Seriously - are you all stupid.

why are you getting drawn into a whose better hook on a swansea player v a city player.

Swansea have been in the prem for a couple of years now and established themselves well. No city player has any business hitting their opta stats. Its like comparing a Man Utd or Man City player with a stoke player.

If every player they have does not achieve a statistically better figure than their Cardiff counterpart then they should worry.

The only thing that matters this year is that we avoid the drop. we can talk about stats in three years time if we're still in the prem.

4 page thread - why bite and do it justice?

So you are admitting Canas is currently outperforming Medel then?

I agree, but flawed logic. Everton have been in the premier league longer than Man City, are you suggesting as a result Leon Osman should be getting better performance stats than David Silva??

Medel has more Premier League experience than Canas.

I notice this thread wasn't pulled up against Fulham, when Medel and his stats were outstanding. :laughing6:

Canas done ok today. He's getting quite a bit of stick on PS which is simply down to the fact Laudrup picked him instead of Leon who's played well lately and is obviously a fans favourite.

Canas looks well out of his depth.

Week 7

Medel was joined in the mediocre performance stakes by Canas yesterday. Too many stray passes and both having their passing accuracy dip into the high 80%'s which isnt the norm, however Canas did redeem himself with his defensive work which sees his interception stats rise after making 4 key interceptions. The other stat to see un apward ovement is the key pass stat. The updated stats are....

Jose Canas

Apprearances: 6
Pass accuracy: 90.3%
Interceptions per game: 3.5
Blocked shots per game: 0.5
Key passes per game: 0.3
Average pass count: 73.7

Total rating for position: 6.82

Gary Medel

Apprearances: 7
Pass accuracy: 91.4%
Interceptions per game: 1.9
Blocked shots per game: 0.3
Key passes per game: n/a (none i guess)
Average pass count: 58.4

Total rating for position: 6.68

Week 8

It seems like Medels performances are continuing to slide judging from the stats today, another week where they are all heading in a downward trend. Also one positive note for the thread is LEON was picked today and was his superb self. Not sure whether to include him or not in the comparisons as he has only played 3. But we have a games played stat so everyone can see it so I guess I should.

Jose Canas

Apprearances: 6
Pass accuracy: 90.3%
Interceptions per game: 3.5
Blocked shots per game: 0.5
Key passes per game: 0.3
Average pass count: 73.7

Total rating for position: 6.82

Gary Medel

Apprearances: 8
Pass accuracy: 90.1%
Interceptions per game: 1.8
Blocked shots per game: 0.3
Key passes per game: n/a (none i guess)
Average pass count: 53

Total rating for position: 6.60

Leon Britton

Appearances: 3 (1)
Pass accuracy: 93.5%
Interceptions per game: 0.5
Blocked shots per game: 0.3
Key passes per game: 0.3
Average pass count: 61.8

Total rating for position: 6.58

Week 9

Slight improvement this week from Medel which isnt saying much after his last outing. Mostly staying the same, one stat going down slightly (interceptions) and one going up slightly (overall rating).

Game passed him by yet again today, im afraid these stats are backing up exactly what ive been saying. His price tag and bad boy rep has caused fans to hype him as are all cult heros of this nature. The facts are hes been distinctly average at best.

Jose Canas

Apprearances: 6
Pass accuracy: 90.3%
Interceptions per game: 3.5
Blocked shots per game: 0.5
Key passes per game: 0.3
Average pass count: 73.7

Total rating for position: 6.82

Gary Medel

Apprearances: 9
Pass accuracy: 90.1%
Interceptions per game: 1.8
Blocked shots per game: 0.2
Key passes per game: n/a (none i guess)
Average pass count: 51.7

Total rating for position: 6.63

Leon Britton

Appearances: 3 (1)
Pass accuracy: 93.5%
Interceptions per game: 0.5
Blocked shots per game: 0.3
Key passes per game: 0.3

Britton and/or Canas to play tomorrow.

Or helpful to your cause you mean?

I would just start from week 10, the historical data is of no requirement to the thread other to show that Medel has never consistently, indeed rarely, out performed Canas.

Medel bitch slapped Canas in the face therefore he is automatically a better player ;)

Most top clubs employ performance analysts that purely deal in stats and data. Brendan Rogers a prime example. Probably why Haughton is in the relegation zone.

Dont know how else to phrase that. Seems pretty straight forward to me. Most top clubs, if not all, use date to analyse player and team performance this is done not only in matches but in training too even tracking how much distance is covered. Clubs employ people specifically to generate, collate and display this data.

If Houghton doesnt like to use it - then his dated ways may be the reason his team sits in the relegation zone.

Re: THE BATTLE OF THE DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER

Ok ive now seen the error of my ways. Different Houghton.

The fact he said it pretty much discredits it. When has he ever been involved in a club that uses modern say statistical data analysis?

Yep, my mistake.

Ill take Mourinhos need for a data analyst over Houghtons dislike of it considering hes nit even been involved in a club that uses them.

I'll take Houghton's dislike for stats over your love of them, considering you've never been involved in any club of aspect of football in a professional capacity.

Its not just mine though is it, its all the top clubs.

I dont think there is a club in the Premier League that doesn't use them as a big part of both match performance analysis and future match planning. I know you like an argument but surely you cannot disagree with that?

Ot isnt a case of Houghton vs me, its Houghton vs Mourinho/Wenger/Moyes/Rodgers et al.
