I do not know who we would get to replace Jay, I think if the new manager thinks the price is right lets .resign him. I thought until Reading scored he was by far the best player on the field for either side.

Its a difficult one and I can see the pros and cons! But I really think we would struggle to afford a player of his class so if we can keep him it could be worth looking at! He has a lot of unfinished business here and maybe a new manager could sort him out! It's tricky but he's a class act and to be fair his wage demands aernt extortionate when you consider what chopra is on! Sell chops, keep Jay and sign earnie!!

Perhaps DJs "motivational" skills had an impact??

Think the guys a superb talent and we should snap his hand off for £14k a week

I think we should move forward & start with some fresh faces who'll give 100%. What did our super strike force do in those vital final 4 games? 1 goal & they did'nt even muster between them 10 shots on target.Nah, glad he's gone & hopefully Chopra goes with him.

you could be onto something there, perhaps with a new Manager on board, a rejuvenated Jay could well be at the heart of the attack, tbf, £14K a week for a Target Man who has a lot of skill and pace is not much these days, when you consider how much Chops is on.

I'd have him back today.

Agreed the bloke is class at our level if he tries, but he doesn't he falls about and stops running. We built a team around him and were totally reliant on him, and he repaid us by playing shite, not trying and costing us games.

We need to start again with a new manager and a new approach IMO............

It's all over Twitter that he's passed medical and going to Celtic ????

Re: " Jay Bothroyd Agent Been Back In Touch With City "

Well let's look at it from a slightly different angle
1/ In the closing stages of the season we was live on National TV against Middlesboro, and Reading twice. And to be fair he was nothing short of shit awful. Any team wanting him would of watched him extra closely and most probably lost all interest.
2/ Given his track record and end of season performances i would say no Club will pay him 14k a week the only Club to offer over the odds wages to basically unmotivated players is CCFC. Is he worth 14k a week ? no he is not even worth what we payed him last season.

3/ I have gone on record as saying i want all four of those players that was involved in Drinkagate gone. And that does include Bothroyd IMO. When Jay wants to he is without doubt one of the very best in the Championship but he lets us down in the most important matches and it is time to let him go.

Sadly Jay Bothroyd epitomises all that was BAD about the Dave Jones years:

He is undoubtedly technically excellent, and better than most in the division,
but lacks moral fibre. He was scintillating at the start of the season, but of
course the other managers and defenders then make plans to combat the
threat.

at the end of the day Centre Halves were more focused and committed on stopping
him than he was on getting the better of them.

Hard work, commitment and drive would have seen Cardiff City in the Premiership
right now. Jay will never get to grips with the fact that it takes HARD WORK to be up
there with the best, thats why nobody is signing him.

Thats why we should swerve him

Re: " Jay Bothroyd Agent Been Back In Touch With City "

Despite his undoubted talent, we saw nothing of him post-england call up (with the exception of his goal against QPR). Part of me wants to believe that his heart actually was in it. That same part of me can't blame him for chasing the premier league dream (It is, at the very least, the 2nd best league in the world, second only to perhaps La Liga).

On the flipped side of the coin, its very cheeky to come back here, asking for much higher wages.

If he does come back, it has to be on our terms. We have to make a point of taking him for less than he is asking for (even if its just £500 - £1000), and we have to offer him a LONG contract.

If the club does decide to take him back, he will have a huge point to prove and a reputation to re-build.

Sorry, can't agree with you!

He lost his form, as he got injured, not long after he got suspended before the Swansea home game and IMO, he seemed to learn from being suspended against the Jacks, as he rarely picked up a booking afterwards!

To be fair to him as well, he took a fair few kickings during some games and got little protection from referees, who clearly didn't give him the benefit of the doubt, knowing his reputation for playing horizontal football!

Of all the players involved in Drinkgate as well, I believe that Jay who was reportedly not drinking, deserves a second chance!

Funnily enough as well, apart from Bywater, the players who played the worst on the day against Middlebrough and cost us 3 early goals, were our usuallly reliable Kev and Keinan!

There's been many posts on here about the fans imprisoned for the Chelsea match, where many posters have said that the punishments dished out have been too severe and that the majority of them at least, have deserved a second chance!

Well IMO, Bothroyd is one of those players, who deserve a second chance!

If he wants to come back to us, then I think we'd be mad not to snatch his hands off, given that he'll be a free transfer and that it would take 3-4 million, to recruit somebody of his undoubted ability! :ayatollah:

Its all about opinions mate!!

I just think he disappears far too often when it gets physical, and lets face it...
what else are defenders in the Championship going to do against him?? As for
him getting no protection. f**k that, hes over 6ft tall and a big lad, he shouldnt
be crying to the ref every time he gets bumped. Bothroyd would get smashed in
the premiership, and if he's not good enough for any of them...

I agree that it's all about opinions, but referees have also got a duty, to protect all players and I saw many a game home and away last season, where Bothroyd got little or no protection at all!

I remember being at Forest, when we started with Bothroyd and Parkin (who's a far bigger lump than Bothroyd) up front together and their centre backs, had their arms all around Bothroyd's and Parkin's shoulders pulling them backwards all game!

Neither of them got awarded one free kick, which was shit refereeing IMO! :ayatollah:

Scott Sinclair could easily move to a bigger club after his performances this season but has expressed his commitment to Swansea. Thats the type of players we need, not uncommitted players like Jay who are ready to jump ship as soon as possible.

He was exceptional in the first half of the season, I'll admit. However, once he got his England call, thought he was guaranteed a move to a bigger club, he stopped putting the effort in.

HE WAS A SHADOW OF THE PLAYER PRE-ENGLAND HE JUST DIDNT HAVE THE COMMITMENT TO US FROM THEN ON -SPENT MOST OF THE TIME ON HIS BACKSIDE!!! persnally i wouildnt take him back specially if we`ve got a new manager lined up with hios own list(chris hughton i reckon)

Regarding Jay's form, as far as I can remember Jay had a niggling hamstring injury second half of the season which probably restricted his play a bit. Its difficult to get into a rhythym when you're carrying something like that.
Regarding his contract running out I think the official line from CCFC was "couldn't agree terms". That's no big deal, it's a negotiating ploy on both sides. Why shouldn't he try to shop around to boost his stock, I would. Maybe he's had a good offer but would still rather come back and play at Cardiff. It's an easy trip to London unlike some clubs (some quite northern clubs!).
Yes there are question marks but remember that the guy is only 28 and still has some learning to do. He is essentially available "on a free" and if we can agree terms I think he could still mature and become a Cardiff great both in the Championship and the PL.
Can't wait to see what our new boss does :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

What I was told was that Sky Andrew asked for a wage of £14k per week for Jay.

Remember that Jay was offered £9k per week at the beginning of the season, which was an extra £1k per week than the contract he was on.

I am told that the club have turned the 'offer' down. Whether or not that depends on the new manager would suggest the strongest reason for City turning it down, even though this was not the reason given to me but there again no reason was given.

having had time to sleep on it and re-read this topic, i think i may have been a tad harsh and a few comments made have given me a better mmmmm, shall we say, view or opinion? anyway,
if the new govenor couls come in and sort out the problem we have at the club (drinking) and get jay back into form, maybe and just maybe, i would be happy to have him back
as posted he has to be one of the best in this devision when fireing on all cylinders
if we could off load the VIRUS, use his money to pay jay a bit more but not the 14k mentioned
then get earnie in to replace the VIRUS, i would be ok with that.
also get nugent and another proven championship striker.

but would all the above sort out jays GRAVITY ARSE ?? :ayatollah:

Re: " Jay Bothroyd Agent Been Back In Touch With City "

i dont know what to make of this....

He was a big disappointment towards the end of the season, but on his day he was class, even the goal he scored v qpr towards end of season... For the run in i think the whole team were poor, morale was low as we now know , no respect for each other or the manager, training wasnt going well...

Im thinking with a new manager , I think he could do well...

Hes free at the moment, who would we get as another ideal striker without spending 1-2 mil?

Im on the fence with this one...

We need to get away from giving players ridiculous wages....14k no chance he can come back for 5k, and flog chops as he's on 20k and worth f**k all of it!

Re: " Jay Bothroyd Agent Been Back In Touch With City "

Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:19 am

def we need to get shot of chops!

20k wages off the bill and a decentish transfer fee, we could replace him with someone or two... Wot sort of wages do u think earnshaw or tyson were on at forest?

would one of these be an ideal replacement for chopra? or should we aiming higher?

Re: " Jay Bothroyd Agent Been Back In Touch With City "

Jay has got great ability but how many times did he show a 100 per cent commitment last year. He just switches off in games and it's a shame that he does not show that commitment more often. I thought his best game last year was the Reading game and you question whether that was because he was in the media spotlight looking for a new club. If he was to stay and be more consistent then it may well be a good move for City. He has the ability. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
