I'm sure in due course, such things will be outlawed, as cock fighting and bear baiting have been.

I know some of the posters above are clearly just trying to be deliberately stupid, so I discount those comments, but there are obviously millions that still watch the terrible thing - I suppose what we need is more people speaking out against it, and over time more and more people who now watch it will see how cruel it is and it will ultimately be stopped.

So I asume you have the same problem with people who keep Dogs, especialy the ones who keep them indoors all day whilst at work.

People who Fish.

People who keep Hamsters, Gerbils and Rabbits in small hutches in back gardens outside of their natural habitat.

Isnt this equaly as cruel. Keeping them somewhere they dont want to be.

Going on your basis of your problem being that your main problem is that people get pleasure from the race Im guesing its fair to say that somebody who enjoyed a Chicken Madras on a Big Mac last night equaly disgusts you.

As lets remember, those two animals would have been bred to be KILLED for somebodys pleasure to eat.

So what your saying is its ok to mass breed cows, chickens and pigs in terrible conditions to be slaughtered to eat for someones pleasure, but god forbid a horse to be bred to race just in case it gets injured.

Horse Racing will never be banned cos the percentage of people against it in miniscule and people like those on thise thread
are the types who pipe up once a year after the Grand National and wont be seen again toll next April.

My advice to the goody two shoes go to next years national and protest.

Stand in front of Beechers and try and "Save" the horses

Would make for more entertainment.

There are 2 separate arguments here :

1. Is it morally right to kill an animal for food.
2. Is it morally right to use animals for entertainment when its patently obvious that fatalities and suffering are highly likely.

Some people may be fine with both, some may be fine with one and some may have moral problems with both.

I don't think that antone can say that the argeuments are exactly the same though.

As for people keeping animals in inappropriate conditions, I think that's a more appropriate and logical argument - the answer as far as I'm concerned is down to proportionality - as if there are relatively minor problems -

i.e. an animal being on their own for a small amount of time but having a very comfortable life generally, then I am fine with that - if an animal spends 99% of the time cooped up in inappropriate conditions or a battery farm then it's a no-no for me.

Thanks at least for a sensible post and argument as opposed to some of the tedious and puerile posts (and highly predictable) of some on here.
