Warnock will also get rid of O'Keefe I believe, though I think it would be a mistake, as he has much more to offer than Halford.
I agree about Halford and O'Keefe (although Halford can cover a number of positions) but maybe Halford is one who won't be here in the summer either?
As for Bruno and Whitts it is unlikely they will take reduced terms and as offering them the same terms is a non-starter the likelihood is they will be moving on.
I wouldn't be so sure that they wouldn't take reduced terms. Warnock better understands their worth to us which is unlikely to differ significantly to their worth to others particularly in this country. Their agents may have a different opinion but they would. Whitts current deal will be reflective of our promotion to the premiership - nobodies giving that to Whitts now.
He' likely to ply is trade with the also rans in this division and I don't see many of them offering big. I still think at the right deal he something to offer and I trust in Warnock to have got that deal right.
Much the same can be said of Manga, theres a deal to be had but if he wont take Iit then so be it.
There's not much he can do with Lambert short of someone taking him on loan with us paying 90% plus of his wages. Being a recent England international he just may just get a little Middle East or Far East interest. Unfortunately I still think we end up paying off even if he ended up down that route.
I'm slightly worried we're going to throw out the baby with the bath water. I'm not convinced Huws, Saadi, Kennedy and Ajayi have nothing to offer us going forward.
If we give Warnock the touted 6 million and the same wage budget as this year then I'm pretty sure he'd have very good go at promotion. Just as importantly I'm more confident that if we didn't get there we wouldn't be strapped with on going disastrous legacy deals which have killed us in the last couple of years.
Lambert is on a one year contract and must play a certain number of games to trigger a second year. It seems highly unlikely he will reach that figure and the club also have the option not to pick him any way. So it is very likely he will be leaving in the summer.
As for Whitts and Manga we will have to wait and see but if they stay but if they do it will be on greatly reduced terms.
How do you know so much about Lamberts contract?
I hope you're correct but as Epping blue has said, it's widely reported on here that's he signed a two year deal.
I just remember from the time when we signed him and concerns were raised over his fitness record. Apparently he signed a 2 year contract but the 2nd year was dependent on playing enough games this season. As he is 34 with a questionable injury record it would have been prudent to include such a clause. If one wasn't then that would be one huge mistake.
you have to look at this from both sides. not just Cardiff City.
Lambert had signed the previous year from Liverpool for 3mill and had a wage to match obviously.
so with 1 year of a lucrative contract left to run at WBA. why on earth would he sign for us on a 1 year contract for any less?
plus we paid a fee. its undisclosed but has been quoted as everything from nominal to 1.7 million.
No we needed to look at this from one side - Cardiff and what he was worth to us. What he was making prior to that is irrelevant. If Wez is right he got 70% of his contract off West Brom in addition to £ 25 grand a week off us then his agent did a really good job for him.
We're only concerned with the 25k and the terms of his contract here. If it was 2 years plus 1 for making a paltry 20 appearances in either season then we were shafted. It looks with hindsight like a bad signing. It was a bad deal before the ink was dry on the paper.
If it was a year contract plus 1 conditional then it's not such a disaster, at least Warnock will have an extra £ 25k a week to play with next year.

how can it be irrelevent. bit pointless asking players to sign for less than they are already earning.or less than other clubs offer.

Looking back at newspaper reports from when Lambert signed it says the 'deal' cost the club £2m in total. If RL is earning £35kpw that adds up to £1.8m for a 12 month contract with possibly a £200k transfer fee?
Either way if the deal cost £2m in total it is hard to see how this stretches to a 2 year contract along with a transfer fee.

what we do know is he had a year left at WBA on 40k plus.
Pullis was reluctent to leave Lambert leave until a replacement had been signed.
and various sources including both clubs refer to an undisclosed fee.

Not at all. You offer what you think they're worth and what you can afford. If they don't except it then you walk away. They can then go to the next club in the queue. I don't know much but I reckon in Lamberts case it was a very short queue.

We're paying 25k or is it 35k or 2 mill over one or 2 years - lets go with 25 k a week
Not bad little earner but best of all he only needs to play 19 games.
One little query. Did he pay for the MacDonalds having just trousered £ 2 million, or did we pay it or did we go dutch.
