Mario Polotelli wrote:First proffesional football match was Wales v Russia down the Vetch early 80s.

My dad would sometimes take me to watch Merthyr when I was a kid but not that much. The 87 Welsh Cup Final stands out in the memory.

I did go down Penydarren Park when i was a teenager in the glory years and to look for birds but would never say I was a fanatical Merthyr fan.

My first league game was actually to watch the Jacks  My cousin thought he was going to make his debut at Walsall away so we all went along but he was 14th man and to make matters worse it was a f*cking nil-nil so never got the bug for them thank f8ck. :malky:

When I was 15 my first City game, was Hereford away - on the train. January 92. Drew 2-2. Took 4000 and it was wild day from start to finish. From that day was hooked.

First home game was Burnley (league leaders) a couple of weeks later. 16,000 there. Rammed in the Bob Bank. Bit scary at times getting swallowed up in the congestion but it was great!!! Oh we lost 2-0 as well but in those days who cares about the result eh?

"One man went to mow, went to mow a meadow....." a great chant thats never heard anymore .

Went a few more times that season but 1992 / 93 I really caught the bug with the Darling Buds of Eddie May team. I had myself a part time job and all my money went on casual gear and following City. Made most aways that season and dont think I missed an away after xmas.

Me and Nanny Mcphail who posts on here struck up a friendship that season that has lasted 20 years this year :malky:

Remember that Burnley game well we still had a chance of going up, after the game i was stood outside in the car park when a Burnley fan came running through with a blade shouting come on Cardiff where are u, i wanted to shout at him over here buddy, glad i kept my mouth shut. ;)

Away to Watford at vicargae road - I think it was either 1970 or 1971 - my dad was working up near London and took me up there to watch the game.

Toshack scored with his head if I remember correctly (1-0 city) - strangely one of the Watford players names sticks in my mind to this day - don't know why? maybe just an unusual name - STUART SCULLION (no.7 i think).

I was hooked after that - me and my dad down Ninian in the old wooden canton stand, bobble hat, rosette, hot dogs - Hooked !!!

43 years later, can i believe that we are actually going up to the top flight?

I just feel sad that we have to do it in Red - it just feels wrong!! but im still a city fan.

Cardiff v Man City 1961 I believe. A 0-0 draw and Bert Trautman was in goal for Man City. Caught the train from Rhiwbina to Ninian Park Halt. I was 11 and remember standing in the front of the Grange End with my 11 year old friend.

my first recollection of football was the much missed "trelai welsh v a team from penarth.my older brother played for "the welsh".my parents took me to watch.i was eight years old,and hooked straight away.in fact although it was under 12s i went on as a sub in the second half.my only contribution making a header which hurt like fook.my older bro was the star of the team who went on to play for the city a handfull of times, and have a good semi pro career.this day stands out a million times more than my first game at the city.

which was city v wrexham fa cup 77 or 78 i think.not a bad first game either.

anyway "up the titty"

the above quote is the inscription from my 3rd birthday cake.the old man was always wandering round the house saying "up the city".my mother reckons they were my first words i said just had a bit of a problem with "city". :thumbright:
