THE MEMBERS ONLY POLL

I voted yes. I don't feel making it members only would make it a closed shop. As Claire stated in one of the first replies, it literally takes seconds to sign up and would prevent lazy guests just floating rather than getting involved in discussion. I feel there are so many silent supporters out there who don't realise how powerful and appealing their voice is. Hopefully, by making it members only it will encourage them to sign up and post around more meaning we have more vibrant and productive discussions.

I'm not voting yes to shut people out, I'm voting yes to persuade others to get more involved.

However, I'm also of the opinion that on a lot of sites I refused to join because I don't want to give my details to just anyone, the fact is with this board I trusted Annis so I joined. As others have said by making members only you will only put people off, and if the idea is purely to stop people reading Carl's posts then they will just join and never post anyway?

I remember when this board started there were a lot of accusations of receiving marketing materials on other MB's (false accusations I may add) but this is one of the main reasons people don't like to register to sites.

Put simply I just don't see what this will achieve, apart from a drop in numbers.

What are the reasons behind making it a members only board??

I think someone mentioned earlier that it was to stop people from the other board (like me) reading Carl's updates.

bearing in mind the appeal for the academy that is now starting then you have to leave the board as it is because people will see the appeal and if they want to contribute they will register hopefully and then take a further interest in the board its self

Yes I .get the same problem on my Mobile ( admittedly it's a fairly ancient model now). I could never logon here when it was members only

carl,you will aileenate people by becoming members only,its better to let people snipe on here than behind your back,but this is just my opinion

I voted no because It would have a negative effect on the forum traffic.
