Thanks for that.

A quick calculation has it 18,634 Cardiff fans travelled away and 18,356 away fans visited CCS. We might be low in the away fans 'league' but the fact we are geographically more segregated and therefore have less local derby's has to be a factor and on this evidence our away following is holding up well.

It is certainly more of a factor than Vincent Tan and his now dead rebrand.

As you know Wez, Away supporters for 40 yrs have hardly come to Cardiff and only in recent yrs have they started to come here.

The point is we have the 3rd worst Away support in the Championship for the 2nd yr running and you can dress it up like you want our fans don't go away like they use and you know that's 100% true.

We have lost our away support badly and that's what you should be concerned about.

We are like a non league/ div 4 Away support very sad and it needs addressing.

Carlisle,Lincoln, Plymouth to Bristol Rovers etc have now bigger Away support answer that one?

The whole of the UK see we are the 3rd worst, make as much u All dress it up. It's sadly true.

QUESTION.
next season we will probably have 9 games 150 miles or less and these closer games are th ones that BOOST clubs averages.
so how do we get our average up to Villas 3400 when brentford ,qpr, bristol ,villa and swansea will defo not give us anything like that amount. the others might but the police will probably stop them.
constantly blaming our fans when the problem is not quite that simple and is historic serves no purpose.
this campaign should be aimed at SWP who for years have been over zealous in moving games.dishing out bans {the highest percentage arrests that turn into to bans in uk } reducing allocations and discouraging travel in general
fact is we would never be allowed to travel in such numbers wekk in week out.you know this.
Millwall at WHL. full allocation.no RV point, no official travel,no bubble.???????????????

We had 8 Away games this season with in 150 miles.

A simple answer, we don't need the extra allocations.

We could not sell out for Bristol City, Reading, Brum, Burton, Wolves,QPR, Fulham away and Villa never gave us the full Away allocation.

Please stop trying to dress it up all different ways.

I am prob more gutted than most that our away support is so bad, I spk to Away fans daily and I strongly argue our reasons .

there are always obstacles mate, no matter how often you put NO RESTRICTIONS up on here the truth is there are restrictions.. mid day at Ashton gate IS restrictive, RV points are restrictive.shoved in a pub is restrictive.
our fans who i love being one of are getting slaughtered on a daily basis when a big chunk of the blame is SWP which you totally refuse to aknowledge.
the Millwall cup game is one of about a hundred examples of games with history that i can name where restrictions if any are far less than we have to live with.

For the 2016/17 season, Plymouth to Carlisle is the longest away trip in English football (389 miles), so it is no surprise to see these two clubs at the top of the distance table. The shortest distance in the division is Mansfield’s 15 mile trip to Notts County.

Yet Plymouth, Carlisle, Pompey,Grimsby, Hartlepool all take big away support and have long distances to travel so it shows other clubs fans away travel in big numbers over long distances and so did we years ago :thumbright:

I answer everyone questions, I think you will find including yourself, not many answer mine.

In the last 5 years we have had virtually NO restrictions and pay on the gate at 99% of our away games a fact :thumbright: :thumbright:

Yes for years we were treated unfairly compared to other clubs, but thankfully its ALL stopped :thumbright: :bluebird:

If we had the numbers willing, many clubs from Newcastle,Sheff Wed,Bristol City,Derby,Forest etc would give us large away allocations :thumbright: :thumbright:

As to Bristol City away, most derby games get kick offs changed a fact, but still all sell out :thumbright: :thumbright:
I drove straight in, NO RV 2nd yr running, only one who did it was Vince Alm :thumbright:

Please tell me how many clubs this season and last season put RV's on us,Restrictions and never let us pay on the gate as I know everyone of them, I can count on one hand :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I don't go away anymore or very rarely, been to nearly every championship ground and part of the enjoyment is visiting new grounds.

The biggest part though is the money, back a few years ago, in the lower leagues you could get a ticket for about £10 - £12 and the RAMS buses were what a tenner? so that's about £22 in total + some drink and food, you would be lucky to get a ticket for that now and the price of travel has rocketed. Now you could easily be looking at spending £80 on a day out and personally I just don't think its value for money.

Re: REALLY SAD TO SEE/CARDIFF FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW

Annis, our away support has dropped and is at times piss poor but the point that people are making is that the table does not tell the entire story as it does not take into account all contributory factors, surely you can aknowledge that mate

Re: REALLY SAD TO SEE/CARDIFF FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW

Wed Apr 12, 2017 1:07 pm

For my own thoughts on this i believe both home and away support has been affected by many factors already noted in this thread. For me the buzz, atmosphere, is no longer what it was. The treatment we have had for years and talen its toll on many if us older heads. Cant have a beer on a bus unless you drink fast before the bus is checked before you get there. Like it or not but our away support was once made up alot of older lads and we were the big fish in the pond in divisions 3 and 4.

Modern football is boring. At home our singing section is too far to interact with banter and away fans. Fact needs addressing still.

The rebrand did affect me but our away travels have changed since chelsea 2010. Long before rebrand.

The faces away are mostly different. Although mynonly away games this season have been bristol rovers, bristol city and aston villa....you will see the trend and small distances!

Im 37 and will always support the city but hate to say the passion i once had is no longer the same. Im grown up with a family and have to justify cost on choices too.

Seprate subject but we should follow Huddersfield home prices for season tickets and maybe stoke where i believe all coach travel.is funded so only ticket costs are needed! Some ideas that work

there are always obstacles mate, no matter how often you put NO RESTRICTIONS up on here the truth is there are restrictions.. mid day at Ashton gate IS restrictive, RV points are restrictive.shoved in a pub is restrictive.
our fans who i love being one of are getting slaughtered on a daily basis when a big chunk of the blame is SWP which you totally refuse to aknowledge.
the Millwall cup game is one of about a hundred examples of games with history that i can name where restrictions if any are far less than we have to live with.

Now go back through my posts and start answering my questions for a change :thumbright: :D :D

well wolves last saturday away game was not pay on gate.
but i agree things have got better. that doesnt overnight change our treatment over many many years or how fans doubt whats being promised{ regarding no restrictions } because its been said in past then changed at 11th hour.
and you havent answered how we get up to 3400 when at least half our closer games wouldnt entertain that many coming. 2k at the liberty would then mean taking 4800 to somewhere like Leeds to get the average back up.could you seriosly see that being allowed because it was prevented last year with much smaller figures involved.

IPSWICH 229/700

So we are 3rd worst away supported club! Do other fans care about that! Do city fans care if ncastle have the biggest? Just shows we have poor away support but comparing clubs is ridiculous as all clubs are unique in their support!

This is a very valid point! I go to every home game, but rarely away anymore and for me it's mainly to do with finance. At the end of the day South Wales is one of the least affluent areas in the U.K., plus a lot of our fan base who are also big Wales fans blew a lot of money going to France last summer, I know people who are still paying the France experience off.

For majority of fans cost is a major factor in their decision! But apparently it's not an excuse not to go on here? Every clubs fans are unique and cannot compare them with others eg ncastles is different from burtons ect ect ! That's the way it is in football. :old:

I can see what Annis is getting at, but to be able to still take 1500+ away after the last few years is surely commendable?
Having an owner rip the guts out of us and tell us we'll be replaced by new fans is not good customer service is it?
On our day we can still muster a decent following as the stats demonstrate.
What we have lost is the ability to get 1000 away to nothing games at Barnsley etc. Lots of people can't be arsed.
Personally, apart from a few embarrassing attendances, I think we are on a par with most clubs at this level.

I've only listed the games where we have had both home and away fixtures. In all honesty its not too bad on this evidence.

So we take alot more away than when they come to us ? Come on annis put a negative spin on this one hmmmmmm

I am prob more gutted than most that our away support is so bad, I spk to Away fans daily and I strongly argue our reasons .

please stop ignoring very valid factual truths.
if you think our fans are teated fair and even i suggest you do some research because we are not and havent been for more than a decade.
and answer the question.could we get up to Villas 3400 even if we had numbers willing.
none of my previous post was made up,second hand, dressed up.

Good post i must say, and of course to get a ticket for an away game you have to be a season ticket holder or away member, other clubs don't!

Can argue black and blue as to reasons for fans not going but guess it's because fans are not interested in going? Wolves good example 1300 for a non discript game so why such a good turnout? If you locate city in Midlands/yorks would we be 3rd bottom of league? No we wouldn't unless of course people believe more fans won't travel 50/60 miles or less to a game ?

We also need to grasp a bit of reality. I've been going for decades and was there at Chelsea, Spurs, Scunthorpe, Arsenal, Liverpool etc as most on here. BUT i've also been to Chesterfield with 100 fans, Sheff Utd with 78 others, Wigan with 120 and Hartlepool with 100 others. Our fans have always been the same....buzzing for big games that stir the soul where 6000 isnt enough to can't be bothered for Boro away where there is zero interest.
Unless we get regular Premier football it will never change. We've seen it all and done it all.

same here mate , i can add a few big ones to your list but really not that many.
what i will say is we travelled to clubs that never came here.{not that different now} did those clubs fans travel elsewhere just giving us a wide berth ?.i dont know, figures were less readily available pre internet.

Another factor is that coming to the CCS is guaranteed to be a safe day out (unless they are arsing about in Canton). Most fans were terrified of Ninian Park and in the 80's and 90's it was probably justified.
We always travelled though and never got deterred by a club's reputation whoever it was.....which probably enhanced the reputation.
Even though our away end is rarely sold out, clubs are bringing more than they used to.
When I started going away at 17, our away following was, from memory, usually pissed up 30-40 year old blokes with hardly any women or kids. Its way different these days.

We have been on a significant down slide since the premier league.

The club started its rise with Sam where the away support really took off.

Let's not forget there were plenty of games in the 80,s when there were less than a few hundred travelling and even only 1 bus for most games during Durban's reign.

I know cos i was there :bluescarf:
