Re: " Swans & CCFC-The Bigger Club??? "

I think Swansea going up, even for just one season, could have a huge impact on this question.
Currently Cardiff are the bigger club, but if the Jacks went up, how many neutrals or plastics in the South Wales (and beyond) catchment area would have their heads turned by the opportunity of premier league football?
A whole generation of Welsh kids could be lost to the way of the caravan.
Worldwide exposure to a Welsh club would bring interest that also could have a huge bearing to future growth and dominance.

Cracking question. Hopefully we will never find out the answer.

Griff you have answered exactly the way I thought when I posed the question.

Has been interesting reading through this thread as many seem to think a bigger ground, more fans etc makes CCFC the bigger club. I disagree. I think exactly what you think in your post.

Massive week for both clubs. You are talking about the future here, the past is over gone.

If the unthinkable for you lads was to happen & Swansea reached the Premiership this season what will that do to the future of the 2 clubs & its fans for ever more?

For them to boast of getting to the Premiership first & have the cream of world football visiting the Liberty every other week will surely end all banter & arguments about the 2 clubs?

I imagine you're daily lives at work & on here for example will be torture listening, seeing & reading about Swansea's top flight exploits but what I want to know is as a Cardiff City supporter would you still consider yourselves the bigger club?

Is it all about who's history is bigger & better?

Who's had the best attendances over the years?
Top of the League, Top of the League, we are Queens Park Rangers, and we are top of the league..................Sorry we won it.
CARDIFF are the biggest club in Wales, you can tell by the away support

Who's had the better players?

Or does it all depend on who reaches the promised land first?

Believe it or not its life changing stuff.

I don't think this question will ever truly be answered. I think its generally accepted that, as it stands, Cardiff is the bigger club for all the relevant reasons given above but there will be Jacks who will never agree. As I understand it (someone correct me if I'm wrong), the Cardiff-Swansea fixtures have always been arranged (through Police advice, the FA etc) in such a way that we're not both at home on the same day. If this is the case, how many non-travelling Bluebirds would turn down the odd opportunity to head down the M4 to watch a Prem game, particularly one of the top 6 for example? and likewise for the Jacks?
This may boost the attendance figures but it wouldn't boost the fan base or make the club any bigger. When the Jacks were in the old Div 1, I don't think that affected the then CCFC fan base one bit. Admittedly the media exposure was nowhere near what it is now but that exposure in itself would inevitably draw in the plastics and some neutrals but they'd be off again if the team failed...This is just my opinion but I think there are too many variables.

Personally, whether its a freezing Dec, mid-week away trip in the old Div 4 or a top of the table Prem clash, there is, will be, and only ever has been one team....Cardiff City.

Things have changed a lot since Swansea were in the old First Division. In those days you could just turn up at the turnstiles, and pay to get in. Probably a few of their bigger games were all-ticket, but I bet a lot of them were pay at the gate. Don't know for sure, because I was watching Richie Morgan's boys at the time. Pre :ayatollah: by the way !

Swansea's recent home crowds, like ours, are very close to being sell outs. Neither club has much room for extra fans. Hence the big push for season tickets. If either club does get into the PL, getting tickets will be much more difficult. Last season, when we were in the play-offs, CCFC were already talking about selling tickets in bunches for 3 or 4 games. It would be very difficult for casual fans to see many PL games at either ground.

Point that I'm trying to make is, would it really affect either club's fanbase ? Still don't think that it would. One final point, per head of population, Swansea's crowds compare quite favourably with ours already.

I don't see it like that. In South Wales there are not many floating areas with neutral fans. Most towns and villages are either Cardiff or Swansea strongholds where you could not walk in a pub with the wrong club shirt on. Both clubs would benefit from picking up plastic Man Utd fans from their catchment areas but there are not many floating neutrals around.

Massive week for both clubs. You are talking about the future here, the past is over gone.

We will always be the Capital City always be wales number 1 City.

However if the jacks are to achieve promotion before us, alot of plastic supporters god forbid might start taking their 8 yr old kids to watch giggsy and rooney at the liberty.

especially those on neutral ground beetween the two citys ad other places in Wales

It would terrible for cardiff city and the limelight would be on swansea . We will enjoy our day if we both reach the play off final and it will be a plaque in welsh history either way. and If we were to bat the jacks at wembley it would be out of this world.

My opinion is that we are the bigger club in the sense we have the stadium, the fan base and higher crowds etc, However in terms of recent success the gippos enjoyed top flight football in the early 80's and now may beat us to it again, so on the footballing side they would edge it but........ I guess determines how you class a bigger club and I would regard City as bigger than some in the prem such as Wigan and Blackpool etc based on the earlier factors. So its a tough one Stan.
