And thank God you are not on the Barcalona board!

You would not of given Pep the job........ ;)

Shearer getting the job would of been a huge statement by the club.

Malky is much better than Hughton.

Hughton would have been lost at Newcastle if he the squad that Malky had at Watford.

Shearer would have been a big gamble. As i said, we dont even know what was
said at the interview. What he did making a press statement was wrong and
self-serving. On that alone I think we've had a lucky escape

The last time a big player took a mangers job was Roy Keane and he did pretty well with Sunderland.

Keegan did have any experience when he took over at Newcastle.

I'm not saying Shearer would be a failure, that would be daft, i cant see into
the future.

All i'm saying is being a top player does not guarantee success as a manager

Incidentally, Keegan and Keane have both had successes, but both have had
some shocking failures too

But as someone who has followed the career of best English player since Gazza the guy doesn't need publicity.

Like you, if I was going to guess, I would say he said yes or gave a strong hint that he would take the job and then backed out.

Lack of experience?

Played under legends like Keegan, Robson and Kenny.

Two spells as AM. Once with Bobby Robson.

How much experience does the new fav hav? One season with Watford?

Good player yes ..Legend?? No!! How can you say that?!? He was selfish in the final 3rd and Bellers used to scream at him to pass the ball!! If he had done more often, then bellers wouldve been THE NEWCCY LEGEND!!
Lineker prob the best player england ever had

Shearer is a legend.

Carrried Blackburn to the title.

World class in Euro 96.

15 million pound transfer.

30 goals in 63 games for England.

Got 30 plus league goals in 3 seasons in a row.

130 goals in I71 games for Blackburn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

200 goals in 400 games for Newcastle!

Yep, legend!

But done nothing as a manager and his 8 games in charge at Newcastle he won only
one game, so his 'motivational' skills hardly stood out. Thats the whole issue here.
I would have been gutted if he'd got the job

Cardiff City is a great club and I wish them every success next season."

its interesting carl that dato did all the negotiating which proves that the two amigo's gethin and alan have totally failed in their efforts to secure a manager.
Not bad news in my opinion as we needed a manager here for the long run who needs to rebuild the club and squad from the bottom up and shearer with even a small amount of success would have been instanly linked with the newcastle job and promotion would have had the english press baying for him to be appointed england manager.
For me its back to Hughton or de matteo now as you and i know all sorts of rules have been broken in pursuit of other managers.
Frankly this leaves the club in a mess at the moment and hopefully a lesson should be learnt here and there should be a director of football appointed to oversee all football matters because to be brutally honest this has exposed gethins lack of experience or knowledge of all things football and he should be just allowed to run the clubs business side of players contracts and the commercial side .

Have you two not read what some of the Watford fans have said about MM on the forum?

My last reply was someone who said Shearer wasn't a legend as a PLAYER!

I could list a number of players that have worked into jobs with being managers and getting success.

And he did nearly save Newcastle Utd! It came down to one goal!

And in those games they play Chealsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Villa - All finished in the top 6 that year and he had Stoke away.

This is nuts feller.

Listen. If Shearer HADNT had been a 'great player' and 'legend'...

Would you have given the Cardiff City job who's only managerial experience
reads: P 8, W1, D2, L5.. relegated, and who has not managed a club for
two years!

My post about Shearer being a legend as a player was a reply Alphonix saying he was not.

You can keep looking at it in black and white.

Forget about that 4 of those games were against top 6 sides.

Forget about the fact that the club was dead and buried, but Shearer almost turned it around.

Forget that Hughton did even worse. Under Hughton Newcastle lost to Hull at home!!!!!!!!

And knowing what I know about Shearer, I was happy about him getting the job because....

* He doesn't take any shite.

* You know the board will back him.

Think you've the directional sense of Tank, tbh, given this is a Cardiff board...

How exactly did Shearer "almost" turn it around with a whopping 5 points out of 24?

How many shots of target did YOUR club have against Villa? Wonderful motivation there by the legend. If you'd watched the game you'd have known that.

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 6:07 pm

Christ, I forget that they were on form when Shearer had taken over......

And if Duff had not scored that OG against Villa then they would of stayed up.

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

So you keep saying.

Just remind us how many shots on target occurred in the remaining 58 minutes of that game, after the own goal where your team needed to score to stay up.

Still, that's what happens when you play a winger at left back.

Remind us also how many jobs Shearer has gone for since leaving that temporary Newcastle role. Is it close to zero? Ever wondered why?

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

I guess being a legend of a player you might want to take a break?

He turned down Blackburn and Newcastle Utd by the way.

Injury crisis new term to you?

Re: SHEARER STATEMENT

Wed Jun 15, 2011 6:41 pm

Riiight.

Didn't want Newcastle job due to the pressure - hmm, smell the confidence in his own managerial abilities.

Blackburn, Times claimed he contacted Blackburn. the Daily Heil claim Blackburn contacted him, seemingly the version you want to believe. And the reason? Because managing a football club would interfere with his other interests, namely the media.

there's commitment to a managerial career for you, eh? Two years on, still not got his full coaching badges.

Face facts. Ex players, making a choice to be serious about managing go out and do it. Your hero seems to be doing everything he can to avoid managing. Yet you magically seem to want him here

the malaysians have promised who ever they choose will have a 20 million budget ,but thats for wages aswell. but looking at the squad we have its only huds on tidy wages. so there should be plenty left for the transfers. as long as whoever comes in dont bring twatslike koumas in on big money and cant be arsed. we just need experienced championship players who can dig in for results where needed but can also turn on the class. we had a bit of class last year but know effort. i am glad bothroyd and chops have gone both useless, dont work for the team just themselves.

Nerd is back tracking again,

No one wanted him?

But maybe Blackburn and Newcastle Utd did?

Southampton also wanted him. I forgot out that one, but he turned them down.
