I've sat/stood in the home stand when Cardiff have been the visitors. I would never ever think of celebrating if we scored. Fortunately I can control myself. i just can't imagine anyone sitting or standing with the opposing fans being stupid enough to celebrate their team scoring. Crazy.

Hmm

Welsh Liverpool football fan.

In todays Echo.

AS I was a Liverpool fan unable to source tickets for our own section of Wembley stadium, a Cardiff-based colleague managed to obtain two tickets for the Cardiff section of fans behind the goal.

Although not an ideal situation, it allowed us to at least see the match and I told my 15-year-old son it would be OK as this was not the hooligan-filled days of the 1970s and 1980s Britain.

Although I thought there was no particular enmity between Cardiff and Liverpool fans, we did not wear our team colours lest this be seen as antagonistic.

However, I made the mistake of instinctively punching the air in celebration when Liverpool scored their first goal, an action that lasted for all of a second, and this was the cue for a volley of vitriol from fans behind us. I was spat on and kicked in the back and when I turned around to see who had kicked me I was incredulous to see a man in his 60s who was bellowing abuse at us.

Fearing for our safety we left our seats to be met by a chorus of Cardiff fans cheering loudly and singing something about us having to leave our seats and go home. The only stewards to be found were in the bowels of the stadium and as they could not find us anywhere else to sit we had no option but to leave the stadium.

What I found most disconcerting was the fact that I expected this to be the actions of a very small handful of idiots; every club has them and my own is no exception. However, I was shocked at the bitterness and hatred spewing from the vast majority of the Cardiff fans around us after the goal was scored.

I would like to thank the genuine Cardiff fan who followed us down into the stadium to apologise for the actions of these supporters; this guy seemed genuinely shocked and upset at what had happened.

However, to all those others who were sitting behind us in Block 542, may you hang your heads in shame at bullying a 50-year-old man and his 15-year-old son out of their seats on what should have been a memorable occasion for all concerned.

Liverpool fan

Should not have been in our end. Should not have had a ticket from a Cardiff fan. Two wrongs here. Don't these people understand football ? Get tickets from your own club, and sit in their end.

Denis ya big wingy gobshite you missed a great opportunity there to get some father - son bonding.

Then in later years we could have laughed aboout it but what have you gone and done?

pembroke.i get what your saying. our group travelled on the tube with mostly scousers, and had a good bit o banter, but, as i get while i,m down the ccs, as soon as the game starts the passion rises and i get very very animated,.
we had a couple of scousers in our block , and when they scored they lost it and celebrated , i and a few others in no uncertain terms told em to do one and f**k off, which they did, few other city folk inc women also pressed the point. they go in their end i,ll stay in mine. silly thing to do esp with 15 yr old. its tribal always will be. after the game had some good chats with a few scouse who by the way were very impressed with us. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Mr Riley.

The second you stepped through the Wembley gates you broke the ground regulations.
You could have had NO complaints if you'd been collared by police on the way up the
steps and thrown out before even seeing the pitch.

You decided to celebrate a goal? Your choice. It was 30,000 Cardiff City fans you were
sat amongst, not 30,000 Christian Evangelists. Add to that, copious amounts of beer,
passion, emotions running high etc etc.

Your choice.

Kids trust adults though. When you said "we'll be alright in here"...

How many beers had YOU had?????

Chopsy prick

Sorry mate, its a different issue.

Should he have been subjected to physical violence? NO.

He said himself he didnt wear any colours because he knows that all clubs have idiots following them, yet he still chose to watch the game knowing that. How was he to know if he sat next to those "idiots"

He broke wembley rules. He knew he was breaking wembley rules. He made his teenage son break these rules and put him in danger, knowing what might happen.

Should there be violence in football? NO
We dont live in an ideal world though.

Just because we understand why he got abused, doesn't mean we condone it.

From Facebook

Kevin L Fellows i was told they was down the stadium near the pub buyin them at double the face value

Lee Waldron alot of our scouse fans who go every game couldnt get tickets, we get alot of wools from all over the place who will pay top dollar for tickets. i got told your tickets went on general sale???
44 minutes ago · Like

Stephen Ieuan Jones Not too sure about general sale lee, but season ticket holders who renewed for next season were eligible for 2 tickets for the final. Probably most of the Liverpool fans in our end were friends of season ticket holders. Perhaps we impressed them enough with our display to support their local team. Good day out in general, west ham Sunday is our next cup final we must win so come on bluebirds bluebirds

I've been in the Bristol City end when we sold out of tickets to Ashton gate, (we lost 2-0 in '88 so no repurcussions), Northampton Town (when we were banned and had the stupid voucher scheme, (drew 1-1 and I kept it in when Cohen Griffith scored) and the Portsmouth end at Fratton Park (in a League Cup match that we surprisingly won and scored two, again although bouncing inside, I kept bloody quiet).

I feel the naivety of this character (who took his bloody son in) stems from the fact that he watches the majority of his football from the armchair or down a pub full of likewise Liverpool adoring South-Walians. No sympathy.

I can't agree with anyone getting attacked when their children are with them. If he was on his own or with a group of adult friends then its different but to put a parent and child in fear...........wrong, very wrong.

Gloat in someones face about something and you tend to feel the repercussions.

You don't go up to a disabled person and mock them, nor a black person, irish person, etc etc

And you most certainly don't mock and deride Cardiff City when they let in a goal and you're sitting in the bloody Cardiff end
