right for the job, he seems hell bent on trying to alienate half the fans by

1. undoing the effort and momentum Speed had Wales playing with
2. playing the Swansea-Cardiff division badly - i.e. williams replacing ramsey as captain - it wasnt broke - so why fix it.
3. Giving Bellamy an ultimatum when Coleman looked for a fight that wasn't really there from Bellers - just was in a bad place at the time (Speed & Family reasons) - a better man manager would have handled that better, got the respect from the players (and Fk knows Coleman needs all the respect he can get - following in the footsteps of Speed)

I know he's not the same as Speed, but the things he's doing to emphasise that to us are the reasons he's failing.

Re: Wales

Sat Jan 05, 2013 10:23 am

Some fans would have a very different view if Ben Turner played for us and was Captain.

I don't agree with it personally but that's my view.
It doesn't put me off watching though....
Coleman wont be in the job that long, our inevitable WC failure
will seal his fate hopefully.

Re: Wales

The feel good factor for me left when Toshach was in charge. It was beginning to come back when Gary Speed was manager, but now thing are going rapidly backwards again.

Don't care who plays for Wales tbh, provided they play with "fire & passion".

Now where have i heard that before?
