1970 at Swansea in the Welsh Cup Semi Final. We won 3-1. Went on a special train from the valleys, and when we got there all hell broke loose. before, during and after the game.

My first away was either at Hereford or Luton around that time, can't remember which one though. :old: :old:

He's not having a laugh because we did!
And i was one of them too.

You might want to try rereading what I wrote, 35,000 was the official figure & I'm saying there were way more than that squeezed in, I could hardly breathe at times.

Correct but you sounded like you meant the other way. And I wuz there too. :bluescarf:

Yes, it did come across like that (less not more) and I was there, too; ironically, my first as a season ticket holder

Adrian Alston was British, he is from Preston. He did play for Australia though. His brother Alec played for Preston too.

Hereford were our promotion rivals that season and we beat them 2-0 with second half goals from Doug Livermore and Alan Campbell (one of my all-time favourites), although they beat us to the title in the end!

The season started slowly with a (now legendary) lethargic fan base seeing crowds hover between 5,000 and 9,000 for most of the season. However, with the final home game of the season ironically being against our 'top of the table' rivals, the Ninian Park crowd suddenly exploded, as people wanted a piece of the first relative 'success' since the Toshack era

Looking back, that was a great Cardiff City team (regardless of the Divisions we were in) and they could play!

Days that helped shape a love and excitement for the club that still exists today :thumbright: :ayatollah:

WOw looking at that squad list the thing that stands out more than anything for me is that apart from Adrian Alston all players were BRITISH

My God how things have changed in such a short time :bluescarf:

Someone shouted ‘Aberfan’, and that was it, they legged it but about 3 were caught and slapped. Got to Eastville and a fight broke out under the motorway, ended up with a Rovers fan out cold..

There was fighting on the side of the pitch that game as well from the stand on the side..sadly, that was the game Hemmerman was injured and never really recovered. Afterwards, our lot tried to turn over one of those Black Mariahs... Neil Slatter was playing for them, as well as squeaky Ball..

I remember that black Mariah going side to side I couldn't believe it stayed up, I went with my mate in my car, turned off the M32 and it was going off all over the place, but managed to get parked up and kept our heads down until we got to the away end, brings back memories when I drive past as it's an ikea now

Manor Ground Oxford.
Jimmy Mullen equalizer one minute from time.
Only about 6,000 there, but a great atmosphere. We came away feeling like it was a victory.

I was there!!!
Mullen jumping in the fence at the end and Frankie and his mates taking on the Oxford end remain in my memory.

As I remember it the city fans was on the roof of something that looked like a bike shed, shouting abuse at the Oxford fans .At half time 2 skinheads invaded the pitch, trying to get in the home end, years later my mate got arrested with one of the skinheads Flyney was his name, and he had a string of football related convictions longer than your arm.

Can't remember much p issed up to calm the nerves, there was a few scuffles in the turnstiles ,all I can remember was being stood in the terrace, and some big lump next to me had a port vale tattoo on his neck,I was shutting it a bit ,but the mate I went up with ,pricey from rumney wasn't there, for some strange reason he liked to go in the home end ,then get escorted around the pitch hehehe mad days

That Port Vale guy got taken out by the Police in the first half, and turned up again in our end in the second. Toddy then knocked him out. At the services about 6 coach loads of Bristol Rovers turned up. We waited for them to go in, and one of the Ely boys got on their coach and knicked the big Union Jack flag they had at the back window..

6-1.. Ron Futcher scored 4..

Birmingham city away,September 1969.
Travelled up on a football special, thousands of Cardiff fans leaving new st station where I remember being met by more Birmingham fans than us,a city fan called peg leg got done over right in front of me.
Cardiff lost heavily in front of something like 46,000 fans,a 16 year old trevor francis made his debut that day.
