I'm pretty sure the 'lefties' that you reference in every post aren't generally in favour of cutting social health budgets, privatising parts of the NHS and not to mention the council and NHS budget cuts.

Not long ago 'benefit cheats' were enemy number one. There seems to have been a switch in recent years where people think 'foreigners' are the route of all of our problems. This is clearly not the case, and no data supports this. Of course public services are going to suffer when the money is cut, and this is not down to a tiny % of migrants.

Net migration is running at 250000 a city the size of Cardiff being created every year. How the hell is that not having an affect on public services especially as migrants/immigrants tend to move to the same areas (usually inner cities) where local public services are already stretched to breaking point without the new arrivals.

I always find it is those who are not affected by the loss of housing, employment, health services and education who claim there is plenty of room here and we should let in many more and anyone saying different is a racist.

It is amazing how attitudes change when these people become directly affected. I always remember Tessa Jowell (Labour MP) being one of the let them all in brigade until an illegal gypsy camp popped up in here local village and the local school couldn't cope with the influx of new children. She was at the forefront of the campaign to have the gypsy's evicted as the 'village couldn't cope'. Amazingly the village was a 'special case' with it's unique social cohesion and the gypsies would be better off elsewhere (in other words in an inner city dumping ground well away from the middle classes).

Those who want more immigration must be more prepared to take more of the strain rather than dumping the problem on the same part of society time and again. In other words Owain you should be prepared to give up your house, community, work and see your children educated in a school which has 20 odd different languages before claiming others are wrong for saying enough is enough.

But I also know dialog and democratic growth is the answer. Common ground, unity and mutual interests. Not to mention humanity and respect.

I don't always agree with your points, but I certainly agree with this post. I am no expert on this subject, and probably know less than most who are debating it. One thing I have observed when visiting various parts of Cardiff and beyond, is there appears to be a reluctance with immigrants to integrate into the local community. They seem to be content with setting up their own community within a community, and are not interested in becoming one of the locals. I may be wrong, but from what I've seen, the local people who have lived here for a long time, sometimes all their lives, seem to be more tolerant of imigrants than the other way round. It would'nt surprise me if other people have made similar observations, but of course it is considered politically incorrect to mention such things, and the very possibility that such observations may upset a few people from overseas immdeiately results in that person being called a racist.

What we are presently witnessing in the UK and most other European/Western countries is a virulent strain of Wahhabism, funded by Saudi and the Gulf states, spreading poison throughout the West. Interesting that these countries are happy to fund the spread of this social cancer but unwilling to take a single refugee. I honestly believe Islamists are the biggest threat to our way of life since the rise of the National Socialists in the 1930s. I don't for a moment doubt your hearts in the right place but truthfully you are part of the problem, I'm sure there was plenty of decent honest Germans in 30s Germany but it didn't stop Hitler getting into power

I don't know how good or bad the state of Britain, but I'm sure this a failed government issue, and you are directing your anger at innocent people, even if some have bad intentions. What mr Zodiac says above, is an interesting observation. I wrote a paper on it in uni, but I didn't find any resistance to integrate. Although this is 15 years ago, I think some of the problems are the same. The government put large groups of immigrants in a confined space. They didn't actively try to integrate these people, but set the system up for them to activly seek it themselves. At the same time they recived benefits to support their living. Norwegians are not easy to get to know. It's not easy to make friends, or even apply for jobs outside your "class" They found comfort among them self, and didn't
have the need for integration. Why would they, they had their own little community. They didn't learn the language, and didn't learn our culture, and they neglected their children the same competence to succeed. Many of them failed school, both social and academic, and dropped out. I think have managed to correct it, and is now doing a much better job integrating.
Sweden didn't manage to do the same, and are seeing "the gettoing", violence and crime. I think this is a complex question, and I support many of the thoughts ,making sure the social systems don't collapse. It's a difficult balance. But I see it as more of government issue than a " plague" . And I still think everyone has a humanitarian responsibility.

I'm sure there are plenty of examples of communities that haven't integrated as well as they could/should have, but I don't understand how this is easy to observe. I'm genuinely interested in understanding how this can be observed, and how you would expect these people to integrate.

As far as the integration is concerned, I would say that is more of a general trend with society. Gone are the days where everybody knew everyone else on their street, and would pop in for a cup of tea for example. I don't think that has anything to do with migration, although it could appear that way.

Your point about tolerance is an interesting one, and is completely in line with my own experience. Generally people living in areas with a higher mix of nationalities and religions tend to be a lot more tolerant. The same theme could be seen in the Brexit vote, where certain areas with almost no non-UK nationals were heavily in favour of leaving the EU, despite having no real examples on which to base some of their views, other than the media.

Many towns in the North of England have parallel societies, Muslim kids are raised in almost completely Muslim areas, attend Muslim faith schools and have no interaction with "Infidels". Be accepting of our liberal Western society, abolish all faith schools and bring children up together. Accept that in a free society nothing is above criticism or being satirised, accept people's sexuality, stop blowing things up and beheading unarmed British Servicemen on British streets. I'd also like to see mass protests against ISIS by moderate Muslims.

Net migration is running at 250000 a city the size of Cardiff being created every year. How the hell is that not having an affect on public services especially as migrants/immigrants tend to move to the same areas (usually inner cities) where local public services are already stretched to breaking point without the new arrivals.

I always find it is those who are not affected by the loss of housing, employment, health services and education who claim there is plenty of room here and we should let in many more and anyone saying different is a racist.

It is amazing how attitudes change when these people become directly affected. I always remember Tessa Jowell (Labour MP) being one of the let them all in brigade until an illegal gypsy camp popped up in here local village and the local school couldn't cope with the influx of new children. She was at the forefront of the campaign to have the gypsy's evicted as the 'village couldn't cope'. Amazingly the village was a 'special case' with it's unique social cohesion and the gypsies would be better off elsewhere (in other words in an inner city dumping ground well away from the middle classes).

Those who want more immigration must be more prepared to take more of the strain rather than dumping the problem on the same part of society time and again. In other words Owain you should be prepared to give up your house, community, work and see your children educated in a school which has 20 odd different languages before claiming others are wrong for saying enough is enough.

I don't always agree with your points, but I certainly agree with this post. I am no expert on this subject, and probably know less than most who are debating it. One thing I have observed when visiting various parts of Cardiff and beyond, is there appears to be a reluctance with immigrants to integrate into the local community. They seem to be content with setting up their own community within a community, and are not interested in becoming one of the locals. I may be wrong, but from what I've seen, the local people who have lived here for a long time, sometimes all their lives, seem to be more tolerant of imigrants than the other way round. It would'nt surprise me if other people have made similar observations, but of course it is considered politically incorrect to mention such things, and the very possibility that such observations may upset a few people from overseas immdeiately results in that person being called a racist.

I'm sure there are plenty of examples of communities that haven't integrated as well as they could/should have, but I don't understand how this is easy to observe. I'm genuinely interested in understanding how this can be observed, and how you would expect these people to integrate.

As far as the integration is concerned, I would say that is more of a general trend with society. Gone are the days where everybody knew everyone else on their street, and would pop in for a cup of tea for example. I don't think that has anything to do with migration, although it could appear that way.

Your point about tolerance is an interesting one, and is completely in line with my own experience. Generally people living in areas with a higher mix of nationalities and religions tend to be a lot more tolerant. The same theme could be seen in the Brexit vote, where certain areas with almost no non-UK nationals were heavily in favour of leaving the EU, despite having no real examples on which to base some of their views, other than the media.

Hi Owain, I'll give one brief example I enjoy making my own curries, and have regularly over the years visited the same shop to buy my spices, large sacks of rice etc. This shop also seems to be a meeting place for the locals, and although I do not speak Indian, they are nearly always heavily involved in converstion with one another. I am always polite and try to make conversation, but I am always ignored and they rarely can be bothered to make eye contact with me. They have plenty of smiles and conversation for the Indian population who live in this area. My wife experiences the same thing whenever she calls there. If I was a shopkeeper, I guarantee that I would treat everyone with common courtesy, irrespective of where they come from. The obvious answer is to shop elsewhere, but the goods I buy are not readily available in most stores, and this is a convenient shop for me. I make a point of saying good morning, thanking them, and saying good-bye, but I don't ever remember even an acknowledgement from them. If they treated everyone the same, I would say fair enough, but this sort of treatment appears to be reserved for white British customers only.

I did. I don't share your views of assimilation. Few people do, thankfully. Many of your points are valid, but I find them very unbalanced, and very black and white. Fighting fire with fire, only leads to more fire. Easy logic. But im I'm not telling you to bend over either. Just find a balance. And no, I didn't fail to address it..

Sure mate, I don't think of my self as one either..
But I think you are unbalanced because you don't look a solution for both sides. Finding one, you have to see the challenges from both sides, and the benefits. Failing to do so only leads to a fight.. Can't speak for Denmark either, but was referring to the world community..
