The old karate club? That has brought some memories back, used to be a great place. Once everywhere else was shut in town, you knew you could carry on drinking in there.
For me, there is a cracking place called the Busy Bee in Edinburgh!!! All the windows have been filled in with cement and for years my old man told me to steer well clear of the place. Then when I was about 21 curiosity got the better of me... Dear god!

The Goodies was a cracking boozer. Cracking clientele. Just no place
for a stranger.
Llanrumney Hall on the other hand. The only place where they used to
have Fight Night during the day... cos they just couldnt wait

anywhere in llanrumney !!
i used to put skittles up in the goodies in early 70s and the atmosphere was intimidating then, old man kept me safe. as got older used the fox in St.mellons and there were fights plenty in there too. nice to see some of the older blokes still have a pint on weekend in the Cross tho the card school somewhat depleted now!
When i go back to llanrumney we go up the Cross now and thats pretty tame to how i remember the estate. best tho the goodies, problem was with strangers, they just assumed you were undecover drugs squad, so not too friendly to see strangers.

One afternoon and a feller walked in with his laptop, sat down with half a lager by the pool table.
"Alright lads, does anyone know where Newport Road is?!"

Next second his laptop was thrown
out the door and "scuse me mate, is that your Vectra on fire outside!"

Christ.....saw the thread, with 70 replies. Never expected this answer to be third post, but absolutely the right answer. Unless further down, someone mentions The Windsor in Bary in its hey day!
16 years old in 1976, stag do to Newport from Barry. It was a journey of four camels and 10 water bottles then. A real excursion. Some nutters from Barry were front page news them days and a few were on the bus.
1st stop was the New Found Out in Cambrian Road. Opposite where the Wetherspoons by the train station is now. Walked in and there were men smashing each other with pool cues (proper smashing, not dicking about). Pool balls everwhere, crashing against the walls. Toe to toe in each corner. Only sold rough cider from the barrel and whiskey, rum. Meyhem! And the locals barely looked up at it all.
The toilets were flagstones and you had to splash you way in........and in the corner was an old tramp, frying sausages on a brazier!!
I've loved Newport ever since!! 'kin Nuts!

Ah the Llanrumney Hall . Is it still open?. Defo a very very rough pub. It once belonged to Captain Morgan the pirate. My mates old man renovated it nearly 30 yrs ago . He reckons it cost them a fortune in plant and materials getting nicked . I remember my brother laughing at the barman wearing a dickie bow . He replied by saying he got strangled by his tie the night before

only been in there twice, fecking loons in there. Remember pulling up outside my mate had to pop in . While I was sat in his van , I seen some drunk guy stab some another guy right outside . Guy had a gaping hole under his armpit while the attacker tried to do him again. There's been a few shootings in there as well.
Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:27 pm
My old mate got stabbed through the guts with a samurai sword in there.
Managed to half kill two lads just before he passed out. Hello of a bloke.
Streetfighting legend. No names though.
