why are countries like..

Wed Jan 02, 2013 11:21 pm

parts of Africa, parts of Poland parts of asia etc how are they so far behind the uk, america, germany etc...

i know it looks a daft question but if you think about it how are we and america so lucky that were not a 3rd world country ? whats stopped us from becoming a 3rd world country ?

Re: why are countries like..

There was this thing called the expansion of the British empire when we basically put loads of Africans and civilians from other countries into concentration camps and tortured them until they served us.

In all honesty, it's a multitude of reasons and too complex to go into e.g. resources, historical reasons etc.

It really isn't the sort of chat you want to get into on here. It will evolve into a discussion as intense as the Israel-Palestine conflict! My head is still sore from that one!

i suppose, always nice to have a debate every now and then though, spice things up

Totally agree. Trust you to pick such a complex and intense topic!

Anyone fancy kicking this one off? I'll say that the African leaders of state have something to do with African countries' current plights. Found it hilarious when that Inside Claridge's programme mentioned about the heads of state for third world countries were staying in £3,000 per night suites for the 2012 Olympics. Yes Sooki... go to well. Walk 40 miles there and back to get your drinking water. Don't worry, your country's leader will just walk 40 centimetres to a gold plated tap to get his.

Asia is rapidly developing so at catching up with the developed world, even Burma who are slowly reforming. Africa is rife with corrupt governments and scummy terrorists/pirates. Africa could be come very developed if the African government give the people the money they made of selling billions worth of natural resources, such as, diamonds, oil, copper, gold etc.

Poland's economy is growing pretty quickly with investment in to their IT industry and one other infant think of. So the parts of Poland which are lagging behind, will catch up and you may see less immigrants come over.

I think a lot of it has got to do with some of these countries leaders-dictators they've had and have...especially in africa. The amount of civil wars and mass genocides that have gone on in certain places, is enough to ruin any country for generations, plus then you got "richer" countries raping the fuk out of there resources (chinas turn now) add in the mix of backward religions and superstitions

How about us raping the afore mentioned country's ( except Poland ) of all their natural resources for hundreds of years, And then having the cheek to cry out for help the lazy bastards! <<<<<<< sarcasm!

There are elements of the USA that are like a third world county. Look at the mess uncovered in New Orleans after the levy broke. Showed the US up for what it is - a country with extremes of wealth and poverty under the same flag

The uk isn't necassarily the best place to live, we got our own problems to deal with who knows what the future will bring financially,
we'd be fucked ina tsunami or an off shore earth quake or a rise in see level on the west cost.

everywhere has a balance thes e3rd world countries dont really know any different anyway and we've give a large percentage of them electrecity and showed them how to develop, and they have either used it or fucked it up because they have corrupt governments running the countries

how can people live with them selves knowing what they are doing to their countries, do any goverments stop them from spending this money ?

i know what you mean butt i also think many of us take for granted how lucky we are to live in the uk, even small things like money we are lucky with, im using top gear as an example - 1000 pounds is 15 million dong (vietnam money) allthough a stupid reference imagine having to carry 15 million dong about

We would never have that happen though which is why the UK has become such a powerful country. It all comes down to resources, the natural intelligence of the white man (not being racist and not saying that other races arent as intelligent) and key location of the british ilse.

To be hoesnt its come down to many things but mainly that we developed faster throughout other areas of the worlds.

America and Britain are the bullies of the world basically.

When you take other countries resources they can't use it because you've taken it.

Both countries are still doing it to this day but just more clever about it. Invade the countries that are weaker and suffering with their own problems and then pass off an excuse to justify it.

They won't invade a country like Venezuela with proven oil reserves because they know there will be a high level of resistance due to the fact they couldn't justify it. Instead they invade weaker countries where they know the resistance will be weaker.

America are bullies and our country are arse lickers who cater to their every move. I honestly would love America to get its comeuppance.

Depends on your perception I suppose. One could say that certain areas of Africa have a far better standard of living than areas in the UK if one forgets huge TV's, surround sound systems, microwave ovens, etc. Fine the water isn't on 24/365 and you may have to shit in a hole rather than take the wonderful public transport system provided by WAG to shite on the other side of the bridge but is it really that different?

Poland and indeed most of the former Soviet Socialist sat country's are in a dire state, the infrastructure has basically collapsed or is very very close to doing so, the reasons well known but it is being addressed and over the next 30 years it will be improved, hell we may even do it sooner.

Can't comment on Asia as I've only worked on a few projects so don't have a full perspective although colleagues who have worked in the region for 40 years+ tell me that is far less corrupt than say Africa.

Back to Poland and former CCCP countries, one area they blow the UK out of the water on is their Free health service which is actually Free! Fine they don't have the high tech gear the UK NHS does but you can see a Doctor when you need one, no queues and it doesn't cost 400 - 500 pound a month!

You are spot on to be honest. A lot of it is weighing up what you really need and what you can do without. Many people have the wrong perception of Bulgaria as a cold and run down place. Why? I don't know but maybe it relates back to communist times and the image has carried on from there. Over the last few years or so more people have cottoned on to the fact that it is actually a beautiful country.

I suggest you read the march of the titian books, the truth is every country that is or was a white country(northern european), has a high standard of living.

The other thing about a lot of Eastern Europe, is that it is very sparsely populated away from the capitals and one or two other large cities and this can give the conception of them lagging behind. Have travelled extensively in Romania, Poland and Hungary, as well as parts of Western Russia and they are beautiful countries with fantastic natural history and a simple way of life.

There will always be an unbalance in different areas of the world because there's a requirement to do it.

For example the main reason why manufactoring has moved aboard is because of the introduction of the minimum wage. Now if a world minimum wage was brought in then the price of items would shoot up and no-one will be able to afford anything!!!

Re: why are countries like..

Thu Jan 03, 2013 12:24 pm

The one thing that's always baffled me is how to areas of the world can be so different in terms of advancement of knwoledge, technology etc... think about it this way - in the 16th Century, gunpowder was finally becoming involved in warfare. People were developing firearms (albeit not very good ones) and we were able to create castles, cities and stuff like that. Yet, in America, the natives were still battering each other with spiky clubs (not even swords) and sacrificing people to the sun God, in the hope that he wouldn't destroy the world. How does that happen?

sorry but if people can't afford items then the profits of the company making the items decreases doesn't it..?

It depends what you see and want from a country my dear sandm94, if you love chavs and people faking injuries on the job then britain is ideal, also if you love the binge drinking culture then you are right at home, if you like naturally tanned birds then spain maybe is more your tipple, if you like skiing then living near the alps may tickle your pickle, its rather interesting and all boils down to personal interest, i personally dont like the uk for many reasons but then when i go abroad for a long time i miss certain aspects so that is the way it is and it is each to their own in this world because i know people who've moved to japan and liked it and others who went with who didn't because of the attitude to work was too much for them and they felt like they had no time to relax, some people love work and thrive off it so it would suit them, i dont think uk is third world in any aspect but it has definitely fell victim to materialism and deep rooted socio-economic problems for sure.

Bullshit.

We invaded Afghanistan who have NEVER lost a war in their history and don't seem to be losing this one. We invaded these countries for oil and to stop them attacking us not because they are "Weak", although admittedly that was what happened back in the commonwealth days.

Why haven't we invaded Venezuela or Canada then for oil? Simple answer is they'd kick up a fuss and so would other nations. When its a country like Iran or Iraq NATO turns a blind eye to it.
