Not quite the same thing in a way but the opening 25 or so mins of Saving Private Ryan, the beach landing, stunned me to the point of tears. Only seen it once in the cinema and have never brought myself to watch it again despite having it on video / DVD. It's the fact you know it happened thats gets me.

no chance baz for me it was britains hardest away days and tanks boys getting done by notts county at the cash point.
i burst into tears every time i watch it. being done by notts county could there possibly be anything sadder than that. I would have believed in the unicorn before i believed notts county had a firm

Some great shouts in here. Champ, Watership Down (the scene where he thinks his brother has died and he has a vision of his brother's spirit to the soundtrack of Bright Eyes), Marley and Me, bizarrely the end scene in Armageddon where Bruce speaks to Liv and, call me a pussy, but The Notebook is also really sad at the end when his wife's amnesia kicks in and one minute she's saying she loves him and the next minute she freaks out and says she doesn't know him.
