since62 wrote:The criticism I was making Carl was the huge build up that your post was getting for most of the week with all the "explosive" news bit .

I appreciate that there will always be a large element of spin in the lead up to boost posting figures or widen the regular poster base (the club could do with more such imaginative marketing ploys itself :D ) but it has increasingly become over the top in recent weeks.

The , as you say "possible" return of Chopra is a very welcome possibility and good news but not "explosive" by any definition I know. Nor is the fact that the players have had a well deserved b*llocking over their off the field activities.As you will suspect , I would say this has occured not largely as a result of Dave Jones reading this forum but as a result of a series of events which have previously been reported in the press (I do accept he may have read comments here and referred to them in his talk to the players though). Chopra and Blake in particular have had their behavioural problems publicly exposed over several months.

The problem with the Bothroyd £4m missed transfer rumour is that it is just that. The club have denied it , Fulham have denied it and Bothroyd himself has denied it. I don`t doubt that you have been told that they are all telling lies about this but , while your source remains anonymous (as a player or employee he will have to keep his head down) there are no facts available to make the reporting of such a rumour "explosive" either. I am even unsure if getting £4m for him would have been a good deal at the time as reducing the debt due to Sports Asset Management (the money couldn`t have been used for new signings as we know) had to be balanced against losing our top scorer whose goals could have (and still could) get us promoted with the consequent far greater financial rewards.

I wouldn`t want you to make things up (others accuse you of that - I haven`t) , I just think the whole update thing is becoming increasingly overhyped week by week. As a posting by itself it contained some good opinions and comments to stimulate debate.

Keith

Keith I accept that people believe the updates are over hyped but on this particular 'promoting' I take responsibility as I used the word explosive (once!) and a lot of people went into meltdown and started believing they knew what I was going to say and more so actually claimed that I had said it was an explosive update about Jay Bothroyd but as you know (or I suspect you do at least) I never did say that viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40928&hilit=jay+bothroyd, I said "But on Sunday there is an explosive update which you get more than just a mention in, so pop along and have a read".

Now I believe the over-hyping was done by those who were responding in that said thread, some 123 posts and thousands of views clearly show that, so I do not think this particular update was in fact over hyped, more eagerly anticipated I would like to say.

As you know when you are trying to make people aware of a particular cause or a piece of news then you need viewers and I think the evidence suggests we managed that.

Now what one person believes to be explosive can be different to another persons view and what I will say is,I believe each of those situations in the update I spoke of are all factually correct and without this update they would not be known to the 7000 or so viewers that have now looked and read what is written.

As I have to keep repeating myself I only write what I am told and if I think something is far too damaging,in my opinion, then I do not put it out as you well know because let's be honest you and I have spoken of some very private matters involving the club that I have never repeated on any message board. I accept that I put myself in the firing line and I accept I will be criticised from some quarters, who can forget when I said "Ridsdale had resigned", it took many others over 6 months to come on here and actually back up my claim that Ridsdale had in fact offered his resignation and was minutes away from the actual press conference when he pulled out his infamous service contract demanding £1million to leave. You were one of those who finally came out and backed me up eventually but did I ever start throwing peoples names about who knew as well as I did that was the case, no I didn't, so when you say my source ( in fact it is sources ) remain anonymous that will always remain as I have given my word to many many people that I would never link them any shape or form to what I write.

Can someone show me where and when Cardiff City or Fulham denied this claim ?

i still think the fulham thing is mischief making by someone from within the club.
i was categorically told in the first week of february that no club had come in with a money offer for Jay and that in fact one club( not fulham) had made a tentative enquiry.

Steve, I believe that Sky Andrew would say the total opposite to what you just said. And as well as Fulham, Stoke and Birmingham were interested in him too.

i agree with you totally there carl as january was his last chance to get a commission fee out of selling jay on.
I would also agree that those teams were also interested in jay but the fact remains nobody put a firm bid on the table for him and that came from the highest level

If I am Honest Steve, I thought they were the ones who would of just bought him for their Reserves with the money they received.

Carl, can I ask you some questions;

1. Did you genuinely think that your use of the word "explosive" would not have produced the reaction it did?
2. You are a victim of your own success in that there are many who now take what you say as gospel and, given all the stick Jay Bothroyd had been getting before Saturday's match, surely you must have known how many would have interpreted what you said?
3. That being the case, what do you think the reaction would have been like if Jay (a player who had been booed by some in our previous home match) would have missed the penalty on Saturday?

Just a couple of observations to finish;

1. I don't understand how you can reconcile saying;

"I would never set out to harm our club nor do I have an agenda that would not want our team, our manager and most importantly our club to succeed."

at the start of your update on Sunday with what you later said about Martin O'Neill.
2. I agree with Keith. As I mentioned earlier, your updates have become very popular and, speaking as someone who always reads them, I wonder how much difference all of the hype and advertising prior to posting they get makes now? Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel that the number of viewings and responses you get wouldn't be too much different if you just posted your updates without the publicity they are given beforehand,

If I was Carl I would answer:-

1. Semantics. I could have used any similar word. It had the effect as it attracted a lot of views. All blown out of proportion. You don't have to read them.
2. I do not accept that as I have been wrong, or more correctly my sources have been wrong as in James Vaughan "officially being the 1st signing of 2011." It is up to people how they react; I just pass on the news via source.
3. Like any missed penalty. No different to when Whittingham missed v Palace last month or McCormack v Ipswich which cost us a play off spot indirectly. Disappointment more than anything. Nobody misses a penalty on purpose!

I have no idea what Carl will say in response, if he does at all, but why pillory the man? His posts are interesting and most I am sure take them in the spirit he gives them and with a little pich of salt.

Paul I apologise for the lateness in my reply but it is only now that I have seen your questions.

To your first question I did expect my use of the word explosive to gain a reaction but what I did not account for was that many replies and reactions to it would be about Jay Bothroyd, I merely invited Jay top read an update in which he would get a mention. Of course I accept I used it for a particular reason and I still believe I did the right thing as there were many users frequenting the board at the time the update was put out. If I or anyone else said that I had explosive news about Jay then that would have been wrong in my opinion as I clearly stated many times that the update was explosive but it was not necessarily about Jay.

In response to your second question I guess I have answered it in the main above, but as you say whatever I say will be taken a certain way but that goes two ways also. Many things are said on messageboards that are attributed to me and simply put I have never said many of them, I am aware of certain threads being deleted on messageboards as they have been outrageous lies but I suppose you are right with your quote that I am a victim of my own success.

If Jay had taken missed then penalty on Saturday, without trying to sound flippant, then there is nothing I could have said or done to change that and I am not sure if you are suggesting that because of my post that more people would have turned on Jay without even knowing at the time what was going to be in the 'explosive' update, but as we know Jay reads the board and he had no problem taking the penalty so that in itself shows courage and bottle. I do not dislike Jay, in fact he is one of my favourite players and I have never and will never boo a player, the team or the manager.

With regards to me mentioning Martin O'Neill, again I simply wrote what rumour I had heard and many others had also, about Martin and our club. I clearly wrote that I did not believe it to be true and that in my opinion it was only a rumour and also I did write that I had heard this rumour/story from external sources and no-one connected to the club.

I hope that the story regarding Martin O'Neill is not true, as I have said on here and in the Echo, that everybody should get behind the manager and the team for the push to the Premiership but if that rumour turned out to be correct then the question that is raised to me should then surely be asked to the people running the club ?

As I say let's get behind DJ and the team for the final 6 games and back them no matter and we can all debate and discuss at the end what we believe should or should not happen.

Thanks for the reply Carl. Just to clarify things a little, I was thinking along the lines of your update being, for some people at least, another stick to hit Jay with if he had missed the penalty - I accept that his poor form, his habit of staying on the floor after challenges and the fact that the score was still 0-0 would have been bigger factors in that though.

I still feel that your updates would get as many views and replies without all of the build up.

Agree with you completely as regards getting behind the team and manager for the rest of the season.
