Is Gestede good enough?

Sat Dec 29, 2012 5:44 pm

Everyone argues over it so here is a simple yes or no option.

Difficult one PtB. He finished well today and for last 20 v Palace he was excellent. I think as an impact bench player he is worth a shout. I cannot understand why Velikonja has not been given a chance-in the 20 minutes at Brighton he looked really lively.

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

No way is he good enough. He's ok as an impact player for the last 20 minutes but that's it. He did nothing after the first 30 today. We need a striker in the transfer window if we are to guarantee automatic promotion.

Still def No in my opinion, I would not like to rely on him week in week out to start. I like his attitude etc, just not good enough in.

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

Agree with the thoughts above. Good attitude but this is not his level. He managed to finish a pass that put the chance on a plate yards out but did absolutely nothing else all game bar one nice touch to lay off. I like the guy and really wish he was good enough but he's lower Championship at best. Millwall were pretty awful today and he still looked out of his depth.

absolutely not. but he gets my support everytime he plays. if on the other hand he lined up for opposition I would not be in the skirl bit worried.

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

I actually said yes, over the last few games he's proved he can add something. He's improving all the time and played really well at Leicester and Palace. Got a goal against Peterborough and took it well, and a lovely finish under pressure today, while also winning a few headers. But he could still improve on his touch.

However, we won, he contributed with the goal, and he's a Cardiff City player, get behind him!

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

I thought he played well today and in a couple of his appearances but my answer is still no, he is average at best and won't improve much over the next couple of seasons because I don't see him get him game time unless he ends up out on loan but he will get my support everytime he puts on the shirt and because of his attitude. :ayatollah:

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

Nope, he was useless today once again, that tap in doesn't justify him being good enough.

I like Rudy but there's no way he should be playing for a team who's favourites to win the league.

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

He's a player who is good for the Championship but not for the Prem. If we get promoted he will have to be sold.

To be fair though, in my opinion half the squad isn't Premier League quality.

No, replace and send him out on loan

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

Sat Dec 29, 2012 6:21 pm

Nope he never has been or never will be yet starts over others somehow, some say hes improving but i've seen better div 2 strikers than him who can head a ball thats going off one out of the six headers he wins. :ayatollah:

who the hell says yes?! and what do they think he is good enough for?

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

Sat Dec 29, 2012 6:29 pm

Im not sure what we class as good enough.

In January I would like to see us get more of a target man to replace him.

However for now he is the only player of his type we have. He has been doing well as sub and it was obvious MM was going to rest Helguson in one of these games and it made sense for it to be today. He could have started with Mason but I think Rudy deserved his chance. I thought he was excellent in the first 20mins but lost that momentum. Got a goal, the only goal, he did ok.

Summary, Id like to see us bring someone better in January but looking at the fixtures and what we have available upfront I think he deserved his chance today and did ok.

Some people here

Give the guy a break, he scored the only goal today which earned us 3 points, yet all he's getting is stick from so many people.
Quite frankly, there are other players in the squad who arent good enough in the prem, not just Rudy. But we are STILL a championship team. He is providing us options up front and seems to be making the most of his chances. Im not making a comparison, but many people never gave Grant Holt a chance a years ago, look at him now.

Well done today Rudy :ayatollah:

He is good enough. He scored the winner he battled won loads of headers and flick ons and defended when needed.
Malky picks him for him to be a nuisance and get a couple of goals but his main job is to cause a rfuss amongst the defenders so it free's up our midfield to have a shot..
He's done his job well lately and deserves to start against Brum

Re: Is Gestede good enough?

Think he deserved a chance and in fairness popped one in. From there on I just feel he sometimes gives up to easy. Still, don't think Helguson is the answer. Would have preferred to see Joe get a chance to prove the value he has provided us with in the past.

His fitness isnt up there with other squad members who have had more game time.

Agreed jinks, like many of our squad, they just need game time

People are expecting too much from him. He's not going to be a world class player but does what he's asked of him well and causes problems for the opposition. He's a very valuable player to have in team. Deserved to start today and did well but his fitness isnt the best.

well lucky for us he did put the (tap in)in the net unlike mutch and dont say the keeper made a great save as it should of been burried as should have bellamys chance ....dont get me started on players touch ..as our super star (best player in the championship alledgedly)had a terrible first touch today (whitts im on about ) :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

He is an impact player at Championship level. Nothing more than that.

Played well today though, he was better than quite a few out there :ayatollah:

Well said. Due to his lanky build he looks awkward yes so does Crouch and Kenwyn Jones but they're still very good players and have played most of their football in the top div. Gestede brings the same to the team a very different option that can win games as well as change games as today showed. to call his goal a tap in is rubbish it was well taken and a match winner. A number of players had far easier chances, Bellers 2, Mutch 1, and Conway 1. The Boys def. good enough and given more match time will show his worth. Agree should def. have at least some game time against Brum if not start, depends how the Manager sets it up. Just wish some posters woud get off his back and give the lad a chance, or do the doubters think our Manager has his head in the clouds.

In all seriousness, I was quite impressed by Rudy last year. Granted he didn't have an amazing season, not by any stretch of the imagination, but there were quite a few games in which he showed potential. Reading home when he came on as a sub was a prime example. I remember him having two excellent chances after he came on, both of which were brilliantly saved by Federici.

I thought he looked poor today, he scored a tap in and then went missing today. He is very static and for a young man he should be putting in a lot more. He won the odd header today and did a few link ups but you would expect that of any player sadly his overall effort and runs are shocking.

I really can't argue with that asessment of things.

Maybe a stint on loan somewhere with regular football would help bring him on a bit but I still haven't seen enough to suggest he is an asset to a team chasing premier league football.

Scoring the only goal of the game, surely makes him an asset.
He isn't the best but ATM the only type of player we have.
