STRIKER NEEDED

A consistent striker who can hit the back at the net on a regular basis is what we need. We have a big blow with Maynard out for the season, We can't rely on Craig Bellamy, Whitts and Heidar every game. We need that one player that has that special something because teams that get promoted like Southampton had a striker like Lambert who was obviously a crucial for them.

Yes and no. Sometimes our strikers aren't clinical enough but aren't we the leagues top scorers?

I personally believe we do lack a natural 'box' player. Someone with that natural
instinct to get on the end of half-chances. However, do we NEED one?

Most definitely not with a two-goal-a-game scoring average.

We have THIRTEEN players who have scored this season. Eight of which have scored
four goals or more.

A lot of the credit for this must go to Heider Helguson who has led the line brilliantly
but he is not getting any younger. If he gets injured, or Bellamy... we could struggle.

We definitely need cover up front. I dont think Rudy is up to it week in week out
and obviously Velikonja isn't 'ready'.

I think D J Campbell, Sharp, and Sordell are realistic targets rather than the likes of Graham, Frazier Campbell, or Austin

We need another striker but not someone just to score, we already get enough goals, we need a team player who can finish the chances we create but not someone greedy.

i agree, with maynard, his running into the box with and without the ball also caused loads of problems.

we won a couple of penalties from him and i really think we need a similar type of player. maynard created chances not only for himself but for others too. we need to finish more of the opps we create.

for me i would make charlie austin our main priority.


last yr, the 3 promoted teams all brought in strikers who proved invaluable to them in the run towards the end of season.

west ham with vaz te and maynard etc... soton with sharp and reading with roberts.

I'd quite like to see Billy Sharp at the CCS. Very clinical finisher.

None of these are Premiership quality. All are well below Grahams and Lambert's level and Vaz Te when he turns it on is a level above again but he is inconsistent, very much like Bothroyd. We need to sign someone from a Prem team so if we do get promoted they won't just be a waste of time. If we go up i'd like to see Bellamy wide left, Noone on the right with Jerome and Maynard up front. A tall striker, a shorter striker, both with pace, both harass defenders and both can finish.
