Re: POLL - SPAIN v ARGENTINA - WORLD CUP FINAL

Half-time and all square

Both sides have had opportunities l, but for me, Spain have had the better of the play

Going to be an interesting second half and I’m rooting for the Spaniards to lift the World Cup

HALF-TIME SCORE: SPAIN 0 - 0 ARGENTINA (45+4 minutes)

I must be getting old, as I’m enjoying Wayne Rooney’s punditry alongside the excellent Micah Richards (and some ex goalie who now sells shampoo) :laughing6:

Half-time show has started and I think they subbed Spain and Argentina in the second half for the Greenbay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the NFL :laughing6:

Wayne Rooney, when asked what he thought of the half-time show: “Crap!

Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez is sent off for a crazy tackle that drew a second yellow that (for me) should have been a straight red! :o

LATEST SCORE: SPAIN 0 - 0 ARGENTINA (90+3 minutes)

I agree, he was looking at him for a few seconds lining him up for the free hit

A super free kick is saved by EMI Martinez right at the end of 90 minutes, so the game goes to Extra Time

Fernandez was only the 4th player to be sent off in a World Cup Final; but three of those have been Argentinians (starting with Rattin @ Wembley in ‘66)

SCORE @ 90 MINUTES: SPAIN 0 - 0 ARGENTINA (90+8 minutes)

Yes, and the first card was because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut minutes before!

Never a good thing for you or your team when it comes back at you like that! :banghead:

Goal disallowed for Spain but I’m not sure there was a foul on the defender but sorry, not for me!

The incident with the goalkeeper Martinez was nowhere near an infringement either! :(

Spain should be in front right now! :thumbright:

LATEST SCORE: SPAIN 0 - 0 ARGENTINA (99 minutes)
Red Card: Enzo Fernandez (Argentina) 93’

The only winners out of this game are Spain for actually playing football, and Wayne Rooney for calling out the half time show.

Ref has lost any control he ever had by letting Argentina get away with their anti football antics & blatant time wasting.

GOAL! ESPANA!

A superb run, which was headed back into the path of Neco Williams, who smashed it into the Argentine net with the force of Phil Stant!

LATEST SCORE: SPAIN 1 - 0 ARGENTINA (111 minutes)
Spain goal: Ferran Torres, 111 minutes

SPAIN WIN THE FIFA WORLD CUP for 2026

Spain, who were the far better team overall, although the Argentinians almost stole an undeserved equaliser twice on on 120 and 120+1 minutes

Neco Williams scored the winner on 111 minutes after Arhlgentina had Enzo Gonzalez sent off for a second yellow card (that should have been a straight red in this tournament)

Congratulations to Spain! :occasion5:

FINAL SCORE: SPAIN 1 - 0 ARGENTINA (120+5 mins)
Spain goal: Ferran Torres, 111 minutes

Aye, had the argies won it would have been an injustice. Messi showed real class in defeat, in what will be his last World Cup, shame some of his teammates couldn’t do the same. Spain were the only team who wanted to play football last night and I look forward to watching Yamal, for years to come. He’s going to becomes an even better player.

France only decided to put the effort in as they were embarrassing themselves. As soon as the real France turned up, England true to form started to crumble. With no exaggeration France could have hit 10 in the second half.

Any of those misguided pundits who think this is the dawning of an all conquering England team need to give their heads a wobble.

As ‘exhibition’ games go, it was a very good one; and the England players got a medal (effectively bronze) at the end of it, which is more than France got!

France could/should have scored more, but they didn’t take the game seriously until they were 4-0 down @ half-time!

I appreciate you don’t want England to have any perceived ‘success’ but they scored 6 goals themselves, and were more ‘up’ for the game than their opponents @ kick off

Good on them, I say; and the only ‘head wobbles’ should go to those who think England didn’t play their part in what was the most entertaining game of the tournament! :ayatollah:

As entertainment goes, it was a great watch, I'm not denying that. You are right that England did play their part, the game could have been a damp squib, but it wasn't.

My gripe is with the commentators and pundits who believe on the strength of this freakish scoreline in a game of zero jeopardy that England have been deprived of their rightful place in the World Cup final. And yes they should give their heads a wobble. Such arrogance and self-entitlement makes it hard for a non-Englishman to wish their team well.

He didn’t show much class in running to the referee trying to get Cucurella booked though.

Classless and embarrassing from the petulant one.
