It was not until we were conquered by England, because they feared us so much, that WE were able to have an impact on the world.
Since then the WELSH have been major explorers, scientists, politicians etc - I do wish we could have done it alone but I do chuckle that the English made it happen!!
For such a small country we have had a significant impact on the world!!
And for Nationalism - no thanks !!

Here here pal, here f*cking here.
Best post on here, be proud of what we have achieved not what can drag us down for the future generations. We may be over shadowed by England on a global stage but by f**k we are more appreciated and respected. If we were independent we would be like any other country in Europe. England puts us on the map and by f**k do we take advantage of that.
Long may that continue I say.

That's not entirely correct, as the Celtic Church was quite significant, and people like St David and St Patrick (he was probably Welsh, although there's ironically a question mark over St. David) did have a significant impact on the dark ages.
However, what is true is that prior to 13th Century (when the English invasion occured), not that many explorers, scientists or politicians did make a huge mark on world history - well, at least not since the days prior to the fall of the Roman Empire.
I'm not that Nationalistic myself either mind, but I do have strong Republican sentiments, but that's purely that I oppose any kind of monarchy, nothing to do with nationalism.

Die,
What I was trying to get across is that as a nation we should continue to exploite the fact that although we are part of the UK bwe have our own identity.
I wonn't bore you with an endless list of welsh people who have had amajor impact on the world as I appreciate from other posts that you are just as well aware as myself.
I have nationalistic views views myself but they, will remain on the sportsfield and nowhere else. I tend to think of engalnd as our strongest ally and we will always be there when they need us![]()

Politicians come and go, they gain power for their "Clubs" (Conservative/Labour etc), write their books and gets lots on money for doing so.
The "Royals" love them or hate them, do give us a form of stability which you will not find anywhere else in the world. They can pull the Nation together, this was shown with the recent celebrations and do remind us of our sense of togetherness.
I appreciate that they have a life of luxury and that people do question their worth but I would not fancy their job - money yes - job no!!

I know we have been mistreated over the centuries, but that is no reason for such non stop anti english animosity. The valleys are the worst for this, the uneducated drift towards right wing politics as it caters to their petty little beliefs perfectly while involving little thinking
Why do you insist on calling it Nationalism, its Republicanism. Hitler was a nationalist, there is alot of difference between the 2 if you bother to learn or respect it...........

Dont be such a drama queen.
I'm a nationalist. But I have English relatives and friends and love them to bits.
Have you ever considered that the reason some may want independance might be
because they would prefer to run their own affairs, wipe their own arses and make
decisions about their own country IN their own country.

Whats anti-English about that??

Precisely, we are achieving so much on the world stage for a country our size under the British umbrella. If Wales was independent there would be little to differentiate us from other small European countries like Albania and Luxembourg.

I would love Wales to be comparable with Luxembourg from a economic standpoint. Luxembourg has the 2nd highest per capita GDP in the world. A country with low inflation, loe unemployment and reasonable growth as compared the rest of europe.
Surprising what can be achieved even from a small country. Albania on the other hand![]()

Irrespective of anything. Thats a ridiculous post. Have you never left Wales??
Nobody knows who we are or where we are.
Even most Europeans think Wales is a part of 'England'
Scotland they've heard of, Ireland they've heard of.
Wales.. I just get quizzical looks and a polite blank look when I explain myself (and I always do)
