If you read the next end of the sentence you will see it says: "His Updates Will Only be able to Viewed if your a Member."
So again I ask, Did anyone say no new members would be allowed??? NO!

The will or won't comment was aimed at you saying people were being made to join, no one is forcing them to.

I thought "We Will Be Locked" meant that the forum would be closed to new members. I still don't know what that specific phrase means, but apparently it doesn't mean what i originally thought, so i apologize.

He meant that only people who are registered on the messagebard will be able to view threads.
Anyone can still join, there's nothing stopping people registering.

There is still no decent argument for them to be made to signup.
Basically picture the scenario, you come here once a month to read about certain games, you've joined a month ago but forgotten your username and password as you never use them, do you a) bother applying for the password to be resent all the time, or b) not bother.
I know I couldn't be arsed all the time so I'd just give it a miss.
I've laid out a few reasons why I think it's a silly idea, you've yet to lay one out for why it's a good idea. What possible benefit will it being members only give the site?

I've never actually said it would be a good idea, I just don't understand what the problem would be IF it did happen.
So what if you have to sign in each time? I do anyway! You even have the option to log you in automatically, so you don't need to sign in, it happens automatically.

Again what about people who sign in from different places, not their own computers etc. In the other thread one person says he only looks on his phone but won't bother as it's fiddly to login. Some people don't like giving out personal details, so we are already excluding quite a few here now already, and I'm yet to shown one benefit of it? (despite asking numerous times).
I simply don't get why people are trying to fix something that isn't broken.

Well I'm not going to answer the question, as it is not me that thinks there is benefit in doing it. I log in at different computers. It isn't difficult to type in a user name and password. You can use the automatic log in from phones too, I do on my phone.
Personal details are not required, only your email address, and that is only used to send you notification of a PM. Nothing more. What personal details are you referring to?

Well a work email is personal wouldn't you say?
You are right it's not difficult to login using your username and password, but I'm sure we'll both agree that it's still slightly more difficult than not having to do it. You login here regularly I'm guessing, therefore knowing your username and password isn't difficult. People who browse from time to time will soon forget theirs (I can assure you this will happen).
Quite simply it will make it more difficult for certain fans to read about a club they support, why would anyone want to do this? Clearly you don't think there is any benefit, so does anyone else care to asnwer why?

Surely people shouldn't be using work email addresses anyway! All companies I've worked for don't allow you to receive personal emails!
My last comment on the matter is this, the people that don't want to log in regularly, only need to sign in once and tick the log me in automatically buttton - this means never having to sign in again, meaning no forgotten user names and passwords.

Wrong on pretty much every count. Most companies have a fair use policy, personal emails are usually not minded as long as they are limited, I've emailed loads of friends over the years in their workplaces, as I'm sure have you and most people here. You are being naive if that's what you think.
The second part assumes that people login from one computer, as I've already mentioned some people won't, so they can't tick the log me in automatically option.

I am obviously not wrong about your place of work, but don't say I'm pretty much wrong on every count, when I'm not. People have work emails for work and personal emails addresses for personal use. Not that it even makes a difference when it is only used if you receive a PM.
So other than an email address, what personal details are required to register?

Forgetting the work argument as it's pretty irrelevant. Would you not class any email address as a personal detail? Plenty of people can email from work even if some can't, even a personal email address is a 'personal' detail.

It's not like you are being asked for bank details, date of birth and Mother's Maiden name! It is an email address that anyone can get hold of online anyway, that is only used to notify you of a PM.

I'm a Web Developer I've got an infinate number of email addresses that I can use, even if I didn't, I still wouldn't have a problem using it. However to think that people won't is wrong. I create ecommerce websites for a living, and come across people on a daily basis that don't won't to supply any details over the internet.
Either way my original point still stands, you are still making it more difficult for people to view the content, all for no benefit that either you or I can see.

I give up. I really don't see that ticking a box is difficult.
Maybe you could lend some of your infinite email addresses to those that don't want to give any 'personal' info out![]()
