Player Rating V Palace

Wed Dec 26, 2012 7:00 pm

Now that’s what you call a game of two halfs.
1st Half we were simply awful, yes we had a couple of chances and we did get the equaliser but they dominated IMO, they were first to every ball and every second ball, everyone of the palace players seem to find yards and yards of space to work with.

2nd half I thought we were excellent, dominated and well worth the 3 points

Marshall 8 – couldn’t do anything about the goal and made couple of good saves especially in the first half, one that springs to mind is one reflex save he punched away. A very good keeper.

Kev 7 – Thought he did well today, the fullbacks had some tricky wingers but they stuck to it. Defensively he was top draw. A few poor passes as usual but I did feel some fans were giving him unfair stick at time today, some moaning about “poor passes” when it was just clearly a clearance, sometimes it has to be done.

Hudson 8 –Must be in the form of his life, what a captain, what a defender. Lovely little calm header back to Marshall near the end, totally took the pressure off. Probably should have been sent off mind.

Turner 6 – Maybe a little harsh, maybe should be a 7. He did little wrong except his stupid diagonals but at the moment something about him doesn’t fill me with confidence like it did last season.

Taylor 7 – Thought he played well again, like Kev had a tricky day but stuck to it and did well.

Noone 6 – Got the goal but didn’t really seem himself today, I prefer him on the right where he can cut inside.

Witts 7 – Got stuck in and came into his own in the second half with some quality passing.

Mutch 3 – Couldnt believe how poor he was, simply not good enough, couldn’t pass, couldn’t shoot, didn’t tackle, not surprised to see him subbed.

Conway 7 – Another good game, started quietly and wasn’t tracking his man well enough during the first 30mins but got better and better as the game went on (seems to happen often with him?)

Helguson 6 – Not really at the races today

Bellamy 8 – Ran his heart out, two assists I think? All that was missing was a goal, could have had 3 really.

Gunnarrsson 8 MOTM – made such a difference having someone alongside Witts, tackled well, passed well, got a goal. He HAS to start on Saturday.

Rudy 7 – Caused them problems, held the ball up well and unlucky not to score.

Mason 5 – Someone teach the lad what offside is? At a time we needed to try and keep possession and take the pressure off he was wildly and massively offside, annoyed the hell out of me.

A special mention to the ref who was just poor, seemed to want to make the game about him, random bookings at random times, inconsistent wasn’t the word.

They say a good keeper gets a few points a year, but Marshall is getting us more, twice the keeper than Heaton was! Deservedly our number one, and on his way to being a club legend! :ayatollah:

Hudson - 7
Turner - 7
Taylor - 7
Noone - 7
Mutch - 5 (potential is there, but not good enough today)
Whittingham - 6/7
Conway - 8
Helguson - 6

Gunnarsson - 8
Rudy - 6
Mason - 5 (little time to make an impact)

To give Gunnar MOM over Bellamy is madness.

Changed the match, got the goal.

Bellamy missed three chances he should have scored from.

Close but Gunnar for me.

Bellamy must be 6 inches shorter the amount of work he did plus the 2 assists and terrorised them all game.

Football is about opinions i suppose

Why do people like you always slate a striker if they are caught offside a few times in a game? Rarely have I seen Mason get pulled up for offside and the same goes for Bellamy but both were guilty of being offside a few times today. All it means is Palace held a very good back line and pushed forward at the right time.

We got three points and we played well in the second half. Stop moaning!

Re: Player Rating V Palace

Your saying Gunnersson must start v Millwall. I think same could be said about Rudy :o

Re: Player Rating V Palace

Wed Dec 26, 2012 7:46 pm

Hardly moaning, ive wrote up a bit on all the players and you have singled out one line just so you can moan, plenty of positives you seem but you seem to have glazed over them

Mason was miles off side on two occasions right near the end when he had no need to be offside especially by the distance he was and no it had nothing to do with palace moving up he was just stood offside. It may not seem a big thing to be offside and usually its not but when it comes in the last few minutes it means we lose the ball (obviously) and they get a set play, a chance to get everyone forward and the potential to cause more problems and it puts a lot more pressure on the team and the defence. It gave Palace another two chances to throw everything at us when in reality if he was just more careful and used his brain they wouldnt have. It didnt cost us today thankfully.

Re: Player Rating V Palace

Wed Dec 26, 2012 7:46 pm

Bellamy just about deserved man of the match from gunnarrsson who i agree should start saturday
Great to see kev putting in a performance aswell, although connolly deserves to start against millwall
Also after looking quite awful at times earlier in the campaign andrew taylor seems to be regaining his consistency of last season, he doesnt seemed to be getting knocked off the ball as much lately, played well today and against leicester

referee was dreadful but neither side benefitted

Bellamy was cracking today and my man of the match. Scores bit harsh on Mason and Mutch. He never got going but wasnt that bad, Whitts was largely anonymous but looked better second half. Hudson was lucky to stay on but was quality all game same for Turner though he did make mistakes. Gunnarson was quality and should be starting.

Re: Player Rating V Palace

Wed Dec 26, 2012 8:22 pm

some great performances today,

Bellamy outstanding,
thought taylor was awesome,
and after the last home game when i saw kev have his worst game for city, he was back today :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: Player Rating V Palace

Hudson was MOTM by a country mile

The ref was shitty cheat

Mason was offside once the other times was the linos imagination

Bellers missed a few but had a great game

Saha was a diving cheat

Their number 15 the Aussie done enough to be sent off twice

Marshall - 8
Good game. One of his quiet ones but was there to do his duty when needed. Not at fault for the goal!

Kev - 9
Yes he doesn't have the best passing game, but kept Zaha in his back pocket. Didn't panic and kept him under control where Zaha had to change wings.

Hudson - 9
Captain Calm! Once again, giant in the air, defended well. A few bad and clumsy challenges though.

Turner - 7
Loved him last season!!! This season im getting sick of him just hitting the ball down the field. This was where most our possesion was lost today. But some good tackles made. Playing a longer ball where a shorter one is available.

Taylor - 8
Some loose passes and lost positioning at times but a decent game with some decent runs. Also kept Zaha quiet.

Noone - 8
Well taken goal. Made decent runs which drew in a few fouls. Needed to pass the ball more often as most of the time ran into trouble.

Conway - 7
Good game but no cutting edge like he's had the past few games.

Mutch - 7
Decent gama but lost the ball to often and took on to much. As it stands i rather Gunnar in the side.

Whittingham - 8
Good passes (as always) with a few winning headers which is good to see. Unlucky with his freekick and some good crosses.

Bellamy - 9
Showed his PL class today. The runs he makes is beyond us. He was offside about 5x today; not because of poor timing, just because he's one step ahead of those who are passing. Could have scored a hatrick today through his runs if no harsh offsides were called. His play to set up the first goal was a touch of class!

Helguson - 6
Beginning to become a fan of Helga the past months. But today he was quiet. Palace defenders too much for him today. Was rightly replaced for Rudy

Gunarsson - 9
Changed the game in my opinion!! Our midfid looks much more relaxed and at ease when he's playing. Well taken goal and he just seems to pose more of a threat than Mutch & Cowie.

Mason - 7
Didn't have much time to get in the game today. But showed that hes an option for the second half of the seadon. Few runs which were top class.

Rudy - 7
Rightly replaced for Helga. He came on amd started winning headers. Could have grabbed a goal if a cross was lower. He gets criticised constantly but no one understands that he's really only there to win headers (which he done well)!

Re: Player Rating V Palace

Wed Dec 26, 2012 9:15 pm

Our midfield has not functioned since the Blackburn game.

Mutch has been poor as has Whitts. They don't seem to play well together. I maybe controversial here but I think Whitts should be rested. He has not done anything for a while now. Even his corners have been poor. Not clearing the first man (better today).
Gunnar has to start in my opinion.

Think exactly the same mate. He's not playing well so needs to be dropped even though I hate to say it.

Gunnarson is a must start for me in most of our games. He's such a quality, and also a fan favourite. One of my top Malky signings along with Noone.

Gunnarson would do great in the Prem in my opinion.

Re: Player Rating V Palace

The worst goal we conceded this season by miles, Whittingham ducked under a header which he could of easily got to.

Marshall (7) A great game unlucky to concede.

Taylor (7) He played a decent game to be fair and deserves a little bit more praise today.

Hudson (8) Really played well and Murray got a dodgy touch in the first half and I do believe the pressure Hudson put on him behind him done the trick.

Turner (7) A few poor passes as always but he didn't to much wrong.

McNaughton (7) He done well, just because of the bad things he done in past games people continue to slate him.

Noone (6) Got a good goal he was quiet to be fair.

Whittingham (7) Blame Whitts for the goal. He done well though.

Mutch (5) Quiet poor and he shot one over when the fans egged him to shoot, some of the fans really piss me off like that.

Conway (7) Conway done really well and attacked the fullbacks. He claimed a lot of fouls, we got loads today.

Helguson (6) He done a lot of work and was trying to hold the ball up but Whitts and Mutch were really slow into picking the ball up.

Bellamy (8) He done fantastic and I question one or two decisions were he was offside.. The ball for Noone was quiet a good assist.

Gunnarsson (8) He got the important goal but he also missed one before that.. He came on the midfield look more organised and shape. Won a lot of second balls.

Mason (5) Didn't do much wrong or right

Gestede (6) Played a bit and nearly scored. Despite not headering any in the box he caused a lot of trouble dragging defenders out.

Last season we were very good at winning the second ball but we are lacking that in a few games.
Marshall give Murray a good knock in the first half  :ayatollah:

Re: Player Rating V Palace

Wed Dec 26, 2012 11:37 pm

First half we were terrible just like watching Peterborough again and place should of been 2-3 up but second half totally different team and we made palace look very ordinary.

Marshall - 8 - without him this season I don't think we would be where we are top top quality

McNaughton - 8 - So pleased he had a good game, will always be one of my favourites and I've been hating it when he's out of team and playing bad but picked it up today.
Hudson - 8 - What a player he's been this season
Turner - 7 - Does play some strange long balls but got his head stuck in everything today
Taylor - 7

Noone - 6 - Good goal at a good time but didn't really do it for me today
Mutch - 3 - Very bad and rightly subbed at half time
Whittingham - 6 - Not a bad game but I think he needs a rest
Conway - 7 - Done so well since he's come back in always running

Helguson - 4 - Didn't do a lot why not bench him and bring Gestede in to start ?
Bellamy - 8 - Really starting to see again what a player he is full of commitment and running brilliant

Gunnarsson - 8 - Totally changed the game and for me has to start next game.
Gestede - 7 - Done very well and as I said why not start him ?
Mason - 6 - Doesn't seem the same kind of player like last season but such a great talent.

Hardly unreasonable selection for MoTM. They rated the same but for the facts above he was my MOTM

I believe he changed the game, he was stronger than mutch in the middle
He seemed to help control the middle
and get the goal

He hasn't deserved not to play, so I hope for gunnar he ends up playing saturday :ayatollah:

Re: Player Rating V Palace

marshall 8 made some great saves yesterday again, and come off his line quickly to be first to the ball..
kev 6 defensively kev was very good yesterday...
taylor 7 again a good perormance in defence, slightly better with the ball than kev.
hudson 8 captain marvel, outstanding , won countless headers and challenges.
turner 7 defensivlely fine, but that wasteful diagonal ball is getting to me!!
whitts 7 deserved a goal from the free kicks, had a better game than recent weeks.
mutch 3 dreadful in all areas, poor with the ball, no energy without..
noone 7 took his goal well.
conway 7 tries really hard and is always 100% committed. not amazing but has the heart for a fight!
bellamy 9 woked his socks off, always causing problems and deserved a goal.. mom
helgueson 6 slightly off par today and looked like he needs a rest.

gunnarsson, 8 was screaming for him to be on after 10mins.. glad malky made the change at the half and was instrumental in the second half.
rudy 6 too indecisive and some poor judgement with some passes. should have buried 1. did cause palace a few problems with some headers.

mason 6 didnt have a lot of game time to earn much more, silly yellow card and could have had another..
