Marco Rojas

Thu Jan 03, 2013 6:40 am

Travelled down to Melbourne to watch my local team Newcastle Jets play Melbourne Victory last Friday night.
There's a young New Zealander playing for Melbourne, who I've been following for the past few years, by the name of Marco Rojas. The kid's only 21 years old, has great vision, touch, and a fabulous eye for goal. The kid is destined for big things and comes off contract in April. Really think he'd do wonders under Malky's management.
These are the two goals he scored on Friday night. Both of them are sublime pieces of skill.

Bloody hell, don't wait till April, I'll go and get him myself, they are just two goals, but certainly worth following up. With talent like that, somebody will be in, just hope it's not the Jacks or Leicester.

He's still a little raw, but he definitely has promise.
Is there any specific email address at the club that I should use?

He won't be leaving until the end of the season AT LEAST.
I'm from Sydney yet think he is top class. Went to the Wanderers game on the weekend and he was running the game for Melbourne.
Still, I'd send an email now.

I rated him when he was at Wellington, but he's developed into a much better player since joining Melbourne Victory. Seems like a level headed kid too. Definitely a personality that Malky likes to have in his players :)

Pleasantly surprised with Western Sydney Wanderers this year. Popovic has done a great job :)

Wish I was in a more football-friendly state  Live in Adelaide and the thought of going to United matches just doesn't appeal to me (not to mention I don't have foxtel) but if I was in Sydney or Melbourne I'd probably have a season ticket for one team or another.

Yeah, at the beginning of the season, I looked at each team and was excited to watch every side as they all had something to play for and relevant to me - except Wellington...and Adelaide.
No marquees and tbh from what I have seen of them on TV, boring to watch.

Sydney FC matches are good to go to for the atmosphere, I went to the CCM game last week (wearing my Cardiff shirt of course) and the noise when Emerton scored was brilliant.

Football's on the up in Australia...and I would have a lot to shout about if Rojas did join Cardiff.

Looks like he's thinking about a European move at the end of the season. Sign him up Malky :ayatollah:

Re: Marco Rojas

He is class, best young player in the A-league along with Tom Rogic from Central Coast. Unfortunately Rogic is on his way to Reading apparently.

Re: Marco Rojas

I have just emailed someone I know at the club with this thread, the video and stats. Not saying its gonna work but it will reach Malky that's for sure. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

If good money is put on offer now he would come no doubt and the club would accept. Its their dream to move to Europe and as we're knocking on the Premiership door he'd come.

two good feet, an eye for goal, looks like he could be a minimessi - sign him up malky - more evidence of his skill here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcgubXzYTOU :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

He does have a lot of similarities to Messi, although on a far more inferior level. I'm also impressed by the fact that even though he's only 5' 6, he still has the ability to muscle in and hold off players when needed.

No offence but these two goals prove nothing. Obviously the lad looks a good player
but what standard is he playing at? Two goals on you tube do not a World beater make

gotta agree, you can trawl out any video of players scoring goals and say "look how good he is"

i remember people doint that when we signed Gavin Rae

I just picked out those 2 goals as an example of his skill. I've seen Rojas first hand on quite a few occasions during his time at both Wellington Pheonix and Melbourne Victory. The kid is pure class :ayatollah:

I mean no disrespect to you or your eye for talent lad.

f**k me, I played against Carl Dale when he was 14-15 and he destroyed me and
was straight on the blower to Cardiff City and Ron Jones (at that time)

He went to Chester, but imagine how chuffed I was when City eventually signed him

I know you didn't mean any disrespect and I fully understand what you're getting at regarding YouTube videos. Rojas is definitely worth a look at though. Especially on a free transfer.

This. A-league is barely conference standard, it is shithouse. City don't need kids from the other end of the world that may have potential. We need to tried and tested to get up and stay up. Who was the last top Aussie or kiwi striker, Shane smeltz? He bangs them in for Perth but wilted at genclerbiligi in turkey, and was shit even in china. Aussie press were talking about popovic managing a top European side one day... Give over. Rojas would be another Andrea ferreti or Jason Byrne. He'd be murdered at championship level

That Kiwi striker Chris Wood hasn't done anything lately has he? :)
Smeltz is a tough example to give because moving to Turkey is a bit harder than moving to the UK.
The standard of the A-League is a hell of a lot better than the old NSL, and the NSL produced shit players like Bosnich, Slater, Viduka, Zelic, Okon, Kalac, Culina, and the two Vidmar brothers, all of which played in the top flight leagues of Europe

and Kewell. He played in Australia at Youth Level before moving to Leeds.

Re: Marco Rojas

Tim Cahill most probably played youth level too but came through the wall at a young age so may be wrong.

Ryan Nelson ain't done bad and neither did Brett Emerton.

Rojas picked up the A-League player of the year award the other night, and is expected to fly to Europe next week to talk to a few different clubs, including Werder Bremen.
Would love to see him play under Malky in the Premier League!

He's already gone and agreed a deal, Liverpool is the suggestion.
