Well I have used this "Ghost Bus" several times a year for the last decade it only runs once a hour and every time it arrives there is a queue of people waiting for it, and considering how much a taxi to the city centre costs I can`t blame them.

Abolishing your language, absolute rubbish the language you call Welsh was widely spoken in many parts of Britian but died out and was superseded by other languages. Currently Welsh is being forced down our throats on BBC Wales, a noisy minority want everyone in the Public Sector to learn it, schoolchildren forced to learn it and they aspire to 1,000,000 Welsh speakers by 2020.

As Bushy Eyebrows says Welsh was spoken throughout the island of Britain. It was the saxon invaders that drove us west. Welsh was actually spoken in Scotland un until the 13th Century in the Strath Clyde region. Strath Clyde comes from the Welsh Ystrad Clud like Lanark comes from the Welsh Llanerch. Glasgow comes from the Welsh Glas (blue) Goed (wood). There are similar example throughout England like Dover from dwfr (water). The language was systematically culled by the English just like Gaelic in Scotland and Irish in Ireland both languages spoken throughout both regions. It's quite remarkable that Welsh is still spoken all when one considers haw it has been treated since our conquest. But it is still spoken and is making a major revival. 25% of the population of Cardiff now speak Welsh (it was less than 5% 30 years ago).

I thought the last official survey showed 11% of people living in Wales spoke fluent Welsh. While there may be a lot of Welsh speakers in Cardiff,I rarely hear it spoken when I am wandering aimlessly around the city centre.

Blue Gog your user names suggests your from North Wales, shwd mae butt, Holyhead Blues are all sound as F**k,not that I`m implying your from there, just mentioning. South Wales had a huge immigration of workers during the Industrial Revolution first for Tin until the USA banned importation of tin forcing the Industry to collapse, but then like a Phoenix from the flames came Iron works & Coal mining, the first Million pound Sterling deal ever was made at the coal exchange in Cardiff Bay for the export of Welsh coal. Bute Street had 60 cafes of different nationalities, Tiger Bay went on to produce a voice that took the world by storm who herself was a part of this ethnic diversity "Miss Shirley Bassey ". So the use of the Welsh Language was watered down due to all the workers needed from the Ports to Valleys.Steel is still being produced in Port Talbot my home town despite threats of closure, I`ve seen many people move in and out of the area depending on their employment in the Works which has only been a good thing despite the thousands of job losses at the Plant since 1980s. I`m proud that happened and added to the diversity and gene pool of us South Walians. Without any more Objective One grants from the EU due to the up and coming exit from the EU for the United Kingdom, I think the Sennedd deserves to be on a equal stand to the other members of the UK now more than ever. Our own Sterling notes would do wonders for tourism too. I can`t see a Tory Government increasing it`s budget for Wales at all Post Brexit. Here`s some hidden facts the media try to hide about the Sennedd achievements if anyone cares to read them http://barncymro.blogspot.co.uk/2016/08 ... wales.html the site maybe a bit Welsh Nationalist but they are hard facts, I`ve checked. Though wouldn`t it be ironic if due to the lack emission restrictions from Brussels, Westminster solves Wales unemployment issues by reopening the Pits. I`ll Be there, I`ll Be there, when Coal comes from the Rhondda, I`ll be there, I`ll be there, with my litle Pick & Shovel I`ll be there. :ayatollah:

Hi Steve my best suggestion is go watch a gig in Clwb Ifor Bach aka the "Welsh Clwb" now owned and preserved by the Singer Gryff Rhys, its always been hip to speak Welsh there, Gogs getting Babes with their secret dialect, it is not so noticeable these days but its my only tip to hear it spoken openly in Cardiff and you`ll get to see a few bands too, they do cover for all tastes if you check their listings. :occasion5:

Saxon invaders, culled by the English, dear oh dear move on and stop blaming England for all of the problems in Wales. Gaelic was a Highlands and Islands language in Scotland, it was never nationwide Scots Doric was the dominant language. A quarter of Cardiffians speak Welsh can't say I've noticed that. And the praise singing for the assembly above about thousands of extra teachers.....why are standards plummeting in maths, English and science in Welsh Schools then, are they employing the wrong people or is the whole system bolloxed. I have worked in both North and West Wales and met people whose first language was Welsh, I've no problem with that, my issue is the millions spent on trying to expand its use could IMO be far better spent on health, infrastructure, education etc.

Hi Jock yes I travelled to the Scottish Highlands and was impressed with the dual language signage on the roads,do you feel the same about that being a waste of the publics money?. The Crown Estate: This has a diverse range of holdings in the UK. As well as agricultural land and mineral rights, these include the seabed out to a 12 nautical mile limit. All profits from such holdings (including North Sea Oil and Electricity from onshore and offshore wind farms) are passed to the UK Treasury. Then you look at the water supply and electricity supply that Wales/Scotland gets nothing from. Most water consumed by Merseyside and the west Midlands including Birmingham comes from wales. Recently Severn Trent water sold to Anglian Water £5 billion worth of Welsh Water and Wales did not receive a penny. that shows the sort of money wales should be receiving for the colossal amounts of water that gets pumped from welsh lakes to England. So we do give more than our fair share to the UK Treasury , and the The Barnett formula doesn`t include any of the above Crown Estate profits to effect expenditure in UK so yes I am Blaming England a little for budget cuts to the NHS and education. I also blame school children`s over using social media on smart devices for lowering their attention span but recent GCSE results compared to England seem favourable, although as you say Science results are dipping here`s the latest results from the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-37173969 . There has been a "Brain Drain" of Welsh Teachers to England for decades due to better wages, so I guess we are left with thousands more below par Teachers in upgraded schools thanks to the Assembly for this small blessing.

Interesting and thought provoking post. I've no problem with bi lingual signage in the Highlands I do however think it's a waste of money in Glasgow  I also see through the supposed cultural angle and recognise it's simply a way to promote division in Sturgeons Scotland. I don't like many politicians and the less of the self serving corrupt clowns between me and Westminster the better, consequently I'd like to see the assembly and the Scottish Parliment shut down, NI is different they need somewhere to argue abou flags and parades :D .

I could also mention Milford Haven handles 40million tonnes of oil, liquid gas and oil products, making it the third largest port in the UK and the largest oil port. The LNG terminal The regasified natural gas is to be fed through the South Wales Gas Pipeline to the national gas network at Tirley, Gloucestershire, has made it a market leader in gas distribution, putting Wales on the map in a global sector guess where does the money goes? The Crown Estate. Ports in Wales represent every possible port type and activity. The industry handled 54 million tonnes of cargo in 2009 – 10% of total UK throughput, and equivalent to 18 tonnes of cargo per person. The equivalent figure for England is 8 tonnes. Bearing in mind the UK’s position as the largest ports industry in the European Union, this is a significant total and makes it larger than, for example, the entire ports industry for the whole of the Republic of Ireland. So the UK Treasury as lot to answer for with its Barnett (squeeze) formula for distribution of wealth to its member nations of United Kingdom. How do you think England has such superior Infrastructure by squeezing all the Crown Estates profits to pay for them as well the politicians ridiculous expenses and second homes in London not in the consistencies they claim to represent, e.g Stephen Kinnock MP in the safest Labour seat in Wales my home ward Aberavon. He spends most his life in Copenhagen flying to Westminster on expenses, only turning up in Port Talbot when the media need a soundbite about the future of the Steel Works, how is that fair for the area he claims to represent, at least our AM David Rees lives here.

It's quite remarkable that Welsh is still spoken all when one considers haw it has been treated since our conquest. But it is still spoken and is making a major revival. 25% of the population of Cardiff now speak Welsh (it was less than 5% 30 years ago).

I have worked in Belfast and agree their Politics is complete different kettle of fish, the recent talk of a United Ireland post Brexit made me laugh imagine the Ulster Unionists losing all their Pomp & Power to be a third rate party in Dail that would never happen. I`ve also lived in Dublin for many years mainly during the "Celtic Tiger" period and my friends all race to Newry before the contractions even start so their child can claim dual citizenship and access to the NHS for life, but admittedly living in the Free State probably distorted my believe in the UK system and its history of unfair colonialism.

I think it's a good idea and would not vote to scrap it however changes need to be made. Currently we in Wales are represented by an extra tier of government that England do not have and our services and standards are still vastly inferior to our neighbours. For devolution to work properly Westminster needs to be weakened and every region in England needs to have a devolved parliament, federal UK is the way forward. We also need to kick Labour and Plaid out and get some real thinkers in charge because currently the state of some of the debates in the Senedd us truly abysmal.

Bushy, dear Bushy....forgiven, for you know not what you say..

Stopping English funding, Wales would be crippled within a month. No schools, hospitals, police - nothing, because no-one would be paid. The Senedd is a disaster for Wales, supported by a gog minority that no-one else in Wales has any time for, they slag off the English all year, then put out the begging bowl.

Clwb Ifor Bach is like being in an episode of Ivor the Engine - but without the laughs.

Hi Rumpo I wonder where you thought I mentioned stopping Westminster funding for Wales? FREE WALES that was a joke I`m sorry it was not as blatant or funny as your Ivor the Engine quip, great humour & a good opinion . This topic is about the reasons for and against the Senedd remaining to be in operation, judging by your Ivor witty reference was Wales being so much better pre 1997 really? And if so can you answer me why? By the way when did your Welsh based family last pay for a prescription?

The Welsh government wasted tens of thousands of pounds on a Brexit legal challenge through the courts.

In my opinion this was wasted money especially as the people of Wales voted for Brexit.

Since 2010 the Welsh Government have spent £100,000 on potted plants.

The information is out there due to the freedom of information act.

The Conservatives have said they would stop this and the 5 Chauffeur driven cars.

No Assembly= No Wales. To be frank, out culture is pretty much dead, so if we aren't a political entity, we should just give up.

A vote to scrap the Assembly so also include a vote to abolish the national teams too. This is because we would no longer be a nation.

Couple of things, road signs aren't devolved yet, so bilingual signage comes from Westminster. Also, those who insist on quoting the Assembly with the language need to understand that the initial Welsh language act was introduced by the Tories in 93 at Westminster. Also, S4C came from from Thatcher and Westminster in the 80s

People seem to forget the ref in 2011 which was won 65%. Just saying

People point out waste by the Assembly, but what about Westminster? When the Assembly wastes money it's in he thousands. It's wrong, but true. When Westminster wastes money, it's in the millions/billions.

Finally, if we scrap, what replaces it? Many English regions now have devolution themselves

It shows the contempt they hold the voters in but heyho it wasn't their money...........it was ours. Time we lined these parasites up and beheaded them.
