People say we got rid of history, got rid of tradition, like what? PLEASE TELL ME.
Our true amazing moments in history are winning the FA Cup in 1927 vs Arsenal and beating Real Madrid. Those are the only two glorious moments we had in 100 years of blue. Yes we got to finals, been to Wembley plenty of times but no one remembers the losers and that is a fact.
In blue we had 2 glorious moments which on paper we still have, just check our historic results. Most of our time in blue was bad. We had hooliganism run through the core of the club and build us up a terrible reputation. Ask many mothers a few years ago before we became family club of the year of their perception of the club and they'll tell you 'hooligans'.
There will be those that remember us for winning the FA Cup. There will be those that remember us for beating Madrid. However, most remember us as a side who were actively involved in hooliganism in its prime and now later as bottlers. Simple fact and you can't hide from it. We had a terrible image.
The only tradition we've washed down the drain is a bad image. If we go up this year in red the bottler tag is immediately gone. In red we have a chance to behave and prove ourselves as a new, fresh, reformed club that parents want to take their kids to see. Mothers turning up to take their sons etc. They may sit in the family stand but they're still paying to get in through the gate and the more the merrier.
Another fact is rival teams only remember the bad things other clubs do. When we beat Palace the other day we got called divers, time wasters and cheats. Thats because rival fans will always have a distorted view of your club. They will remember us for hooliganism and bottling it, not winning the FA Cup or beating Madrid. That is something only us bluebirds hold close to our hearts because we have an affinity with the club that can't be matched. Thats why we follow the bluebirds, the bond runs deep.
Our image was appalling and to move on in a business sense you must have a good image. Tan realised that so changed things up so that a decade or so down the line the club is known by more people as a nice place to come and that means more away fans through the gates as well.
Look at how many people cant be bothered with bubble trips, even some on here, just because they're too much effort and the police treat you like animals.
The fact is, Tan knows deep down its all about image but he cant come straight out and say 'because of the hooligan past' and use that as an excuse. It will turn fans against one another worse than whats happening now. Fans who weren't involved in hooliganism will be blaming those who were for the rebrand if he did. He would be alienating an entire section of his fan base, his customers.
Hes not an idiot. The guy is a genius. He has taken all the flack for it and made himself look the bad guy. This way only a very small minority will not go. In time, when we do well peoples views of Tan will change and as a new chapter in the history of Cardiff City is written, people will move on.
Perception changes because its human nature to judge a book by its cover.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales ... -32195152/
You want to know why? Because the die hard fans who used to cause trouble have stayed away and the newer fans have seen a red club, a club wanting to change for the better, a club winning family club of the year awards, so they turn up and take their places. These new fans bring more fans through word of mouth. 'Great day out down the City, no trouble down there anymore like there used to be' etc. and more people give them a chance.
Sorry to have to say it but hooliganism set this club back many years in terms of a business sense. In business image and customer relationship is everything.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballna ... -28983656/
People read the shit above and don't take their children or buy their children merchandise. Far safer to let their children watch Sky Sports than risk them getting caught up in trouble down the stadium.
Its a hard truth we must all come to accept. We have had our times making Ninian intimidating, calling football players of rival teams names as they take a throw in, lighting flares in the grange end but we need to move on for business reasons. If we are ever to capitalise on our reach we need to change people's perceptions of the club and like it or hate it, Tan has done everything 100% spot on so far. He has changed the image on the eye i.e. the kit and badge, he has got the local community more involved, people like Jenkins have come up with good ideas to engage the community, the club has won awards, papers have said how nice a day trip it is. People read and see this and it changes some of their views of us.
Rival football fans opinions dont matter because they'll hate us no matter what we do. They have their club to support and that is not going to change. Its not them we need to please. The people we need to please are those looking to get involved with football and want a safe environment to go and watch a game and have a nice day out.

Hooliganism did not set this Club back years, thats also a load of bollocks. It had all but
died out last two seasons in Ninian Park. If your suggesting it kept potential investors away
for years? Show me the evidence.
Man Utd
Chelsea
West Ham
Millwall
Stoke
Birmingham City
Middlesboro
All had huge hooligan problems years ago. All managed to find Millionaires/Billionaires
willing to put money in. The reason Cardiff suffered for so long was because we have
spent so long in the dungeons, we were over the Severn Bridge, pretty far removed,
and we were a City synonymous with rugby.

You clearly didn't go to the Spurs game taffyapple mate. Loads happened. I was in the corner of the grandstand and there was police everywhere. People jumping over the white wall. To say only a flare was set off is complete and utter bullshit.
You're not another Angry Man are you?![]()
All of those clubs are bigger than us or based in London where they have a bigger population pool. That is a fact. Stoke are a bigger club than us whether you like it or not.
If you can't accept the fact that our hooligan image stopped many people going then you are deluded. Im not saying the blue is the reason but I am saying that you can see why Tan is doing it, to change the image and perception people have of the club.
You just think everyone should think like you and that is further proof of the use of the word 'listen' as if you have authority of others. I could argue with you all night but there is no doubt that since the red top was released that more youngsters in my local area of where I live are wearing it. Some kids who used to support the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool as well.

Tan OBVIOUSLY wants to attract more families etc to the set-up. The placement of
the Family Stand next to the Away fans was an obvious move to curb aggregation.
But for you to suggest 'people' still associate BLUE with trouble is, well, stupid.
Are you seriously suggesting that Millwall are a bigger Club than us because of their
'population pool'
If thats the case, so are Charlton and Brentford

taffyapple I know what you are saying and Im not saying its right but other people who have no clue about the club will not understand the same as us. I've told plenty of people before the change 'its ok to go down there now etc' and they still made excuses. This season though they've taken kids because they deem it safer. Maybe that had happened if we were blue still and they just felt the time was right but its one hell of a coincidence. Easy for us to see that its wrong but people do judge books by the cover and some people you can try to convince them that its fine but until they see a change right in front of their eyes they are still judgemental. Sometimes drastic action is the only thing that will sway these people.Tan OBVIOUSLY wants to attract more families etc to the set-up. The placement of

But for you to suggest 'people' still associate BLUE with trouble is, well, stupid.
People associated the image of the club with hooliganism before and that is something we can't deny. Our blue kit was part of that image and we can't deny that either. Are you seriously suggesting that Millwall are a bigger Club than us because of their
'population pool'
If thats the case, so are Charlton and Brentford
I said 'or'.
A London club or bigger than us. Manchester United are bigger than us. Millwall aren''t but they are based in London. I didn't say they are. Learn the difference between 'or' and 'and'.
Im not going to continue debating this because I know for a fact image is everything and the red has changed some peoples perceptions of the club and i've seen it first hand with people i know. I know of two Liverpool season ticket holders who are now Cardiff City season ticket holders and they bought them the beginning of the season. HIs son has all Cardiff stuff for Christmas as well so its not as if they're just doing it to see Liverpool either. Our club is going through a strange period of transition and not everyone thinks in the same way us lot on the forum do. It would be nice if they did because maybe we'd still be playing in blue then but they dont and we just need to accept that.

THAT is ridiculous. Because if these family types associated the colour BLUE with hooliganism...
surely the very name Cardiff City would still put them off.

No i am suggesting and I know that the change of image has meant peoples perception of the club has changed. The kit and badge was part of the clubs image dont forget so to say it hasn't contributed is ridiculous. I know for a fact it has. If you can't accept that then thats your own problem. You fail to read things properly hence you never get the points.

You are without a doubt the stupidest person I have ever conversed with so congratulations on that front. New year, same old taffyapple.
Anyways, again you are missing the point. WE KNOW AS LOYAL FANS THAT THE CLUB MADE CHANGES BEFORE THE REBRANDING. However, those who don't follow the club so closely will not pick up on everything however news such as Cardiff City have changed from blue to red was in almost every national newspaper going so its pretty frigging hard to miss. That then means they are aware of the changes at the club.
Anyway im fed up of talking about it because I know the truth and you always think you know better. When im back in Cardiff ill meet you for a pint and ill bring my mate, an ex Liverpool fan who now supports Cardiff City because of the change to red. I love how you assume to know everything going on in peoples lives. I wouldn't have created this thread if I didn't know of families whos perception of the club had changed since the rebrand.
