I don't think Malky wants to win this. Selected an overly inexperienced side, took Mason off for a midfielder, and now took Helguson off you another youngster. I'd have preferred it if we had gone for it

Assuming that this is virtually a do or die season for "Tan Football" I don't think cup runs are a good thing right now.

Men against boys tonight im afraid but its no more than i expected with the only starters playing tonight to be sitting on the bench friday as in conway, much, helguson, ralls so im not going to grumble and we can focus on the league besides this gave are youngsters a run out so it can only be a good thing, i dotn really want a repeat of last seaosn cup runs if it will mess with are league form tbh :ayatollah:

The whole of the back four picked up slight knocks on Saturday apparently and with 8 players away on International duty, Malky has still chosen a team that he must have thought could do a job tonight!

He appears to have taken Helguson off with a view to having him fresh enough for Friday and probably with the same thoughts with regard to Mason!

I still think Malky would like to win this match, as at the very least it will give him an opportunity to give the youngsters another run out against a football league team, rather than in their under 21's or academy leagues!

Like i said keith the only people who started tonight the 4players will probly be on the bench friday keeping the rest fresh good thinking if you ask me f**k the cup game i dont want a repeat of last years failings in the league coz players are over run with games or a smaller squad as players getting are knocks in cup games which means they miss league games :ayatollah: i prefer it like this me, if we had 30good first team players i would get it but we got 16-17 good players for 1st team rest are youngsters up and comming and 8 players away tonight as it is on international duty.

I thought we could afford to keep Helguson or Mason on for the 90 as we still have Velikonja and Earnie for friday. And seeing as we will probably play 4-5-1 I don't think we need 4 strikers for friday.

Plus I don't see why Whitts couldn't have made the bench, he did last year and he never seems to get injured anyway

I don't think there was any need to risk key players and fully agree with the line up. Great experience for our youngsters and now onto the serious matter of the league! :ayatollah:

Malky has clearly taken a lot of things into account and prioritised our league campaign, but I still think he expected and wanted to win tonight!

As for Helguson and Mason playing 90 minutes because we've got Earnie & Velikonja available for Friday, who are both away on international duty tomorrow night btw and may play a big part in their respective games and possibly get injured as well, this would be madness!

As well as that, if you think Malky sees Earnie as anything like first choice over Helguson, I think you've been sniffing something you shouldn't have! ;) :) :ayatollah:

Re: Official Match thread vs Northampton Town

Glad we didn't risk too many of our key players. Never like playing an Aidy Boothroyd side, they just bully you for the whole 90 minutes. Coventry a couple of seasons ago is a prime example. Onwards and upwards, 3 points friday :ayatollah:

Just thinking that Velkonja could start in a 4-5-1, then in the second half Earnie could come on to make it 4-4-2. From what I read they play well together and they could perhaps form a decent partnership

The only chance Earnie is going to get of playing much of a part in any of our games this season IMO, is if we pick up injuries, or we're umpteen goals in front of our opponents!

I think it's clear from Saturday's line up the way Malky wants to play and sad as it may seem to some, I believe that he only gave Earnie a run out, as we were only playing a friendly and we were winning so comfortably!

I can't see Malky reverting to a 4-4-2 any time soon and for that reason, I think Earnie will only be a bench warmer again this season! :ayatollah:
