After doing this post after the Preston game, I did further posts praising Zohore after the Sheffield Wednesday game as I was pleased he put a shift in. However, I was hoping just like the Villa game earlier this season, Zohore would have relished the challenge today and had a go.
Unfortunately, Zohore just wasn’t up for it today, he went back to his old, lazy ways and as already said, Paterson was screaming at Zohore to close down. I think Claudio Bravo made his way up to the holding midfield position in the second half passing the ball back and fore to the centre backs. It was totally embarrassing.
We gave Man City too much respect, we didn’t get in their faces, we didn’t close down, we didn’t compete, it was a practice match for Man City walking the ball out of defence building attack after attack with Zohore making no effort to pressure.
Warnock needs to have another word with Zohore and tell him he could be worth 20-30 million if he consistently performs and more importantly, consistently TRIES every game. As Ebbw95 says further up, you defend from the front and if you defend from the front, the rest of the team can squeeze up further and grow into the game.
Instead, because of Zohore’s pathetic effort today, Man City had all the time they needed to build from the back, knock the ball around and construct attack after attack, where their obvious class would prove superior.
