I suppose the defences in other European leagues are pants when he tears them apart in the Champions League as well then? Messi is the greatest footballer of all time, ahead of Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Van Basten, Platini etc imo. I feel sorry for Cristiano Ronaldo as he is obviously the second best player in the world and if he came around a different time to Messi, we would be forever debating who was the greatest ever footballer out of the two.

People can slag off La Liga all they like but Atletico destroyed Chelsea. If you had the top teams of La Liga vs the top teams of the Prem then I would put my money on La Liga. Barcelona can do United, Madrid can do City, Atletico can do Chelsea, Valencia can do Arsenal and Bilbao could beat Spurs. As for the rest it goes a bit pear shaped for La Liga. The range of quality is much larger than it is in the Premiership.

In regards to Messi, he's proven it time and time again in the Champions League and is just now starting to play very well for Argentina.

When I saw the thread title I initially thought this was going to be in regards to his HGH injections.

Champions league is a far higher standard than international football nowadays.

The prem isnt as good as people make out, Ronaldo had 1.5 good seasons in the prem, woo bloody hoo

I saw the programme earlier. To be fair some of the goalkeeping and defensive work did look absolutely pants. Some of the goalkeeping in La Liga is abysmal

Ronaldo would often skip past people and all you would hear in the pub was 'stick a ******* foot in, why you letting him past? You *****' as if they were letting it happen. The simple fact is we are witnessing the two greatest players ever at the same time and they make most other current footballers look shit when they're in form.

Outside if Barca and Real the division is shite.

Atletico are ok this season but they are just this seasons surprise package.

Bilbao are poor this season and Sevilla and Valencia are not what they once were

All in all not a very competitive league.

The goalkeepers and majority of defenders in La Liga are championship quality. I still think messi would be top scorer in the prem, but probably score 20% less

He's great, but you have to give a lot of credit to that barca team he's playing in. Probably the best club side ever. That club have really looked after him and nurtured him when it looked like he would never make it at one point due to his growth problems and kronic injury problems when he was younger. Doubt he would have been the player he is now if he started off at any other club

Barcelona play the futsal or tik takka way and i,m a huge fan of that type of football .Wish our prem league sides could play that way week in week out

At least the La Liga teams give Barca and RM a game. Yes they tend to lose but they give them a good game. When Barca or RM play Man U it looks like a FA Cup match where a prem side has drawn a non league side.

Do you honestly beleive if the top 4 English clubs played in La Liga they would all finish in the top 6? In the real world I reckon at least one of them would be in the bottom few with the others floating mid table at least.

I agree. Almost everyone he plays again now revert to a kick the shit out of him tactic. They've given up on trying to play football against him, now they just kick the crap out of him. But he just bounces off the attack and usually cames away with the ball as well. Sometimes I think he's made or rubber the way he just bounces off.
