It's difficult, as they all referee to different standards, so some will be sending players off while others give yellows and sometimes just a telling off, like Beckham's flick.

So wins for Mexico and South Korea in the first round of matches in Group A.
Group B tonight.
Canada play Bosnia at 8pm in Toronto, followed by USA v Paraguay at 2am in Inglewood (California).

The South Korea game was well worth watching, didn't think it would be but it was quite exciting & end to end for a lot of the match.

Was a bit surprised they took Son off straight after going 2-1 up but guess they wanted to save him for upcoming games.
Heard that South Korea weren't expecting to do well so good result for them. Tough game next against Mexico but it they beat South Africa in their last game then they'll be in the Last 32.

Tonight is Canada's third appearance at a World Cup. They are yet to win a match.
Fri Jun 12, 2026 6:54 pm
Canada v Bosnia starting now.
Canada looked good in their friendly against us, that's all I've seen of them really.
Fri Jun 12, 2026 7:23 pm
Bosnia 1-0 up, Lukic with the goal
Fri Jun 12, 2026 7:35 pm
The ref is not in control of this at all. He's letting them (Bosnia) kick the ball away when he should be showing a yellow card & there's been a few non decisions.

I agree, there's been several occasions where they should have got a yellow but didn't - both for kicking the ball away and poor challenges.
They played in a very aggressive way against Wales in the play-off, it's obviously the way they always play.
Canada been the better team but not effective at all with their shooting.

The Canadians are doing what we used to do, playing great all the way up the field & then not doing anything once they get in the final third, like they get light headed around the box.

I agree and Paraguay beat Brazil Argentina and Paraguay before this game so it's a big big statement, hsts off to those players and team who will get stick around the world unfairly in my book because they are the USA .
The one thing you can say about the yanks they love there country and they play hard in everything they do.

Impressed by USA last night, probably the best performance so far.
But the big hitters coming up over the next few days.

I was up watching (well it was 6pm ko for me) but not near my laptop as I didn't think anyone here would be watching.
They looked very well organized, played some good football and deserved the win, and Paraguay are no slouches. Poch has them playing as team & they could go quite far, maybe QF.
Enjoying the games so far and especially the lack of time wasting. Makes me wonder how the refs will be come the knockout rounds as we're used to the leading teams time wasting with 30 minutes left, sometimes more.

Good point about the time wasting. Noticed a referee followed through the law of reversing a thrown in because someone didn't take it quick enough in one of the games.
You're right that the real test of that will be in the knockouts and final group games when teams need a win/draw.

Would expect Switzerland to comfortably beat Qatar in the first game today.
I think Brazil v Morocco has the potential of being a great game, two good teams.
Also looking forward to watching Scotland later, hopefully they can start with a win - today is a big one for them, win it and they'll maybe only need a draw against Brazil or Morocco.

Will try and watch as much as I can, only comes around every four years.
Seen some people on social media say they'll be watching every game, not sure I'll be staying up until 5am to watch Australia.

Switzerland 1-0 up against Qatar with an Embolo penalty.
Personally I thought there was an offside in the build up but VAR stuck to the on pitch decision.

Definitely looked offside but apparently they are using a new version of automated offsides which is accurate to the millimeter , I have my doubts lol

Half time & it's still 1-0 to the Swiss although Qatar can certainly be dangerous at times.

FIFA ain't fooling anyone. These hydration breaks are Purley for the Yanks to have adverts and make it look like 4 quarters.
