England cricketer Jos Buttler has raised £65,100 ($80,000) after auctioning off the shirt he wore in last year's World Cup final victory over New Zealand.

The shirt will be signed by all the players from the England World Cup squad.

Wicketkeeper Buttler is donating the proceeds to the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals charity, two specialist heart-and-lung centres dealing with the coronavirus outbreak.

Annis, that’s great news for Spain.
Hopefully if everyone abides by the rules the UK won’t be too far away either but there’s a sad road before we get to that I fear.

Footballers set up NHS charity fund

Premier League footballers have announced the launch of a contribution fund called Players Together with money going towards the NHS's charity partner.

"The contributions that this initiative will generate will help NHS Charities Together (NHSCT) quickly grant funds to the front line," a statement said.

There are no details of how much money will be contributed.

NHSCT chief executive Ellie Orton said: "It will make a huge difference to us to have the players on board and sends an amazing message of support. It will also inspire many others to give donations."

Premier League players had previously been criticised by several government ministers for not taking pay cuts during the coronavirus crisis.

English football is indefinitely suspended.

Stadium to 'replicate normal hospital'

Dr Stuart Walker, executive medical director of Dragon's Heart Hospital said: "Patients coming here will be those on the way to recovery.

"Fundamentally we are replicating what we can do in a normal hospital here.

"I’ve been working in NHS for decades and have been a medical director for years... we’ve never seen anything like this...this [coronavirus] is likely to be defining issue of my whole career."

Dragon's Heart Hospital is one of a number of field hospital projects under way in Wales.

NHS Wales has already outlined how most will operate as "step down" hospitals, with up to 7,000 beds to take the strain away from frontline hospitals.

The Principality Stadium will also though include some element of assessment of patients.

But most are trying to support patients getting closer to being back at home.

Venue Cymru in Llandudno, Bangor University's Canolfan Brailsford sport and leisure centre, Deeside Leisure Centre in Flintshire and Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli, are some of the facilities being turned into hospitals.

Remarkable Covid-19 Recoveries

Just to show it isn't all doom and gloom, here are some extraordinary examples of people pulling through...

One of the most vulnerable people who are at increased risk of experiencing the most severe symptoms of the Coronavirus those over the age of 70.

But there have been some encouraging and heartwarming stories of elderly people making recoveries after being hospitalised with Covid-19

In Oregon, USA, WW2 veteran William Lapschie celebrated his 104th birthday this week, after recently making a recovery from Coronavirus

The "resilient" 104-year-old man who lived through the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression and World War II has now recovered from the coronavirus.

He first started showing symptoms on March 5 and had been isolated in his room, but as of this week, he is considered recovered from COVID-19.

Lapschies recovered just in time for his birthday, his family said. On Wednesday, Lapschies' family surprised him at the veterans' home for a unique celebration. Since visitors aren't allowed inside at this time, they had a social-distancing party outside.

This isn't exactly how his family wanted to celebrate, his daughter Carolee Brown said. "We celebrated his 101 and had over 200 people," she told KOIN. "But we're so thrilled he's recovered from this and we just had to do something for him."

William himself simply stated, "I made it...!" :D

In Genoa, Italy a 102-year-old woman survived the illness, according to reports

In Iran, a 103-year-old woman has also reportedly made a recovery after spending a week in hospital

Fantastic for William and for the other two women. Best wishes to each of them and their loved ones...

101-year-old makes full recovery

The news at the moment is often grim. We're well aware. So hopefully this update will make you smile.

A 101-year-old man who tested positive for coronavirus has returned home from hospital after making a full recovery.

Keith Watson, from Worcestershire, was initially admitted for surgery on his leg following a fall and was tested for Covid-19 after developing a high temperature.

"Having gone in for the operation is one thing and then when we learned he tested positive we were thinking the worst," said his daughter-in-law, Jo Watson. "He's amazing for his age."

Mrs Watson said her father-in-law had gone back to his care home after spending two weeks in hospital and is "complaining about the pain in his leg", but "not anything else".

A Facebook post from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust with Mr Watson has since been shared more than 3,000 times.

This is the first paragraph of the article about Spains figures

The coronavirus has registered this Friday its biggest slowdown since the pandemic broke out and leaves the third consecutive drop in the number of cases, which reach 157,022 after adding 4,576 new infections, and throws another 605 deaths, the lowest number in 17 days, which makes a total of 15,843.

Pippa Erskine, 30 from Battersea, will be riding 100km this Easter Sunday to celebrate the third anniversary of her double lung transplant. She’s adapted her ride to be able to complete the feat from home, and is raising money for the two hospitals that saved her life.

Elsewhere, the number of people using A&E is way down, so either the nation has become far less accident-prone, or people are sensibly staying away from hospitals when appropriate to help lighten the load.

A small bit of positive news is that my loved ones and I are all well and coping just fine. I take my big ass dog out daily and then back home again. We have a garden so that is a blessing. I hope ALL my bluebird family are doing OK at this unprecedented time. Stay safe bluebirds :bluebird:

Same here re my loved ones. Wife’s had it but is ok now daughter is asthmatic so 100% in lockdown and my son is working on a ward in hospital (thankfully with good PPE). Not seeing grandchildren other than through a window is hard, but there’ll be loads of time to make up for that soon.

Russian banker donates £1m to NHS hospital

An exiled Russian banker who fled to the UK after being accused of fraud has donated £1m to a hospital to help its response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Andrey Borodin and his wife Tatiana made the "overwhelmingly kind and generous donation" to the Royal Berkshire Hospital to support staff.

The hospital said the money would be used to create a facility for staff to rest and access wellbeing services.

Mr Borodin fled to London in 2011 and was granted political asylum in 2013.

Force donates bicycle to nurse after theft

A nurse who had her bicycle stolen during a shift at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre has thanked police who donated a replacement.

Karen Udtohan, who works on the Covid-19 admissions ward, said after "a busy and stressful night dealing with a number of patients" she found her bike had been stolen from the hospital’s cycle storage unit.

“I couldn’t believe that people would do something like this," she said.Chief Supt Rob Griffin said: "During this outbreak, we all have a duty to protect the NHS and, as the police, we will do everything in our power to help protect our fellow key workers."

Two men were arrested for several bike thefts at the hospital on 26 March. They have both pleaded guilty and will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court later this month.

After she reported it to police, an officer managed to find a replacement from the force's fleet of bicycles, which he said had been "surplus to the force’s own requirements".
