' Cardiff City support 'unbelievable' says manager Malky Mackay '
Season ticket sales are heading towards the 20,000 mark, boosted by the sale of around 1,000 covering the second half of the campaign, and manager Mackay says: “The support has been unbelievable.”
Cardiff City fans are buzzing as the Championship leaders face their final match of 2012, against Millwall at home this afternoon.
Malky Mackay’s men are five points clear at the top and supporters are roaring their team on, having set stadium attendance records, both more than 26,000, in each of the last two matches.
Season ticket sales are heading towards the 20,000 mark, boosted by the sale of around 1,000 covering the second half of the campaign, and manager Mackay says: “The support has been unbelievable.”
City are out to earn a 12th home win when Millwall visit today and another hefty attendance is expected.
It won’t be another record, but Mackay says: “The turnout has been unbelievable – I glanced up at the scoreboard during our win against Crystal Palace and could scarcely believe how many people were there.
“The fans are seeing a mirror image of themselves in terms of the passion from players out on the pitch – and having that fervour of support helps the team immensely.”
A stadium record 26,073 watched City’s home clash with Peterborough United, while that was raised to 26,098 for the 2-1 top-of-the-table win against Crystal Palace.
Cardiff are clear at the top and certain to start the new year as leaders. They are 13 points ahead of seventh-placed Millwall, having piled up 50 points from 24 matches and are the Championship’s top scorers with 46 goals.
They play Millwall at home this afternoon, Birmingham City away on New Year’s Day and then have a 10-day break from Championship football before Ipswich Town come to Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, January 12.
The Bluebirds play an FA Cup third-round tie at Barrow or Macclesfield on the first Saturday in January when Mackay is certain to take the chance to use the full extent of his squad and rest senior players.
Stephen McPhail and Tommy Smith, who is close to full fitness, both look certain to play in the cup clash.
Today, though, Mackay’s men are intent on completing a league double against Millwall and maintaining their powerful bid for automatic promotion.

Even if we ent on the best at home with atomsphere I do like the way he appreciates the effort of some fans and the support we give.
Under his first season it was great to see us be involved and he spoke of us as the 12th man.
You don't see many managers in interviews speak about the fans and the turn out

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballna ... -32509551/That must surely be an all time record...anyone know in which year season ticket sales were first issued to fans at Cardiff? Regardless of the year they first went on sale I doubt they ever reached the 20,000 mark before.
Our walk up crowds are much lower than ever before but that maybe due to the huge number of season ticket holders or the fact that many may buy in advance...I wonder exactly how many just turn up on the day and buy a ticket...I doubt its more than a few hunderd these days.
Crowd expected to reach 24,000 tomorrow but that includes around 350 from London...still its a great crowd to be fair.

Corky, Yes its a record for us as years ago our fans never use to buy season tickets as much. Once I remember buying mine and we had less than 200 season ticket holders all season. Boy we have come along long way.
