The best thing to happen under Slade 2.0 is we clear the decks get rid of the deadwood and not make many signings.

Then hopefully the useless transfer committee stumble upon a good manager again and he has a clean slate to work with.

Until there is a football person on the board that Vincent Tan trusts and lets get on with his job we won’t progress as a club. It’s always going to be one step forward two steps back.

Like who? I'm all for this but got to be available and got to want the job? Houghton as we know didnt want championship football! So not quite as easy as saying we want you when do you sign? And of course upto the owner who he wants

I guarantee you this Allan, if Harris is the manager for the whole of next season, Harris will take us in to the bottom 5.

Probably but there again who knows what the summer will bring? After all this is a NW team not NH one, most managers would struggle to make anything of this bunch? But will say dont understand his subs and for playing certain player like Patterson...

HARRIS STATED THIS WEEK HE HAS A BRILLIANT SQUAD

Harris on 5 occasions stated plenty of quality here.

Its January lets see what Harris brings in, 4 out so far

Let's be realistic, no manager is going to say my squad is not good enough. What would that do for player confidence and player relationships with the manager?
None of these players are his. In all honesty it is a pretty mediocre squad with not much in the way of quality and even less by the way of flair. Prior to Harris, this group had no idea how to pass out from the back or build play through midfield. They were players of a certain mould, brought in to do a certain job in a specific style. Most are limited in their skillset. I really don't think that Klopp, Pep or Mourinho could do much with this group in the amount of time that Harris has had.
To be fair to him he is trying hard to get us to play more and we are trying but all to easily they can revert to type. After a bad start we should have won today. Controlled the second half and played some good stuff.
He needs this and a couple of other windows to build his own team and should be given the chance to do it.
A high profile manager would just demand much more in the way of wages and much more by the way of a playing budget.
Lots of vitriol towards Harris today from many sources. I say to everyone, please get off his back and get behind him. It's one hell of a task he's been given.

Re: ' Harris out '

Sat Jan 18, 2020 7:28 pm

Its crazy how fans want him gone already, a manager is only good with whats in front of him and he is in a new environment with Cardiff than lets say when he was at Millwall. Its not Harris's fault that the board is giving him zero money to bring in new players. yes the football has been poor to watch but maybe we need to look at positives about the team than negatives. Harris is only doing what any manager would do with the players they have at Cardiff.

Maybe Harris should try out new formations to find out if he can utilise the best players in the team, and potentially start to play players like Paterson or even Bogle. I would switch up some things like play Bennett on the wing instead of Hoilett or Murphy because Joe is good going foreward and bad at defending. Then I would play Cunningham behind Bennett.

The focus should be on Tan for not being clear of what his ambitions are heading foreward. Away from Warnock because its clear that he is trying to do things on the cheap again.

Warnock jumped ship because he could sense the fans turning and knew what crap he had assembled in our squad and realised his time was up! So off he went.
Did great things for us but his time was up.
If anything all the fingers though should be pointing at him not Harris.
I was not keen with the Harris appointment but he deserves more time.
Sick of the Tan knockers too as without him would we still have a club to support?
We are where we are at the moment and the football is pretty crap at times.
Even Pep and Klopp would struggle with this lot!
Lets see where we are end of season and go from there as we will not be relegated. Maybe mid table, maybe play offs?
Pointless changing Harris now.

Perhaps I should have said no smart manager would say his squad isnt good enough, especially when he knows he's stuck with most of them for the the next 18 months or so. He has to make them believe that he believes in them otherwise he's fighting a losing battle from the start.
I still think Harris has done well so far with what he's inherited. You simply can't change a playing style overnight when most players are short on skill and pace and are programmed to play a certain way.

Our passing and possession as improved from NW days! today passing accuracy was better than theirs a d possession against Swansea was 50/50 that stat is impressive given what they pride themselves on possession wise, and I think over all possession as increased since hes been here....ok football crap most times but there are signs in games we are better going forward with ball at feet rather than the NW percentage game bang it in early? Also he is beginning to see players he's inherited are not as good as on paper and ges having trouble getting them to adjust to having more possession and playing different from NW, wouldn't be surprised to see more than a couple go in summer to give him scope to bring in different type of players that suits him not NW! 2 defeats in 14 is good it's the draws that stop us being in top 6 regardless of how we are playing need a mitrovic in box to convert chances like what we created today.

An experienced manager? This squad was recruited and put together by one of those, the squad he has left us with , Klopp would struggle to get anything more or different than what Harris is getting. Blame? Not Harris, it’s Warnock and this supposed Transfer committee. Not a Harris fan, but the most important changes that need to be made are in the player personnel, and that’s easier said than done, as this window is proving.

We can all moan and bicker til the cows come home, but whoever the manager is , isn’t going to be able to change anything radical or get more improvement than Warnock or Harris have, the rag has been rung dry, this squad is limited in how it can play.

Can't really argue with that ! :thumbright:

Arteta seems to be doing great with a terrible Arsenal squad who had the worst first half of the season since the 70s. He had the same shite defence, no additions to the squad and lost a couple of players to injury. He's doing relatively better than Harris and got them playing some really good football. I can see them sneaking into the top 4 after being in a similar league position to us.

Re: ' Harris out '

Sun Jan 19, 2020 8:00 am

So you think Arteta can get this squad playing really good football?! I don’t think that’s possible for anyone in charge, the players Arteta has at disposal at Arsenal many managers could get an improvement from, we don’t have those kind of players, our players were clearly recruited and assembled to play a rigid style of football. Tomlins shot that hit the post yesterday , if that goes in, this thread wouldn’t exist, I think looking at Ancelotti is a better comparison, no manager can take that Everton squad forward without making changes to the personnel. He has not really improved them, he has inherited a disjointed squad, difference is he has money to spend. that’s the key for us, changing this squad is much more vital than changing the manager and so far, this window , that doesn’t appear to be happening. Warnock and the transfer committee are to blame, not Harris, he’s not my choice, but he’s doing ok. he’s has inherited a predictable, slow, bloated mid table team, i can’t see what you can do with this group of players with tactics or formation to get them to produce the kind of football we want to see. I am sad to say , really good football isn’t what this squad is about, until there’s big changes to this squad , I fear their performances will continue to frustrate us enough to create divisive threads like this, whoever is in charge.

Is that the same Arteta who just drew with Sheffield Utd?

Give the man a chance he inherited players whose confidence was shot after the previous Messiah had them hoofing the ball as high as they could and it's going to take a few windows plus time to get football being played again.
Also don't forget that when we were playing the best football most of us have ever seen at Cardiff there were still people who wanted that manager out !!!
