Man rescued from Pyrenees - then fined

A man has been rescued by helicopter from the Pyrenees after trying to walk from France to Spain to buy cheap cigarettes, reports say.

The local mountain rescue service said the man was found "exhausted, shivering, cold and lost" when he was eventually picked up. Despite his ordeal, he was fined 135 euros ($146; £119) for breaking coronavirus lockdown rules.

"We remind you once more. STAY AT HOME," the regional police tweeted.

The mountain rescue service said the man, from Perpignan - about 25km (15 miles) from the Spanish border - had initially set off by car but was turned back at a checkpoint.

Annis until we get 100% lockdown apart from those who REALLY need to be out this is going to get worse. Here's an idea, how about taking the names of people out and IF they are receiving 80% government money have it deducted per day.

Sorry but why total lockdown?
Shouldn’t we wait till as the Government and advisors say the”peak”arrives and then look at different measures then if the lockdown hasn’t be adhered to in such a way as to bring infections and mortality down?
As far as I know this is in 7-10 days and isn’t the virus acting as predicted so far?

Italy caught it to late and mainland Spain did and both advised UK to lockdown 15 days ago.

Sorry, but there's def. a need for some balance in this. For the 'UK' read Dr Neil Ferguson, someone who has a long history of getting things wrong. Other equally qualified people are now speaking up and questioning the whole lockdown strategy - it's effectiveness and it's long term damage to the economy. Before anyone starts saying 'lives matter', it's probable that deaths as a consequence of a global depression will exceed CV 19 deaths many fold. The major UK banks have said that 50% of SME's in the UK will go bust in eight weeks' time etc, etc. Apart from China [Hmm..] there's no evidence that enforced lockdown is any more effective. You cannot switch off a Nations' economy for months without dire consequences for years to come..

You've actually gone some way to justifying my post - anyone who dares suggest the lockdown may not be the solution gets abuse. I'm not certain whether your rant was aimed at me - if it was, it's mis-placed. Also I've never 'run off'.

Our country, the world is desperate to solve/stop this killer virus spreading, it’s not for people to be on their jollies and family days out.
Even the Queen last night asked everyone to stay in.
Some People in the UK are taking the piss, and so far me that calls for a total lockdown as those people are spreading the virus.

The world has never seen anything like this since World War 2, surely you can see how serious this is and that more measures need taking in the UK?

If I am wrong, why is even the Health Secretary threatening a proper lockdown?

Wreck less and selfish behaviour is happening every day by a minority and thats why its spoils it for the rest.

People are being buried without love ones to say goodbye.

Yes I am getting upset, because its heartbreaking and idiots are out there cycling, sunbathing in parks.

UK man charged after allegedly wiping spit on food
A man has been charged after allegedly wiping his saliva on food products in a supermarket in Dorset, in south-west England.

The 20-year-old wore a face mask and gloves when entering the Lidl store in Bridport on Friday afternoon, police said.

He was then seen licking his fingers before "purposefully" rubbing them onto an item in the store, they said.

The man was arrested and charged with an offence of contaminating or interfering with goods with intent. He is due to appear in court on Monday.

Police said the suspect was not displaying any symptoms of Covid-19.

Just one isolated incident prob got mental health issues. Or it's just bullshit. Some of you people will do anything to spread bad news and fear monger.

NZ 'idiot' minister breaks lockdown

Earlier today, New Zealand's health minister David Clark said he had been an "idiot", after he broke lockdown rules by driving to the beach with his family.

"At a time when we are asking New Zealanders to make historic sacrifices I've let the team down. I've been an idiot," he said.

His resignation was rejected, but he has been been demoted in cabinet rankings and also lost a secondary position of associate finance minister.

Sweden's decision to not lockdown appears to have backfired badly on them. Monday of last week they were getting the plaudits. Now its gone up 6 fold in 8 days and only now will they try and control the spread. I don't know how we get out of this but allowing this to go unchecked is playing Russian roulette with your countries citizens.

Local Government Minister Julie James said there were still concerns about people visiting second homes.

Giving the Welsh Government's daily update, she said: “In north Wales we’ve had reports of people visiting their holiday homes which caused some local contention."

Officers at a road block in Newport said they stopped three men in a Mercedes making a round trip to London.

The men, who were warned by officers, said they were visiting their cousin.
