charlie austin, would be a great investment...
The guys on 23 goals!! in as many games - he will finish top scorer even if he signs for a prem club january
Firstly we can safely say we would walk the championship money we make on promotion - 35+ million
Secondly shirt sales could go through the roof if hes a premier league sensation
when he's banging in 20-25 goals in the premier 'which I have no doubt he will be doing (keeping us up in the premier league = more revenue) he's gona be worth 20 million... He's a smart investment
It means in 2/3 seasons time when were good enough to survive without him, we could cash in and bring in perhaps 4/5 top quality players, in the process his goals could consolidate us as a premier league club while we look to improve our squad
in the same way michu is doing for swansea, I just feel if were going to take a gamble Right now he's the hottest prospect around if you want a gauranteed top scorer

We could probably get him for £5-6m up front, the rest in promotion fees Eric. that would be a fantastic piece of business

Don't think he'd be a player who improves shirt sales etc but there's no doubt that he'd improve our promotion chances. The only downside to it is, we're spending a lot of money on ONE player, what if he becomes a flop? Some players don't deal with the added expectation of a high transfer value and slowly rot away into uncertainty

I was told the other day his contract is up in June not sure whether that is accurate but if so his fee would be no more than £2m max, or even a pre contract would be good

More that 2014 it runs out so yes I'd say £7-8m would suffice for his signature

No player is worth 8 million in this division. Also, Glenn Murray is not far behind Austin, they are both on 20 league goals each. So I suppose with your logic, you're saying Murray is worth 8 million as well? The majority of us saw Austin earlier this season and we saw Murray on Boxing day, they didn't look 8 million pounds strikers to me. Was anyone saying Austin was worth 8 million when Jay Rodriguez was outshining him for Burnley last season? Southampton chose to sign Rodriguez ahead of Austin and Rodriguez can't get a game for Southampton at the moment, just saying!

Great post mate, I totally agree, he would be my number one choice, would he really cost that much though, maybe we could get him for less?
We need to an for the future, we don't really need short term fixes at this point now.....

I hope we would pay 6m and no more but agree with your sentiments

Crazy yes defo

£4m? Possibly. But no way should Championship Clubs be spending more on one player.
Just look at what Brighton and Leicester have been spending last couple of seasons. It
guarantees f**k all, unless the REST of your team is up to scratch.
Best investment Cardiff City have made in the last 20 years is in Malky Mackay.
You can buy all the ferraris you like, but without the right driver, you'll never win a race

I agree with above.....any championship club spending that amount on 1 player deserves to go to the wall!!
