Annis did try his best but the Merthyr fans wanted a say in how things were run, and as Annis said if he was buying it, he was going to run it. In all fairness to the Merthyr fans mind (and I'm no big fan of Trusts) at least they put their money where their mouths were and backed their plans up financially and it appears to be making steady progress.

But I'm with Annis here, if I was putting the money up, I'd be saying this is what I want to see as well.

I think you'll find Adam Brown may see things differently mind, but is that going to spurise anyone. :ayatollah:

Well the malaysians are putting millions of pounds into cardiff city but if they dont allow fans a say into the running of the club they get labelled dictators?? Whats the diference here>?

THIS

I would never have changed their badge/colour etc.
The Trust never saved them in the end, the Merthyr Council put hundreds of thousands of pounds in to the club on condition when Merthry dont play all their facilities are used for the community.

I'm not allowed on here am I? Annis, I think it was all to do with not wanting to be done over again, not that I'm implying anything as you know we'd had so much shit! Tbh, if you said to me we run it and stay in NL or a backer and League 2 I'd rather us! Just my opinion!

Sorry why would I see anything different..? Unlike you Gwyn I was also willing to put my money where my mouth was on this project together with Annis and Dayo at the time.

One thing I would say and I'm sure Annis would agree with me is that the administrator was an absolute disgrace and as the Trust were the creditor who took the club to court then they should have applied to change the administator as it would have saved them money and a deal 'may' have happened.

However I do agree with you on what the fans were asking for and that was just as big a hurdle than the administrator himself. I'm also not a fan of trusts but each to their own I guess.

It was unfortunate the way things worked out at that time. However there were 'certain' individuals who weren't prepared to put their personal money in like us yet they wanted to tell us what to do with it. I won't name names but Annis would back me up on that.

The Trust are doing a fantastic job in all fairness but a Trust owned football club can only really go so far IMO. The club will find its level and thats it forever I guess.

Yeh I don't really know how trusts work but I would have thought there's only so much money a trust would generate and only so much money Merthyr council would put in so I agree with you Merthyr would probably find its level where as if a few business men with a bit of cash and also football men at the same time gave it a go maybe they could go on to bigger things possibly, maybe I'm wrong but that's my opinion.

There's no way the Trust would accept anyone taking over from them unless they really are cash strapped.

I know Annis and Dayo doesn't fancy it but I would see Barry Town a even better prospect because they are just one league away from European football.

Adam the thing with Barry is, there is no higher league you can take them! Yes you can get into Europe but how manny Welsh clubs have made it to the group Stages? It just doesnt generate interest! Llanelli v Dymano Tiblisi, there was less than 1000 there! I know its almost impossible but in football it isnt! A backer could take Merthyr to the PL, obviously thats a long, long way off  But even just getting to the 1st round of the cup generates interest over 3000 there for Walsall. IMO Merthyr is much more attractive than a team in Welsh system! But atm I'm more than happy with controlling our own club! :D

If Shamrock Rovers can do it then a top welsh club can do it. Even Barry themselves done a good run the year they met Aberdeen. Also what about when TNS played Liverpool and Manchester City at the Millenum Stadium..? You only need a game like that to pay for a whole season and thats without in income from the remaining games.

Tranmere knew that they couldn't compete against Liverpool or Everton so many of their home games were played on a friday night which ensured that both Liverpool and Everton fans went to watch them.

Also and this is even more key and why I think Barry would be better and that is I can see the WPL becoming a summer league before long like they do in Ireland and Shamrock making it to the group stages of the UEFA Cup is a result of playing in a summer league.

martyr wrote:I'm sorry I fail to see how you can see Barry have more potential than Merthyr!

because a summer league and/or friday night games would encourage higher attendances, a tie in Europe generates more money for the club than a one off game against a lower league team in the first round of the FA Cup, Now Newport has been turned into a City, Barry is the most populated town in Wales now so more potential custom, Barry still have a proper clubhouse which can hold weddings etc, shall I go on..?

The friday and summer league, people have no interest in Barry, we already have a big fanbase!
