Aron Gunnarsson

Wed Jan 02, 2013 9:21 am

Just saw somewhere that Southampton are lining up a bid for Gunnar. Do you think he would go there? I think he is committed to the cause here but I also think they will stay up and if he thinks the same it guarantees him Premiership football for at least a season. Of course he may well get there with us but if he's not Malky's first choice to start anymore then unfortunately I can see him going - thoughts? Sorry, no source as I can't remember where I read this.

Nobody will be leaving unless it fits in with Malky's plans

But thats my point - is Gunnar part of Malky's plans as he is not a regular starter this season unless injury prevents Mutch or Cowie from starting?

He started against Millwall when Mutch was fit.

He wont want to leave. The guy was in tears when he came off against Millwall

It's a squad game? I dont have stats to hand, but I'm sure Aronhas appeared more than the other two this season and I reckon it would take a fantastic out of this world bid before we'd even consider letting him go.

As MM likes to say its about the "GROUP" of players , not team or squad. Aron is an important menber of that group, so unless a real stupid bid comes in , I would say no one in the "GROUP" is leaving.

I agree with all the points made but the question remains - do you think Malky sees Gunnar as first choice if the others are fit? I know he started against Millwall but the facts are that he has been used as a sub for most of the season. He is my favourite city player, so really hope there is no legs in this story, but the point I was trying to make is; will he be happy to stay if not getting regular starts.

I think Gunnarson has been left out enough this season to make him seriously consider a move if an offer came in. However, I'm not sure Southampton would tempt him enough. Will they be in the premiership next season? Would he get more playing time in there midfield than ours? The likely answer to both of these questions is no so I don't think he would go but if someone with better prospects of staying up showed an interest I think he might be tempted to push for a move. For me he should be one of the first names on the team sheet and that hasn't been the case for much of this season.

I like Gunnar, I prefer him to Mutch by a mile in the middle. I can't see any way we would accept a bid for him unless it was huge, would have to be at least £5m+ to even think about it. Would he even want to leave, it's looking more and more like we will be promoted so he could end up worse off next year with Southampton.

I honestly don't think there is a first choice midfield pairing, we've changed it so many times this season even when everyone is fit. I don't think we'd accept any bid for him so he won't be going anywhere and I'd like to think if he was moving at all it would be somewhere bigger than Southampton, with all due respect to them.

I think that Gunnarssons performances had definitely dropped a bit. He deserved to be
on the bench. His attitude and drive coming off the bench has been commendable. He
Has battled hard and shown the right attitude. With Cowie getting game time in his best
position now, and Mutch in the squad, Gunnarsson cannot afford to rest on his laurels.
You can see it in how he plays.

If a Premiership team comes in for him, we will see just how much of an influence
Malky has been on his players. I'd like to think Gunnar wouldnt want to leave

I prefer Gunnarson over Mutch all day, Mutch just don't do it for me and wouldn't let Gunnarson go unless a huge Mounth come in.

His attitude and drive off the bench is because he wants to get a staring place and not a place on the bench :?
