In the league, if we had won the Carling Cup and had qualified for the Europa League group stages?
After reading these forums for around a year now, I've decided to join up and get involved in some discussions, and felt this was a good question to open up on as it's been a thought I've been having lately.
Assuming we were in the spot that Liverpool were in for the Europa League, we would have had matches on the following dates:
Thu 2 Aug v Gomel, Away (Europa League qualifying - 3rd Round)
Thu 9 Aug v Gomel, Home (Europa League qualifying - 3rd Round)
Thu 23 Aug v Hearts, Away (Europa League qualifying - Play-Off Round)
Thu 30 Aug v Hearts, Home (Europa League qualifying - Play-Off Round)
Thu 20 Sept v Young Boys, Away (Europa League - Group A)
Thu 4 Oct v Udinese, Home (Europa League - Group A)
Thu 25 Oct v Anzhi Makhachkala, Home (Europa League - Group A)
Thu 8 Nov v Anzhi Makhachkala, Away (Europa League - Group A)
Thu 22 Nov v Young Boys, Home (Europa League - Group A)
Thu 6 Dec v Udinese, Away (Europa League - Group A)
So, as our 1st Championship game was on the 17th August 2012, by now we would have had to have played an extra 8 games in Europe whilst the season was underway. I'm guessing some of our Championship matches would have had to be re-arranged also. Therefore, what do you think our current position in the league would be?

Europa League is a graveyard for many teams.
I doubt we would be top now.

I agree Glas, what position do you think we would currently be in?

Do you live all of your life in the past tense or is it just football related?

Hard to say because we might not have gone past the play-off round.

I think we would have got past the playoffs. Plus maybe we would have had some different players as some are attracted by European football. Maynard might not have got injured as well. We'd probably still be top, just about. It wouldnt be a 7 point gap as it is now

With the injuries we've had so far this season, them europa games added to our fixture list would have fuked us up no end. I'd have loved travelling abroad with the city though even for 1game. If we didn't have so many injuries, I reckon we could have given it a good go in the group stage, and still been up near the top of the league...4th-5th maybe with a million games in hand Lol
