Let the words of Harry Patch sink in.

The poppy is not meant to be something used as a political football by football associations, newspapers, populist politicians or anyone else. Whether a poppy is on a football shirt or not, whether you choose to wear one or not (and, remember, our forefathers fought for the freedom to be able to choose..) it really doesn't matter. Nor does it matter how each of us chooses to pay our respects. Put some money in the collection box or provide some support to an ex serviceman or woman struggling to cope with their experiences.

The poppy appeal is not about who can shout the loudest. Very often, empty vessels make the most noise..

Looks like there will be plenty of reference to the rememberance of fallen servicemen and women.

Most sensible post I've read on this topic. Everyone getting their knickers in a twist about this but many people don't seem to understand that as both england and scotland are going to wear poppies neither the FA or SFA are going to protest against each other so no chance of either team being deducted points. Totally different situation with Wales who could be deducted points if the Serbians protested about us wearing poppies. I certainly don't agree with the idiots from FIFA but I think the FAW are taking the sensible approach and showing their respects in different ways. :thumbright:

The Tuesday after England play Scotland they take on Spain in the 80th anniversary year of volunteers from Britain and other countries travelling to Spain to join the defence of the Spanish Republic against Franco’s fascists. Is the FA suggesting the England team wear something to mark this special moment of solidarity between our two countries? No, no
