Cardiff City hero Rudy Gestede earns high praise after winner
Kerslake said: “Rudy is an outstanding professional. He came in, took his chance and will play a major part in what we are trying to achieve this year. He is a huge option for us.
Certainly our squad is one of our big strengths now."
Cardiff City assistant manager David Kerslake hailed the professionalism of Rudy Gestede after the French striker maintained the Welsh club’s five-point lead at the top of the npower Championship with the only goal of the game against Millwall.
Gestede scored his second goal of the season on his first start of the campaign in the eighth minute, with a close-range finish following good work by Craig Noone.
That was enough for Cardiff to record a 12th home win in 13 matches and keep hold of their advantage over nearest rivals Hull.
Kerslake said: “Rudy is an outstanding professional. He came in, took his chance and will play a major part in what we are trying to achieve this year. He is a huge option for us.
“We didn’t have the strength of depth last year. Now we’ve got players like Heidar (Helguson) and Don (Cowie) coming off the bench.
“We couldn’t do that a year ago. Certainly our squad is one of our big strengths now."
Gestede struck early to see off Millwall after beating his injury problems with the help of Olympic 200m silver medallist Darren Campbell.
“Rudy’s been doing a lot of work with Darren on his sprinting and the way he runs because he has been prone to injury,” Kerslake added after Gestede’s goal proved the difference at Cardiff City Stadium.
“Darren has taken him on and he’s run a little bit straighter, with a high knee lift. Darren’s been working with three or four of the squad and he’s really helped the players."

Rudy had a chance to shine and show what he is all about against Millwall and yea he worked very hard and scored the winning goal and well taken it was.
BUT he doesnt hold the ball up very well and he started well winning headers but it didnt last .Bellamy had next to no service from him he didnt win many headers in the rest of the game but he is a nuisance.
He trys hard I no but I just dont see him as a huge option for us he is no helgerson is he.
I am not slagging him just giving an honest assessment and I hope he improves and does well for us but for me he is not the answer.
Compare him to Bothroyd (I no hes a dick)and you can see how far he has to go to be able to play that position.
We have good players competing for places and I dont think Rudy is the answer although I hate to say that its true.
Hope he makes me eat my words.

Agree with that.
Great finish for the winner. Did he touch the ball after his goal? He may know how to run now, so can they get someone in to teach him how to jump? The amount of times he jumped and completely mis-timed it was embarrassing.

Totally agree. I don't think anyone is just knocking the boy - let's be objective - he's a trier but he isn't what we need for the final push. How many times did he mistime his jumps yesterday? What did he really contribute after the goal? Very little. We must buy a proven goal scorer and loan him out to give him more experience and see how he develops.

I think he could be a quality player in time, but id rather loan him out and bring in a proven striker myself

I take it you blame Rudy for getting 9 points? The guy deserved a chance to start and he got the important goal.

Rudy did well.. Whitts and bellamy's first touch and passing was worse and helguson looks like a slug with no impact lately but nobody mentions their poor display..
