Simon Lappin's Cardiff City loan spell set to end in new year

Cardiff City defender Simon Lappin is due to rejoin Norwich City on January 2nd 2013,

Lappin signed for the Bluebirds during November and made his debut at Barnsley, but hasn’t played since.

His loan finishes after Cardiff’s trip to play Birmingham City next Tuesday, but manager Malky Mackay says: “Simon has been really unfortunate.

“He was unlucky to be sent off at Barnsley and but for that he would certainly have played in our next match, against Derby County.

“Simon has been a good professional during his time here. He’s a great lad and has fitted in well.”

Mackay also hinted that Lappin’s loan could yet be extended, saying: “I will talk to Norwich City about Simon next week and we will decide from there.”

Probably not, I would go and get a permanent replacement.

No, January window is an opportunity to strengthen perm not just short term, if he's a Premiership player he should be getting into this team, he isn't. Let him go back, he's too old as well. We should look to someone much younger

I'd rather let Lappin head back to Norwich and splash the cash on Martin Olsson.

Sure, if may cost a fair amount, but that lad's ready for the Premier League. :ayatollah:

I know I'm being a little cocky here, but, it makes sense to perhaps keep Lappin here on loan until the end of the season and sign a Premier League quality LB in the summer WHEN we get promoted (I've got a good feeling!!!). That seems a bit more forward thinking than getting somebody in permanently. For example, say we sign a Championship standard LB who granted knows the division and does a good job but is not good enough for the PL. All of a sudden we are left with a LB with a contract for a few seasons who isn't good enough. Lappin isn't the best, but for back-up he could well be the logical stopgap until the end of the season.

I guess so but Lappin hasn't much of an opportunity at Norwich either, he's only a good Championship LB, hence why we should maybe go for a young LB on loan from the Premiership, with the window opening teams will have had enough time to evaluate where they need to strengthen and how they'll bring in the players, I don't think I could see Lappin playing much for us if we did get promoted

i cant understand why we or other teams . get loan players in and never play them frei is another one, not just from our point of view . but the loanee club. why send them out if there not going to play. there sent out for game time. not to sit in the stand. pointless. i think?

I would like his loan extended until the end of the year as we need cover for Taylor, although not seem him play! :D

Parent club to save on wages I'd guess.

We only needed him while Taylor was suspended.

Lappin's only played in one game so far which he was unlucky to get sent off in. He probably would of started the next game as well.

Although most of us haven't seen Lappin play, he is a useful part of the squad as we might be in trouble if Taylor gets injured. So unless malky gets in another lb in Jan, I would try and extend Lappin's loan to the end of the season because you don't want to risk just having 1 lb in the squad! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Would prefer us to sign a full time left back in Jan. Think it's a must.
